The worst I have had the displeasure to experience: they broke my bed and left the legs off my tv so it was unwatchable until I sent a photo. My bed sits on 6 drawers. Now one doesn't close and is dangerous: causing me to trip three times in 2 weeks. I also opted to pay in cash thereby gaining 2% and I still don't know If the discount was taken into account. The first day, I was asked what I needed to have left out so as to feel ok during the night before we left for my "new home". Of course they forgot about what I wished for. I've used Flat Price for 4 of my moves and have refereed them many times, and am getting ready to hire them for a cross country move. I would never use another company, as Avi and his team are the most respectful, courteous and and careful group of professionals you'll ever find in the moving industry. I have many rare antiques and a large art collection. They have such an appreciation and understanding of how to effectively pack, handle and unpack such pieces. I had the WORST experience with this company. DO NOT USE THEM! Everything started out fine, until one of the movers told me to tip (I was planning to anyway but thought it was strange that he was bringing this up before they had even loaded up my furniture). Then, after I stated that I might use my credit card, I was told that I should tip with cash.....um WHY am I being told how to tip?! Although this should have been the first red flag, I tried to forget about it. They then told me that they had no idea how to get to my apartment and that I should drive with them in the truck. He even offered to stop by the bank so I could withdraw cash. How caring! I made this reservation a month ago so there was certainly enough time to glance at a map. The HOUR long ride from east village to soho was uncomfortable to say the least. One of the movers was snoring in the back and I was being blamed for soho traffic....last time I checked it is ALWAYS crowded on Broadway on a Saturday. I even let them use my blackberry to find directions and every time it rang he acted all annoyed even though it is MY phone. Instead of watching my things be taken to my new apartment, a friend and I walked to the ATM because I felt so pressured by the movers to tip in cash. It was then that I realized I did not have my wallet. By the time I came back to the apartment, I explained to the movers the situation and also that I think they are missing a box. Later that night I realize that the box they "forgot to deliver?" was the largest one I had. Inside the box were all my shoes, bags, and most important of all my passport. I had no money and no identification. I decided to call the mover's cell phone number, which is the only contact I had. He was completely unprofessional and rude to me on the phone. He yelled at me and called me names like I was back in the third grade. That Monday I spoke with several people from the company and demanded a manager call me. This man was very professional and sympathetic but he refused to even give me a discount for the horrible experience I had. I basically paid to be insulted, feel uncomfortable, blamed for traffic, AND have the only possessions I need to exist in the world misplaced. Moving from L.A. to N.Y. seems a bit daunting to me. I was referred to "Flat Price Movers" by a friend and found their rate to be pretty reasonable. I received a phone call from them within a day, the rep was great and walked me through the whole process...which makes everything so much easier (sigh with relief!) The day of the moving, the movers came on time, showed up ready to help me with taping all the loose boxes and they wrapped up my mattress with large plastic roll... all nice and neat. They're a "pro" at wrapping all kinds of stuff to be moved. I didn't know what to expect but the movers had everything under control (which made me feel so much better) They were very courteous, friendly, fast and I felt confident about how things were going to be handled. And as expected, when I got to N.Y....a different crew delivered everything as packed. Flat Price Relocation was phenomenal. My partner was out of town, leaving me to take care of our toddler and the move. They packed up our home efficiently and helped unpack our new home; they were quick, but extremely careful. We have a number of large artworks and small breakable antiques, they wrapped everything and it arrived in perfect condition. Once in our new home, they placed everything in its proper room and unpacked our major boxes and put the furniture together, removing the extra packing materials with them to make my completion of the move seamless. It made our move quick and easy. We had also complicated our move by needing to clean out a storage unit with some heavy heirloom furniture. When the elevator broke during our move, they said "no problem, relax, we're moving you today" and carried everything down a flight of stairs and through a narrow passageway. What could have turned into a disaster was easily dealt with as they put my mind at ease. Everything was done professionally, respectfully, and with a positive attitude. I was truly impressed by Avi and his team. I have moved many times in my life, and have never had such a positive experience. I moved from Midtown to the UWS last week with a fairly large haul for a family of four. I had made the error of thinking it was all going to be done in a day (packing, travel and unload) when I expressed my surprise and anxiety that I could not take a second day off work-Mario and Avi jumped into action and with incredible grace and speed-finished the job by 7 pm. You could say I relocate a lot, and in the last 7 years I've moved 5 times. I used Flat Price Movers for the last 2 moves and it was totally smooth and painless. I will definitely use them again... I was extremely satisfied with their service. On both moves they arrived on time, the price was reasonable compared to other estimates I received. Best of all, they gave a flat price and that did not change later. I've had some bad experiences with moving companies in the past, but this company did not disappoint. On the last move I didn't even finish packing the bedroom, and the movers helped me pack what's left, and they didn't even charge me for the items that I didn't finish packing! The poor guys were working so hard and suddenly one of the mover's pants got ripped from the knee all the way up to his crotch, but he just tapped it together with moving tape and kept on working! It was so hysterical seeing him in his home-made pants, but he didn't miss a beat, he just kept right on going. I went with this company, based on some other reviews but I guess I should have read these here because if I had a similar experience. First off, they did come out and look at my stuff to help determine the cost which I thought would make it more realistic. Instead, they were more expensive than several other movers. I ended up going with them because they could accommodate my moving schedule. I did tell the salesman that I was moving into a building that required a COI and sent him all the information. He told me 2 days before the move that it was all taken care of and all was set. I followed up with the building and that they hadn't received anything. I spent several hours on the phone with different people at Flatrate trying to get it worked out and in the end, I had them send me the COI and I forwarded it over the building. The day of the move, the supervisor met with me and rushed through the apartment so that he would know what to move. He would ask a question and as I'm in the process of answering, just move on, rudely cutting me off with another question. I had some last minute questions for him and he was curt with his answers and I felt as if I was in his way. Very unfriendly about any questions or issues on how things were being packed. I also marked several boxes as fragile and they completely ignored the labels and handled them as if it were any other box. At the new building as they were finishing up, I went to go take care of something in the building and when I came back, the supervisor tells me that he is done and wants his tip. I was planning on tipping them but based on their performance and their rudeness was something that I considered and then having them demand a tip, pushed me over so I gave them what I had, $60. He said that it is supposed to be at least 15% of the total! That came out to over $200 for a tip!! I told him that I didn't have that kind of money and he could take the $60. He said keep it since it stormed out, slamming the door. To add insult to injury, then he left the remaining boxes and trash outside my apartment!! If the quote is supposed to be "flatrate" that you are not going to spend more than the quote, why not put the tip in the quote so that you know exactly what you are spending. I don't mind tipping but it should be a choice, not demanded and the tip should be what I think is appropriate and not what the movers think they should get. With the kind of service that I received, I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone!! read more

My friend recommended Flat price, and they moved me from NY to NJ. They gave me a flat price quote, and the price stayed the same and it didn't change - I've had experience with other companies were they asked for more $ than they quoted you. We have two kids and own a lot of stuff to pack, so we ended up getting the full service packing, and the movers packed everything nicely and organized. The crew was arrived on time, and they were professional and polite. They padded all of our furniture and everything get safe to the other address. We had a large move from Manhattan to Brooklyn, which involved a LOT of wine bottles, some antiques, and a whole lot of stuff. Avi came by and provided the estimate, after which Dwayne managed the move. Definitely not the least expensive, but there were no surprise add ons (unlike what friends have experienced with Flat"Rate" movers) and everything was managed quickly, efficiently and with no breakage. I was referred to this company by a friend; unfortunately, I can't recommend them to anyone else based on my experience. Maybe they're actually good at the moving part. I wouldn't know because I never made it that far. I called them a few weeks in advance of my move, asking for a quote, and they set up a time with me to come and see my apartment so that they could give an accurate price. Unfortunately, that first appointment was canceled due to the weather, and they set up a time to come and see me on a Friday (exactly one week before my move date). The guy who came was very nice and friendly, but after looking everything over he didn't give me a quote on the spot but said he'd be in touch. I waited all weekend and didn't hear from them until Monday, at the beginning of the week we were scheduled to move. In a simple, curt phone call he told me, sorry, actually they were all booked up the day of my move and I should make other plans. No explanation or apology. It was surprisingly unprofessional --- I would think that they were well aware of their schedule on the Friday that he'd come out to see me and if not, they're running a seriously flawed operation over there. They could have just told me they were booked in the first place rather than wasting my time and leaving me to scramble. So, I wouldn't recommend them. read more

I called Flat Price only 2 days before I made a last minute move and they were so accommodating! Reserving a time to move as well as a price quote was quick and simple. I ended up having several more boxes than expected and the movers were unexpectedly told that they had to carry everything down a long, narrow flight of stairs in order to reach the freight elevator - and they could not have been more easy-going about it! I wish I could say I was happy with this company but it was the worst experience I have had in a while. When I spoke with Jessica at first, the quote was great. When they got to my home I was asked to pay an extra $600 above the quoted price as well as to tip each of the 4 movers who came along to help! I was dumbfounded. On top of this several of my boxes were damaged (plastic bins were cracked) and they lost a box with items worth well over $300. And to make up for it, they are going to send me a check for $.60 per lb. This was a terrible experience and all I can say is that when I was getting quotes one of the movers said this to me and now I wish I had listened. He said, "Ma'am, don't ever go with the cheapest quote you get. You'll end up paying more in the long run." read more
