Pastel de nata was a disappointment. I guess since it's been sitting there it was just cold and soggy. But the interior and the nice customer service made up for it. The coffee was good as well.

Ironically enough, we came here right before we left for Paris. I ordered the ham and cheese on a panini which was tasty and crisp. My husband got the salmon on a baguette which he enjoyed. The man who helped us spoke both English and French and was very pleasant! We also got an almond croissant and chocolate hazelnut pastry to go just to try it... we came back the next day after breakfast around the corner to buy more! The almond croissant was absolutely delicious - I'll be trying to replicate it at home in the states!

We headed here after the Kensington palace closed at 4pm (winter timings) Unfortunately Montparnasse's hot kitchen also closes at the same time. We had to settle for coffee and a reheated sausage roll which was quite good & made us wish even harder that we had found the kitchen open. They serve a range of crepes and salads and sandwiches. But once the kitchen closes, for an hour you can get hot coffee and pastries or sandwiches that are on the shelves. The place is very cosy and I loved the seating style. I'd love to return for a hot meal.

Meal: Breakfast, dine in All Ratings out of 10: Quality of food: 9 Food to Spend Value: 8 Quality of Service: 9 Overall Rating: 9 I love a good French bakery, but I tend to find they are quite hit and miss back home in Seattle. I figured I could find one in London, and Montparnasse more than fit the bill. We arrived a few minutes before they opened and were greeted to fresh pastries upon entering. There were a number of different ones to choose from, but an almond croissant is a great litmus test for me, so I decided to order both it and a fruit tart. They offered fresh squeezed orange juice as well, so I opted for a glass. The almond croissant was fabulous, with light flaky crispy layers and a wonderful filling. It was still warm from the oven and was easily the best almond croissant I have ever had. The fruit tart, likewise, was delicious, with a very nice crust, rich tasty cream, and topped with a raspberry and powdered sugar. The fresh squeezed orange juice was a perfect complement and also tasted wonderful. Needless to say it was a fabulous breakfast. The ambiance in the café had a very Parisian feel, and you could almost be convinced that you were in Paris rather than London. The service was great and quite warm, making me feel almost as if I was at home. The prices seemed quite appropriate, and the quality was second to none. If you are looking for a fantastic French bakery in London, you need to pay Montparnasse Café a visit.

J'adore! A bunch of attractive French guys run this place. Honestly, 5-stars. Ok, ok, ok...they are more than a pretty face. I'll elaborate. Tucked away on Thackeray Street (away from the hustle of High Street Kensington), Montparnasse Cafe couldn't have been more dazzling today. *A coffee (flat white) enjoyed on their curbside cafe tables in the sunshine was just about bliss. *A luscious mozzarella and tomato/basil/olive salad arrived to my table no less than 3 minutes after ordering. Fresh as a flower, tasty as a treat. For less than 6 quid!? Surely I could not be in West London with these prices! But indeed, it is. *I scooped up 3 tarts for my colleagues so they could share in my Paris-inspired morning joy: lemon, almond, strawberry. There were no crumbs remaining. They do what they do so incredibly well. Fresh, flavorful cafe food (sandwiches, panini, pastry) made from scratch. Great coffee. The only thing un-Parisian is the service...and I mean that as a compliment, of course! If you'd like to step back in time a bit and lose yourself in a bit of Paris, this is your spot. It's not full of Macbooks or power outlets or wifi, but it is full of locals enjoying some conversation, a coffee or a sweet. What a breath of fresh air.

Moments later a gentleman came out and said he made space for us. We were thankful for the gesture so we canceled our Uber immediately. Thankfully we did because the service, food and atmosphere was great! Service is fast, but not rushing. The folks working seemed to be working together and helping each other out. The same gentlemen who came outside to offer us a table was one of the best employees I have seen. He was courteous and friendly. I could see and hear him going out of his way talking to customers and making sure everything was okay. Four our meal, our party of four ordered two steak sandwiches plates, a scrambled egged plate and a chicken salad. Each plate was delicious. My salad was so filling yet light. My husbands steak was so juicy and tender. Our course I tried my nieces egg plate too and the first I noticed was how perfectly the scrambled eggs were cooked. We finished off with some "breakfast dessert." I'll say, they are a meal in itself but very very good. Juices and coffee were good too. There is good food in London but the top notch service here is what gives it a five star!

The dinner menu doesn't have much options and it's all very common British food. We got the burger which is surprisingly expensive. Everything taste great but the beef patty is a bit lacking flavor. We also got the fish with barley risotto. The risotto is quite hard and you can literally taste every piece of barley. But my preference in risotto is rather creamy so this is not for me. The fish is nicely seared tho and they give quite a big piece. The wait staff was really nice and attentive. There's not a lot of customers on a Thursday night so I don't reckon the service would be that bad. And the food come pretty quickly.

QUESTION: Where can you go to get a five-star hotel's afternoon champagne tea for £20?…read more ANSWER: The Wyndham Grand at Chelsea Harbour. It's as simple as that, folks. Because of the Wyndham Grand's out-of-the-way Imperial Wharf location, you, too, could enjoy the epic spread of afternoon tea (with posh finger sandwiches, two homemade warm raisin scones with clotted cream and jam and a spread of individually sized sweet pastries and other treats - too much food for a single person to reasonably consume, I assure you) along with a glass of bubbly at a leisurely pace whilst taking in the view of the harbour and its (billionaires') boats. I'm not entirely sure why the afternoon tea is so cheap, but it is. Tea without champagne is a measly 15 quid. I booked a place for tea online and arrived to a quiet lounge area at 3:00pm, with Sunday brunch winding down in the adjacent restaurant. The table was set, and the polished and besuited server greeted me graciously. The low-seated couches and armchairs were large and cosy, and my companions and I sipped, munched, supped and gluttonously indulged for THREE HOURS. Service wasn't without its faults: the server was a bit nervous for whatever reason, but she was certainly friendly and gracious; my first pot of tea was loose leaf, as one would expect of afternoon tea at a five-star hotel, but my second pot had a teabag chucked in (although said tea in teabag was aromatic and delicious); water and/or tea refills weren't forthcoming, but the server would have fetched these things if asked. Despite these lapses in service (nit-picky though they are), overall, the experience and value for money were outstanding. SUMMARY: Go here if you're a local, you want an indulgent yet inexpensive afternoon tea, you don't want to combat crowds of tourists who may or may not think that the clotted cream belongs in their teacups.* _______________________________________________________ *Although I do know that by posting this review the afternoon tea at the Wyndham Grand may very well become more busy than it was on my first visit, I remain confident that it will maintain its atmosphere of exclusivity due to its less-accessible location.
