This was a must on our itinerary for our final day in Montreal. We did take a uber there but proudly walked back. This museum was massive with 5 floors of all different mediums of Art. It was an easy map to follow to show me what I must! See and others that I call a fast pass, no lingering allowed :) I didn't read about it in advance so was surprised to see some of my favorites included. I got to see a Rembrandt who I love but got tired of after teaching it to middle schoolers for 5 years. There was a lot of modern and abstract pieces that were magnificent you will see in the pictures. Sometimes museums can be confusing in the layout but this one was perfectly arranged in such a way that I loved that after 3 hours the bottoms of my feet hurt and then we made the journey back to our hotel. We had a wonderful time and had to go around twice to our favorite exhibits! I forget the exact price for entry but I was reasonable.

We had hoped to take the English speaking guided tour at noon, but the guide called in sick so we were out of luck. However, the museum is set up nicely for self guided tours. There were little audio stations set up around the museum detailing the original construction of the home in 1704 for Claude de Ramezay, the governor of Montreal, as well as the many transformations the home has undergone throughout the years. It was a nice way to spend an hour.

Benjamin Franklin met here with local leadership to try to convince them to join his revolution. This museum has the first automobile licensed in Quebec on exhibition, and many artifacts of the First Nations people, New France era, right up to the 1900s. You can take a photo of yourself in period costume. There are English and French guided tours every weekend, and every day in the summer. The Governor's Garden is a real delight from May to October. Everything is so fun to look at and read and learn, the views at the top are also very nice with comfortable couches to just sit relax and enjoy. I loved reading about the history of the building as well as walking through the small garden area. What's also nice about this place is that there isn't many people so you can enjoy at a leisure pace and peacefully. This is an instant add to my list of recommendations for people visiting the city.

The site I was directed to (in Montreal's underground mall) is a tiny sample of their usual offering, so small in fact, that paying anything to enter struck me as an utter money grab. (My entry fee was waived as I had the Passport MTL). Even with essentially free admission for me, what was on view here was less than compelling and I had to work hard to engage my interest. My recommendation is to wait until they're back in their permanent home. Finding this place wasn't worth the time it took but, of course, I thought I was headed to the real deal, not a temporary exhibit.

Navigating this museum may be challenging for folks with mobility issues or vertigo. Many areas are dark, including stairs (elevators are plentiful). But some rooms are built on top of some of the original structures, covered with plate glass floors. Looking down at these and walking might be a struggle for some. And because the museum is in Old Montreal, there are plenty of places you can go in the immediate vicinity before and after your visit!
