Parents are sat out side the thatched roofed cafe with pots of teas, while children gleefully hop over the stream absently-mindedly letting ice cream cones drip their contents over their bare arms. We just about make the curfew for the Golden Putter crazy golf, which is the purpose of this post-shopping visit. There are a full state-of-the-art 18 holes to play, each one getting progressively harder. My memory of crazy golf is of playing on cracked concrete surfaces, but here your ball will glide over all-weather baize, that gives a realistic green putting experience. There are obstacles, slopes, a version of bunkers to tackle and walls to bounce your ball off, and the experience is kind of like a cross between putting and pool. It's very, very, fun, and at around £3.50 a person you'll get a full hour of casual competitiveness for the price of a pint. If you want a more rough and ready retro crazy golf experience there is an older more ramshackle course as you enter the park, (clubs hired from the cafe.) Ace.

There is also a swimming pool, which is nothing special but is nice to have available in the area as the other nearest pool is in the town centre. Because of this, there are a lot of schools that book the public pool during school hours for lessons etc, so it can be quite difficult to get chance to go for a swim during these times. Definately worth planning ahead. The gym in the complex is only a few years old and contains some of the most up-to-date gym equipment in the town. There are also indoor tennis courts, basketball courts and football pitches available for private bookings. All-in-all a very good, well thought out complex that provides a great deal of entertainment and activities for most people.

You are provided with skis, boot and poles with the price of the session. You can hire trousers and jackets, we wore our own waterproof ones. It is important that you take your own gloves as they DO NOT hire them and they are expensive to buy. Believe me you will need them as it is very cold inside the dome. We really enjoyed ourselves and since we have been have booka weeks ski in March.

Enormously fun day out Snowboarding…read more We were here for the snowboarding 8 hour lesson and it was a blast from beginning to end. Upon arriving, we were given locker tokens and told to get ready, then collect our gear. Note whilst they do gear hire, you're probably better off getting your own ski trousers/jacket/gloves as the hire ones looked a little worse for wear. Plus it took a while to find a helmet without an offensive odour! After getting our board, helmet and shoes, we were taken onto a beginners slope. At first, we had the entire slope to ourselves, however throughout the day, more classes started, and it started to get really busy. Seriously the morning sessions are the best time to learn, as by 3pm the slopes get really crowded and if you're still picking things up by then, it can probably lead to a higher incident of accidents, but whilst there I didn't notice a really serious accident. Pretty much follow the advice of the teachers and staff and you'll be fine. The course starts off pretty slowly, learning how to glide gently down the slope on one edge of your board, to linkings turns. Then that's it. There isn't really much to the beginners, course, but whilst the pickup was fast, the mastery took a bit more time. Turns is all well and good, but I found the most difficult things, controlling speed and descent to be a little more harder. In all however, I learnt a lot and probably saved a day or two on the actual slopes next year. Whilst I wouldn't say the day is the most organised, e.g. lunch was mentioned when booking but not provided on the day, as were photos which we really poor quality, by somebody that didn't really know how to handle a camera, it was still a good day out. If they could fix the actual running of the place then it would be 5 stars.

The centre boasts a multi-use sports hall, swimming pool, gym, cafe and climbing wall. The front desk staff have always been extremely friendly and helpful with any queries or bookings and the teaching staff in the gym and for the classes are very accommodating. The gym itself is well appointed and never gets so busy that you can't find a machine. The only gripe would be is that often the car park is too full.

Splash is my local pool and I try to go swimming there once a week. It has a normal size pool with…read morea lane area which is sectioned off for serious swimmers that want to keep swimming lengths. There is also a childrens pool and a paddling area which is attached to the main pool, but sectioned off too. There is an area of bubbles that you can sit in situated in the paddling area ( not a jacuzzi though)and a waterfall effect which is switched on periodically. Separate to the pools is a flume, but I haven't seen that in use for a long time so not sure if that is used anymore. The changing rooms are clean and the locker system is modern. You don't need any change for the lockers,as you pay for it at reception with your swimming fee. You are then given a wrist band which opens the lockers, although I'm not sure what is to stop someone opening someone else's locker as they are not numbered, unless they are programmed so that you can only open one locker with each band. The water is usually quite warm which is always good as I hate getting into a freezing pool. There are swimming clubs and aqua aerobics on at certain times too. The swimming pool has it's own free car park too.
