This church is very welcoming. As with all churches, you'll be blessed by "hearing" God if you're really "listening" for Him (rather than your cell phone during worship time). The pastor, for over 55 years, has extensive knowledge and training in Greek studies, Bible doctrine, Bible history world travels, and Church life. The worship leader has excellent musical experience and teaching skill. The church is also very active with classes/programs/ministry for all ages. If you walk away from here dissatisfied or empty, ask God to help your heart to really "see." People are imperfect; but those that want the Lord will find Him among His people (the Church). read more

Just putting this out there since the other reviewer seems to know nothing about the Pastor or the church. I have known the Pastor for 49 years and grew up in his church. He is extremely well educated and there is a Bible Study on Wednesday nights, where each verse of the Book being studied is broken down. It is wonderful to have someone like Bro. Mike McMahon, who has the background education to explain the meaning of words, in the KJV, that had different meanings in the ancient times. We all know the KJV can be difficult to understand at times and we are blessed to have such a wonderful teacher. The different activities offered, for all age groups, are top notch. There are mission trips, summer camps, weekend retreats, and a great music program. If you want the best VBS in the Houston area, for your kids during Summer...look no further than Monument Baptist. My grandkids come from Austin every year for the over-the-top VBS (with hundreds of kids attending). As with any church, if you want to "get something out of it," don't just show up on Sunday morning but get involved in every aspect. Then and only then, can one truly understand what their church home is all about and what it has to offer. read more

I also grew up in the church with several pastors before Mike McMahon came. In his early days he would ask the associate pastor to preach while he patrolled the back of the church, looking for youth who might be talking or writing notes. Doesn't seem like a good use of leadership or his time. I was recently told he had mentioned my brother in one of his sermons. My family and I were very active in this church, and my brother and I in youth activities. My brother went on to become a pastor with a doctorate in theology and lead some of the largest megachurches in the South before God called him home from pancreatic cancer at the age of 57. While I appreciate Mike's efforts to recognize Keith's commitment to the ministry and his desire to "suffer well" while battling stage 4 cancer, he just HAD to add that he never was "impressed" with Keith. Wow Mike. Did that little caveat make you feel bigger? There were several of us who weren't impressed with you either but we still supported your ministry without sharing our thoughts. But since you put it out there on YouTube about my brother... just know those things come full circle. Hope you get yourself out of the way one day. read more

Monument Baptist Church is a pretty Church, and the people are very friendly, but the pastor tends to bash the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible. In one of his messages, he said "here, the writers of the KJV are being a little pompous. I've been pompous before, but I'm careful not to be that way anymore..." To the Monument Baptist Church pastor, you're the pompous one. I have a feeling the writers of the KJV knew what they were doing since "holy men of God" were moved on by the Holy Ghost to write the Word of God. It's my understanding that he's some kind of Greek scholar, but he preaches a boring message. I'm not looking for hype in a message, but I'm looking for someone to preach as if they're preaching from a Book that is alive the way the Bible is! It would be nice if he would tell everyone from what book and chapter he was preaching because nobody is given a chance to turn in their Bible with few exceptions. Most people don't even have their Bibles open. If Church isn't the place to open your Bible, then we're probably not going to open the Bible at home. With his preaching, you'd never know that he was preaching from a living book! In every service, they have a 5 minute boring video that they show. Why are they showing these 5 minute videos? If I want to watch videos, Christian or otherwise, I can stay home and watch all the Christian or non Christian videos or TV that I please. I guess it allows the pastor to preach less by showing those videos. By the time they sing a few songs; have a time where everyone greets everyone else; take up the offering; let the little kids exit for children's Church and show the 5 minute video, that leaves him about 20 minutes. If you like the KJV, this may not be the place for you. If you're single, they don't have much here for you. If you're part of a family, they may have something here that appeals to you, but don't expect your walk with Christ to grow by leaps and bounds because the Word is just lifeless here. The good thing is that the traditional service is after the "modern" and kind of strange early service which is typically reversed for most Churches. So, that is a plus. I've noticed that people are on their cell phones all the time during the service reading their emails or surfing the internet, and these are the adults! I don't know about other people, but I want to go to a Church that's full of faith, and I don't see or hear any faith there, and it certainly doesn't come out of the pastor. read more
