Gruyère pull apart. Buttery, cheesy, flaky heavenly muffin shaped perfection. My guy had these in Olympia coffee roasting on Olympia's west side on a visit and found where to get them in the city. It's a lovely quiet space right on Queen Anne with a covered courtyard and outdoor seating. We were there in the early afternoon and the case was plenty full of choices. The baker was pulling a fresh batch of croissants out of the oven. I am used to have to get anywhere in Seattle at the crack of dawn to get a good selection, so that was nice. They were welcoming. Twice Baked Chocolate Almond Croissant...FTWWWW! I visited Le Reve Bakery & Cafe by a recommendation from a business client I had a meeting with who works in the area and she could not have recommended a better place for an afternoon treat. I mean, the entire time we kept talking she would find some way to bring Le Reve Bakery & Cafe up, so I figured this woman couldn't be more true to my heart. A French bakery that you claim makes the best croissants? Count me in. Le Reve Bakery & Cafe is located on upper Queen Anne and is in a craftsman house! It's quite charming and I imagine that in better weather the patio must be a fun place to hang out, as there were tables and chairs stacked up in the front lawn of the house. I walked in the entrance and was immediately greeted by the staff and the dessert case. Yes, they were enticing. Turn around the corner and you'll find where the baked pastries are, including the Twice Baked Chocolate Almond Croissant. Almonds and chocolate is a combination I can't resist, and to have it in a croissant just makes it all the more divine. I ordered one of those and took a seat to debrief after my meeting before heading home. Well, I was gonna debrief. I was gonna look over notes and start jotting down action items and so forth, but after taking one bite of the twice baked chocolate almond croissant I was hooked! Like chips, you can't take just one chip. You have to have more. And that's what I did with this wonderful croissant. I took another bite and another and another and tasted so many wonderful different textures and flavors. Since it was twice baked, the croissant itself had crispy flakes that fell from the croissant and loved the crunch from the baked sliced almonds. There were chunks of chocolate throughout the croissant and my most favorite part was the almond cream inside. Holy crap. Though the outside of the croissant was crispy, it was somehow soft and creamy inside the croissant. I couldn't stop eating it and did not care who saw me, covered in the powdered sugar that was on top of the croissant. Order the Twice Baked Chocolate Almond Croissant, which is perfectly executed here at Le Reve. I don't often visit upper Queen Anne, but Le Reve Bakery & Cafe makes me wanna start exploring the area. Had the twice baked almond croissant, it was really dense, dry and didn't have a ton of flavor. I like what they did with the patio space, but had to move seats a few times because the WiFi doesn't work well if you sit in most seats out there. The baked goods are decent, but the employees are so rude that it defies explanation. One time two employees were propping open the door to the back so they could smoke. This was in the winter, so cold smoky air was coming into the place. I asked one of the employees if they could close that door, and he squared up aggressively before the other employee pulled him back and told him to chill out - and said they'd close the door. Another time they had no trash by the condiments area. So people were using a bus tub to store things like sugar wrappers, etc. We did the same, and then an employee from behind the counter started screaming at us. Sorry for not carrying a personal trash can everywhere. All in all - we won't be back. There are so many other great bakeries in Seattle. Maybe Reve is the only option for those who don't want to leave the top of the hill. But venturing even a mile out, gives Byen Bakeri. And now that I think about it, Macrina is even closer on McGraw. I see no need to patronize such an establishment, when many other places have good pastries AND good service (I know, shocking to have both!) read more

I ordered the twice baked chocolate croissant with a cup of drip coffee. The guy at the register took my order wrong initially and handed me a chocolate croissant, which I took slightly confusedly. After sitting down I realized that the croissant I had been given was probably not what I had wanted, and I went back up to ask about it. He apologized and exchanged my croissant immediately, which, wow thank you for going with my request, and not doubting my confusion. I was a little flustered ordering, but having gotten the pastry that I wanted, I went about consuming it. The croissant was a bit tougher than expected, and it had a strange filling that I definitely did not expect. Overall, I'm not sure if I liked it or not, but the service was impeccable, so that probably made the pastry taste better. The coffee was smooth and flavorful, my only complaint would be that it was a bit cold, probably left sitting out without being changed out for a fresh pot for a little too long. The lemon meringue tart that my friend ordered was a little heavy on the crust, in that I would have liked it more if the ratio was skewed more in favor of the lemon curd. The kouign amann was super interesting and unexpectedly dense, and I definitely enjoyed the small sample that I got from my friend's' plate. Overall, a decent pastry place! I remember when I met you. It was a warm, late summer day and you were the perfect host. Quiet, charming, relaxed. You had an unassuming appearance, but I was quickly surprised by your sweet gestures. And that's when I first fell in love. ;) La Reve, you have stolen my heart! This bakery has quickly become one of my favorite cafes in Queen Anne. With a patio that's open during the summer, La Reve is the perfect spot for any occasion - dates, studying, meetings and so on. I'm a sucker for baked goods and can be quite indecisive, especially with such a wide variety at La Reve! But everyone working there has been very personable and great with recommendations. While the twice-baked almond croissant is my favorite, I'd say you should get a few different treats to try. If you can't finish them in one go, I've found that the pastries are still good the next day. :) Prices are pretty typical for a specialty bakery, with each pastry roughly at around $4 each. Also, as the bakery is right off of Queen Anne Ave, you can find parking spots right along the block if you're lucky, but if not, you'll have to make do with street parking. Definitely stop by if you're in the area - you won't be disappointed! read more

Mmmmm. Fruit pastry. Is it wrong to love a place (mostly) because of a fruit pastry? I'm both sad and glad that they don't have wifi. They have a nice little indoor space and a wonderful outdoor seating area, and while I'm sad that I can't work here, I'm glad that it's a good spot to relax, read, or have a conversation. The main reason(s) to love them, however, are the pastries and desserts. On my first visit I had a fruit pastry, and on my second visit I had to get the same pastry. It's so perfect and they have this crispy sugar on it that's just divine. I'm kind of happy that I don't live or work near Le Rêve, because I'd probably be here for breakfast several times a week. I was sure I had already reviewed the all holy pastry that is the kouign amann here, but apparently not. Le Reve is the perfect adorable date, brunch, coffee with friends, bring your mom, bring your out of town guests... I could go on. This is a very nice spot with patio seating in the sun out front, easy parking, and plenty of seating inside. They do brunch every day, which is great for a weekend worker like myself. I've been here for a baby shower in their space upstairs (adorable and wonderful), on dates, and finally most recently with my sister and son. The staff is so nice, even when they have to remake a soy latte your kid stuck his finger into because the latte art was so good he thought it was made of wood. We shared a kouign amann, C had a mini cheesecake, I had the quiche Lorraine and my sis opted for the omelette of the day, a caramelized onion, ham, and feta. The kouign amann wasn't as salty as I remember (sad day!), but it was crisp and buttery on the outside, soft and sweet on the inside. The omelette was probably the star of the order-- eggs fluffy, filling plentiful, came with roasted red potatoes and a couple pieces of fruit. My quiche was also delicious-- the eggs weren't too cream-based, but were fluffy, there was plenty of ham and onion. My only complaint was crust-- it was probably whole wheat and really thin. :( C's mini cheesecake was adorable-- topped with a roasted marshmallow, graham cracker crumbs, chocolate sauce, and Le Reve's logo in edible chocolate. A cup of coffee, iced americano (12 oz) and kid's vanilla milk set me back $30 before tip. Win! read more

Monica B always posts up pics of mouth watering food. One day, she posted up a beautiful pic of a pear croissant. Immediately I knew I had to head over to Le Reve and get my hands on one of them. But oh, Le Reve is filled with even more delicious pastries. I felt so conflicted with all the possibilities to choose from. Eventually I did settle for the pear croissant and a ham and gruyere croissant to split with a friend. The pear croissant reminded me more of a danish pastry but I love how flaky it was and the pear was delicious. As for the ham and gruyere, I like how it was not greasy and the mustard gave it a nice kick. Le Reve is a great spot for a small breakfast. Good thing I don't live nearby or I might find myself to be a regular here. read more

It's a good thing that this bakery, and most of Seattle's other fine bakeries, are so inconvenient for me to get to. This place is very cute, and the food was very good. A group of us went and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. We all had sandwiches, and everyone liked theirs. I got the Croque Monsieur, which was a bit misleading as it was just a hot ham and cheese sammie. But still very tasty. We got a bunch of desserts to share and take home. We shared at the table a lemon tart, a custard eclair, and a plum tart i think. We thought the eclair was good if not very impressive, the plum tart was good, but the lemon tart was definitely the best of the desserts. I'm drooling a bit now. The hubby and i got a few things to bring home. He got a savory croissant and a chocolate croissant (he said both were good), and I got the Kouign Amann. Damn. Yes, I said damn. That was good. What a great little find this is but you have to get there early and the place is crowded. The small crampy space is the one reason I'm not giving them 5 stars. The other? Because I went at 10:45 for the lentil salad and they told me to come back at 11. At 11 it still wasn't ready. My table mates all had the same thing but since I won't eat ham on a baguette, I opted for the special which was a warmed lentil salad with a variety of ingredients, including the Chevre cheese. It was very tasty. This part of Queen Anne is full of shops and the like and Le Reve' is a nice little break from that. I highly recommend it. I just have one favor to ask. Because this place is so small, could you please leave your children at home? Yes I'm getting a bit curmudgeonly lately and that's the one thing that will set me off. I've eaten here twice now and it's just simply delightful! I love their pastries, toast, and omelettes. I got the ham, caramelized onions and Gruyere cheese, but substituted the back for the ham! I got my meal and it was one slice of bread not sure but last time I got two with the meal! Anywho I'll pay for two next time! They have this homemade jam that is too die for! That texture too! I don't know what it is about day old pastries and turning them into twice baked items but a few days old seems to improve the quality of the pastry! I hate giving this 3 stars, because in the surface it should be 5. The building is adorable and presentation and layout inside are lovely. Everything in the cases look delicious and it smells great. For the most part everyone seems happy to be working there, although you can tell the difference when one of them is a bit on the flustered side. But overall, everyone I've encountered has been very nice. Where does it fall flat you ask...the one thing it shouldn't fall flat on, and that's the food. I've tried multiple things from here, and from Olympus coffee (where there stuff is served too), and everything has been dry beyond reason and super super dense. I decided to try a Kouign-amann today and it was like biting down it to a sickly sweet 10 day old slab of dry cake. Literally the opposite of what a light flaky-pastry delicious kouign-amann should be. And that unfortunately seems to be the standard of their pastries - dense and dry. Scones - you could knock someone out with. They too are dry and hard :( So disappointing as they have so much potential. read more

I'm a sucker for cute little bakery/patisseries, so when I discovered this little adorable gem on yelp, I had to try it out. I've been twice now. The old house turned business is super cute. I love the atmosphere and warmth of this place. The staff have been friendly and talkative with me/us both visits, and the desserts are AMAZING! My friend also got the le gobbler sandwich and thought it was pretty delicious. I've had a savory baked item and 3 different desserts, and I loved all of them. Twice Baked Almond Croissant. I visited Seattle in June 2021. At least once a week I think of this croissant. Never have I found a comparable almond croissant. I find myself thinking about it weekly. No joke, I have had a dream about this croissant. I frequently text my Seattle friend, "thinking of that almond croissant!" And a few times, I've gotten the excited text from her, "I just got the croissant!!" I live 12+ hours away and have contemplated planning trips around this very croissant. La Rêve is located in upper Queen Anne and has a nice small neighborhood vibe. The bakery is located inside of what looks like a large house, but is a nice open area that has plenty of seating. It gets busy here in the weekend mornings, and for good reason! Their pastries (I drool a bit thinking of their twice baked chocolate croissant) and their coffee are delicious. Don't miss out on their breakfast and lunch options though, they have many great options. Pretty amazing place in an urban setting The chocolate raspberry mousse was incredible and so was the gobbler.. fresh cranberries (not grown in France) and white turkey meat peeled apart in small chunks are served on a really soft French roll (also not made in France!) I also ordered a phenomenal looking cinnamon roll and a small berry tart.. which I can't review because my seven year old daughter wolfed it down before giving me a chance to either take a picture or take a bite. Went here yesterday with a few ladies from a Meetup group I'm in and really liked it! I didn't get to try the pastries but they looked amazing and the ambiance of the place had a very European feel to it. I ordered the Croque Madam and was in love! The ham and gruyere cheese went so well with the fried eggs on top. It was a bit messy to handle since the eggs were cooked over medium but had fun scooping up the yolk with my sandwich. The pickled red onions they had on the side were very good too. This has become a favorite and will be back to try the pastries! read more

Very generous 5 stars. This place is pretty dang cool, but I was also in an amazing mood when I came here sooo my experience was wonderful. This is in upper Queen Anne, little house looking bakery w/ maybe 5-7 small tables inside and same amount outside seating. On Sunday around noon, there was a 7 person line when I got there to order. I didn't mind waiting though. Food/drinks: I'd like to try their sweet crossiants, but the almond one I know would be pretty hefty and I would wanna go halfsies on it, but I didn't go with anyone else soooo yah. Lol. Sad face. I tried the spinach feta crossiant instead ($4). I'm not a huge crossiant fan, but I will say this is one of the better ones I've had. They also have desserts here as well. I got a fruit tart to go ($5), but haven't had it yet (I shoulda waited to write this review, but forgot all about the fruit tart until writing this). I also had a vanilla latte. Pretty solid 4 star beverage :) So let me tell you what was the icing on the cake for this place: the cashier was super friendly/resourceful. It was my first time in and she answered a couple questions I had about the desserts and pastries very pleasantly. Also also also, they were playing oldies in here! Pumpkin is a great idea, but the macaron was stale, dry and crunchy. Usually I come for the coffee or croissants, but I haven't been here in 8 months so maybe the quality has changed. My review is based off of shear taste and not on the price/decor/ambiance of the store. I'm pretty ignorant as to how much things cost here because a friend recently brought seven delicious pastries over to our house to sample. It was heavenly. Every one of those pastries were super yummy. We had a fun tasting party because we cut each pastry into 1/5th (b/c there were 5 people) and we all got to try a little piece of heaven. My favorite pastry was the strawberry cream (?) I'm not sure about the specific names but it looked like a strawberry dome. It was super yummy. Next favorite was their cheese cake, then creme brûlée, bread pudding, and then chocolate cake. They were all exceptionally good. The ones that I ranked higher probably just suited my pallet more.
