This wasn't a huge deal, but the venue was on a slope and the tables were spaced fairly close together which was uncomfortable. Some drinks had spilled and just ran down the table into other guests' areas. Early on in the luau, guests had the opportunity to view an Imu Ceremony which was cool and something I haven't had the opportunity to witness at other luaus. My group was immediately started with 2 drinks each which was sugary and didn't have much alcohol in it. And apparently their policy is that each guest can't have more than 2 drinks at a time, but you could ask to swap out your drinks (you don't have to finish it). The buffet had a good spread of items, from basics like salad to regional flavors like kalua pork. The quality was fine - obviously not Michelin star quality, but it wasn't school cafeteria food either. I appreciate the large plates because you could fit a little bit of each item on there so you could try it all. I didn't see many people go back for seconds. Clearly the luau organizers are strategic about the food lineup so people don't overload on the meat at the end. The entertainment was fine. The performers were great, but honestly I didn't feel like there was much energy from the stage nor the crowd. Overall, the experience could've been better. Many of the employees looked tired and stressed and seemed to be on auto-pilot. It felt a bit like the guests were like cattle being shuffled around.

They started handing us drinks left and right as we sat down. After drinks, they had a demonstration of how they were smoke the pork in the dirt and the staff would pull the pork out from ground. We were able to relax a little bit and had dinner service, which was pretty good for a buffet. It was all you can eat, but honestly, I filled my plate up so high that I did not need seconds. They had storytelling, against, and fire! Overall, it was a great experience in Kona. I always opt in for a luau when I am in Hawaii.

The locker rooms and bathrooms are really dirty and often emit a really unpleasant odor. In the pictures you can see there is possibly mold growing or something else making the walls fall apart. Come on, the Planet Fitness down the road is in better condition. My biggest complaint is there aren't any available lockers!!! I don't understand why this gym lets people keep lockers overnight. No other gym I've been to allows this. This means that there's no room to keep your valuables when working out or showering. You will frequently see people lugging their gym bags all over the workout area because they don't have a locker to put their things in. It's really frustrating. My hope is that the owners change this policy to one where lockers are day use only, which is standard among every other gym I've been to on the mainland and in Hawaii. Additionally, there is a very limited offering of workout equipment, most of which is for weight training and not cardio. There are about 5 treadmills and 4 ellipticals, one of which is broken. The sauna breaks frequently too and last year the pool was drained for months on end. In summary, this gym is unclean and isn't big enough for the needs of the community. For a membership that costs about 100 dollars a month, I would expect a much better quality experience. Front desk employees are pleasant. Parking during mid day frequently is full.

We didn't upgrade to the more elite package and it was completely fine. From what I could tell, the differences were early check in, flower leis versus shell ones, closer seating, and being in the front of the buffet line. To us, it wasn't worth it as the entrance lines moved fast after the picture stop, the buffet line also moved quickly, and everyone could see the stage. Having a keiki buffet already set up when we entered was a nice touch. Unfortunately, adults were also eating from it. There were taro chips and dip on the table to snack on as we waited for the main buffet to open. There were lots of options for salads, proteins (huli chicken, short rib, kalua pork), veggies, fish, breads, sides, and a dessert display. I thought that the quality of the food was fairly good for a buffet. All drinks were included and there were two bars that were never crowded. We enjoyed ourselves and the dancing, music, and fire show kept the kids entertained. There was however more talking by the host than what was needed but time moved quickly. For the discounted price we paid, it was a great experience. I wouldn't have paid the full price of $215 for general seating or $245 for ali'i seating ($112 and $142 for kids). As you can imagine, prices are higher for the holiday luaus.

Based on our experience at the rest of the resort during our stay, I was hesitant. I will say…read morethough, I was pleasantly surprised. I still think it is overpriced and it is not as luxurious as luaus I've been to on Maui and Oahu. For example, there is no beach to see the sunset, the massive amount of concrete takes away from the ambiance, and there are no lush grounds to explore. But the performance was top-notch. No complaints there. Talented entertainment and the hostess was very engaging. The food was quite good. I especially appreciated that the keiki buffet was open as soon as we came in, so children could get their food first. That was a nice touch. (I also sampled my son's mac and cheese, which was delicious!) The buffet line moves fast for the adults and there was a good variety of traditional Hawaiian food. We were big fans of the bread pudding for dessert. Drinks were a bit weak, and diet cokes were a little flat, but the coffee was good and my son liked his mocktail. The best part of this experience was the kindness and efficiency of the staff. The trams and boats are down at the resort, and my parents have mobility issues. We arranged with the hotel staff to take a golf cart over to the luau area and they took us there. We were pretty early, based on the time they could give us a ride, but the staff gave my parents chairs and my son and I found some picnic tables to wait until we could go in. Then the luau staff was kind enough to arrange for the golf cart to pick us up right when the luau ended. It made it very easy for them- they would have had a hard time walking all the way there. It also started to rain during the middle of our luau and the staff brought everyone rain ponchos. So my take-away/advice here is to do this if you can afford it, but just don't expect Paradise Cove or Old Lahaina quality grounds. Don't pay for the premium seating. It's a little closer, yes, but we still had a great view from the back. You do get a flower lei as opposed to the shell necklace for that experience. I think the only other different thing you get for that is edamame and water at your table. (We got some chips and onion dip as an appetizer) You might get beverages delivered to you with premium service, but honestly the lines were not long to get your own at the walk-up bar. The bartender was so nice and friendly. We chit-chatted for a bit and I told him I am a flight attendant so I am fortunate enough to come to the islands more than most people. He said "Welcome home!"

I bought my 3 girls along to watch in hopes that they'd want to join the classes here. During practice they split the kids in groups and had them go to different parts of the gym to practice on different mats and equipment. My girls went to watch their cousin in a spot of the gym where we could not see from the bleachers were we were originally sitting, so they went by the check in desk near the cubbies to get a better view to see what she was doing. They motioned her good job and keep trying When they noticed she was having a hard time. My girls are sitting and I was standing right behind them. 7 minutes into watching what they do in class my girls were considering taking classes. One of the coaches that turned out to be the owner starts walking toward us shouting in a rude tone, "This is for training and practice and you need to get out, you need to move!" Shooing us out like we were trespassing and pointing her finger to my girls and then to me to leave the area. There was no sign stating no entry or anything of that sort, so how were we supposed to know? We went back to the bleachers and seconds after sitting practice was over. My niece came running to me asking if I saw her practice and that she was all done. Of course I acknowledged her and I said yes. We walked to the car and got ready to leave. I looked in my rearview mirror and I saw my 3 girls nearly crying my oldest girl said never mind mom, I don't think I want to do the classes anymore. She was really mean and she didn't have to talk to us like that. My girls are 9, 7 and 3. Kona Aerials just lost 3 potential girls.
