If the idea of a scented candle sends something behind your left eye a-twitching and the certainty of a migraine on the way, this store will convert you.
Not a 'fragrance oil' (read: chemical) in sight. Or smell. Actual, locally made, pure essential oil candles that make your great-grand nanna's pot pourri run screaming in obsolete despair. My picks: the sandalwood and the lemongrass. Which smell exactly like they're supposed to. Shock horror. The staff suggest sniffing from the bottom end of the candle to get the best idea of the true scent. They have little votives full of coffee beans 'to refresh your sense of smell'. While their signature candles come in a range of shapes and sizes, I've found the round pillars burn better than the rectangular. I'm sure someone could write a thesis on the thermodynamic differences, but there you are.
An absolute must-stop for knocking off the-irritating-person-who-has-everything off your Chrissie list, Moontree stock all kind of candle paraphenalia, from plates to stand them upon, shells to scatter around, and two levels of homewares downstairs. Some of these are a little design-by-numbers, but there's some local art on the walls, and some real bargains to be had.
