TL;DR Reservation Counter is a legit business that employs completely legal but less than ethical…read moretactics to grab your cash. Do not book with them if you need the safety net of a cancellation policy. I feel like I was scammed. I never book reservations through 3rd party sites, because I accrue and spend member points. Given that information, you would think that I have hotel websites bookmarked...I don't...well...I do now. I was convinced that I was looking at a (insert hotel chain name) dot com site. CONVINCED! I've since tried to back track my steps and figure out how I landed on a 3rd party booking site in the first place, but for the life of me I can't. I was in a rush to book my stay and I was very confused when my hotel rewards login credentials wouldn't work. I should have stopped right there, slowed down and paid attention to the address bar in my browser. I didn't. It has been a very long time since I stayed at this particular hotel chain. Since I have too many email addresses, I figured the easiest thing to do was to create a new account...thinking I would merge points later. The whole time, I thought that I was creating an account with the hotel, not with Reservation Counter. The booking page let me continue to complete the transaction. I was not forced to view my email and confirm my account setup...BUT IF I HAD I would have seen Reservation Counter in the email and then I would not have submitted card info. I continued. I submitted my card info. I completed the booking and the transaction. There is no turning back now. The screen displayed an invoice and itinerary number. I checked my email to confirm receipt, and my stomach sank. There in my inbox were two emails from Reservation Counter, the account that I just created and my invoice. Fine...I thought...I'll just cancel this. I'm booked weeks away. This just happened. I'll cancel my order through Reservation Counter, and then I'll book with the hotel chain like I thought I was doing in the first place. Within the Reservation Counter email confirmation, I found info that I did not catch clearly while booking; Cancellation Policy: This reservation is non-refundable. I thought...of course it's not...you can't refund what you haven't charged for...right? Right. Wrong. I checked with my bank. The full amount of my stay was charged to my account. No deposit. No holding. Full pop. WAIT A FLIPPIN MINUTE. I absolutely did not read that this was going to happen during any part of the trickery within their booking site. This got me fired up and curious about the legitimacy of Reservation Counter. Also, I was a bit panicked too. Google search results for Reservation Counter were not instilling confidence. Thinking I am definitely going to need to lawyer-up, the first thing I did was to call the hotel directly. In that call, to my surprise and delight, and THE ONLY REASON THAT THIS REVIEW IS GETTING 2 STARS, I confirmed that the hotel has a room for me, the booking is legit, AND Reservation Counter managed to link my rewards membership (via my phone number) to my stay at this hotel. I wasn't trying to save money by booking through a 3rd party. FYI, most of the time you're not saving money doing that. The level of deception in making their site look as much like the original hotel chain as possible left me feeling used. Further online digging revealed that Reservation Counter is a subsidiary of a subsidiary of a subsidiary of PriceLine. I'm going to try to book another stay and see if I can get Reservation Counter to interfere. If I can, then I'll come back to this with screen shots of their "attempt" to hide terms and policies.

I cancelled before the deadline and have a timestamped email proving it. They refused to refund my $1,387.50. Filed a BBB complaint and their response claimed they were "working on my case" -- I never heard from them once after cancelling. Total fabrication. Book directly with your hotel. This company makes cancellation deliberately confusing and will keep your money even when you cancel on time.

Steve Judd was our guide throughout possessing the perfect calming and good natured temperment dealing with people and/or unexpected issues. He didn't seem phased or ruffled by much. He was very diligent in making sure every tour member knew what was happening whether we were grouped together or not. He also accounted for each piece of luggage at our various stops. We felt cared for and appreciated. Everything was handled in a professional manner whether it was with Steve or any of the office personnel (pre-tour). All of them were eager to assist in any way possible . . . they shine in customer service! :) All of our infomation packets (Pre-tour & during) were spot on preparing us for every aspect of our experience. We also appreciated the in person / Zoom pre-trip meeting as well as the rapid response to any questions we had. Now for our tour. We loved the size and pace. While the company can't control the weather, it was beautiful the whole time . . . May really is a great time to see Peru. Our local guides, Charo (Cultural) & Pepe (Incan), were warm, humourous, relatable, and knowledgeable. Reynaldo was our expert driver. All of our guides at Machu Picchu (a dream come true), the Amazon (Orlando & crew), and throughout Peru were top notch. We were impressed with all of our accommodations and the whole journey really was "Crafted With Purpose." There was time to rest and recuperate as well as enjoy all of the Peruvian destinations. Peru is so much more than Machu Picchu and we loved our whole experience. If you haven't been to Peru, you must go with Brian Judd Tours.

We booked with a large group and several of the group members felt that they were treated rudely by her. She was incredibly hard to get ahold of through both email and phone call. We contacted her several times through email and by phone about her using an incorrect email address for us that she never did correct. When our flights were canceled due to weather we were not helped by the office. We were informed that they could not help us with anything due to the trip being within 24hrs. We where directed to a phone service that we were on hold with for 4.5 hrs. After an hour of hold I called the agency office back to ask about cancellation policies and refunds for days missed and they informed me that they couldn't help with any changes and that I would have to wait on the phone like everyone else and they didn't have a magic button to push us through in line. The online service took so long our original airline was already booked full and we had to pay extra to fly with a different airline. We were also told that we would have to pay a penalty fee for missing a day at the resort due to weather, even though weather was out of our control. Overall we were very upset and would advise against anyone else using this agent or agency!
