The Goga classes are only every other week, on saturday mornings. They have mats available for you, and cubbies to put your stuff in. Don't bring a water bottle with a straw, they will most likely ask you to put it away. The goats look like they are treated so well, and they have a ton of staff around the facility to make sure they goats and attendees are all enjoying their time, as well as cleaning after the accidents as they go. The place is big and pretty noisy at first, but can you blame the excitement? We had a few bachelorette groups there as well. But once the teacher got started and asked for calm, everybody settled and tried as well as they could to do some of the beginner yoga positions, while getting sidetracked by all the cute goats walking around and asking to be pet. The outfits are hilariously cute! I quickly figured it out that it made it easy for the staff to catch the goats with the little tutus on. Final word: you're not going there to show your yoga abilities, if that's the case, go to a normal yoga class. If you're a goat lover who could use a good stretch, and easy yoga poses, then this is for you! Enjoy!

For what it's worth, I did notice that the 10:00AM class (which was the one we had booked) was a little less crowded than the 11:00AM class, but perhaps that changes with different times of the year. You do have to sign a waiver beforehand, and I do highly recommend making a reservation beforehand as they are quite popular. There were at least 40 people in attendance during our class, and I had overheard somebody saying that the later class was completely booked. If you're travelling from out of town, like we were, they do have yoga mats you can borrow for the class. Our instructor was Shari, and the class was a 45 vinyasa class. There was a lot of information right before the class and handlers for the goats to go around the class to make sure that every attendee gets to have a goat on their back and/or to be able to cuddle them, and how to hold and cuddle them if you so choose. I don't think most people would book these classes, expecting to focus fully on a yoga class, as it's very, very easy to get distracted with such cute goats (and they were all dressed in cute festive holiday gear when we went!) roaming around. Pictures are encouraged, and there was a photographer going around as well. Also, yes, I did have a goat placed on my back, as did the bf. Shari was also a pretty good instructor, despite how distracted I was with the goats. Once the class is over, you're also invited to pose and take pictures with some of the goats. My heart near melted when I got to hold one tiny baby goat. It's not a particularly cheap experience (it was $30 each for me and the bf), but for a chance to get some exercise in and to be able to cuddle with some adorable creatures? I say that it was worth every penny in my book. Would happily go back, if I ever find myself in the area again.

After searching for years throughout our engagement, we had nearly convinced ourselves that no such venue existed. That was until we saw The Ball Farm. The Ball Farm, owned and operated by the wonderful couple Ivey and Josh Ball, was legitimately our dream come true. We had so many wild plans, but Josh and Ivey were happy to listen and help us bring all of our ideas to life. Their wealth of knowledge in the event industry made coordinating with vendors a breeze. They were such a pleasure to work with throughout the entire experience that we never once had to worry - we knew this day would be everything we wanted. The Ball Farm itself is absolutely breathtaking. Our wedding was in the spring, and the farm was bursting with life. Our ceremony site was beyond picturesque. We were married beneath the canopy of two beautiful giant oak trees. Ivey and Josh worked with us to coordinate several live bands and a large seated dinner under a covered pavilion. Not only did the space perfectly accommodate our wedding and reception, it also allowed us to seamlessly incorporate overnight camping into the event. The campground was nestled among a grove of trees beside two ponds. Ivey and Josh helped us coordinate with a vendor to set up enough tents for all of our guests to stay. On the night of, they even built bonfires for us to sit around and celebrate all night long. It was nothing short of a magical experience. I never thought I would be the kind of bride to say that my wedding was the best day of my life, but when the day came, I couldn't stop saying it. And for that, I will be forever grateful to Ivey and Josh and their beautiful farm.

I've heard rumors they treat the animals poorly and when I saw the animals I'm starting to believe them. I've also heard about what they do to the animals dead bodies and I'm DISGUSTED. I saw serval cages empty, really makes you think why is that? What are they doing to these poor animals because from my own knowledge you're not supposed to put an animal that been held CAPTIVE back into the wild. Even with that one of the workers told me that evil place is their forever home more like forever prison or death sentence. I also saw rust in the water the animals were drinking and this is what they claim is an animal sanctuary?? On top of all of this I saw a worker with no bra on and nearly got flashed, MY GRANDKIDS were with me. On top of all of this I met a woman Kim and she was SO RUDE and made my grandkids uncomfortable. That woman immediately gave me predatory vibes and I felt like I needed to get them out of there as soon as possible. I will NEVER return.

First, I just wanted to address the recurring complaint in many reviews regarding the zoo not being…read morestroller-friendly. We left our wagon in the car due to those reviews and later regretted it. You can get by with a sturdy stroller here (with robust wheels). A flimsy one might struggle in some areas. Most of the walking areas are flat (not paved though) but there are a few gnarly areas that are pretty rocky and situated on an incline. I'm posting photos for reference although it might be a bit tough to see. The zoo could really smooth these areas out to make things easier and safer for visitors. Ultimately, the zoo is fairly small -- I had my youngest in a front-facing carrier while my 3YO walked. Second, I wanted to note that the Austin Zoo is not affiliated with the city of Austin. They are a private non-profit organization that does not receive city funding or have any management by the city. They are a rescue-based zoo wherein their animals come from seizures and surrenders, etc. They really should change their name -- I think many visitors expect this to be a city zoo (setting their standards high, only to be inevitably disappointed). I am having a hard time rating this zoo. It is a non-profit that seeks to help animals and it seems like they don't receive funding to do so. At the same time, this place generally seemed a bit run down/dirty. Some of the animals seemed sad/stressed (saw a monkey and an ostrich with missing fur/feathers). Now, I know these are rescues so I can't confidently attribute that stress to conditions at the zoo -- possible that it's related to their past experiences or just general adjustment to a new place. Last but certainly not least, many of the enclosures are way too small for the animals they're housing. This is alarming. I know they're being rescued but perhaps there's a better home for them. The tickets are not exactly cheap. Although children under 2 are free, 2+ tickets are 16.95. That's only $3 less than adult pricing. I get that they don't get city funding but at those prices, I'd at least expect the grounds to look less run down than they did. Also, they don't give you a map nor did I see one posted anywhere (you have to rely on an online map on their website). Once again, they really could invest some revenue toward enhancing the visitor experience. Don't miss the train ride since there are some animals (like the porcupine) that can only be viewed from the train. The conductor (also ticket salesman) was super nice. He also very politely asked my husband to switch spots with my toddler (so she wouldn't be on the open side of the train car). I appreciated that greatly. The gift shop was surprisingly cute and had a bunch of great souvenir options. Beautiful peacocks roaming the grounds is a nice touch. Ultimately, a bit of an uncomfortable visit given the sad animals, inadequate enclosure size, lack of general upkeep, and relatively expensive tickets.

The staff was flexible to shift timing of the experiences so we didn't have to wait long in between- they were extremely accommodating and we never felt rushed either. The otter swim/playtime experience was originally what drew us, and it was even better than I'd imagined. Worth every penny! Then we got to feed and pet the capybaras, which were way friendlier than I thought they would be! The babies enjoyed some extra belly rubs too. Bottle feeding the kangaroo was so fun too- little Dundee was SO soft and loved all the pets, even gave us kisses! The giraffes were super friendly and greeted us every time we were nearby; feeding and getting quality time with them was an extra treat. The safari ride tour was also amazing- 5 of us fit comfortably and got to feed/see lots of animals that we wouldn't normally get to experience. We were surprised at how this place wasn't crowded at all in the middle of July when it is peak vacation season, so it really felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. They also have a beautiful main lodge area that is comfortable and welcoming with additional animals to enjoy.
