This place was recommended by the resort I was staying at so I had high hopes. My waitress was very friendly and helpful and I think I lucked out. The waiter that had the two tables next to me messed up 5 of his 7 plates. So the service can be a toss up. I ordered the stone chicken with a loaded baked potato and brussel sprouts with a maple glaze. The chicken was cooked ok but I didn't care for the flavor of the beer and onion sauce. The brussel sprouts were dark brown/black but I enjoyed the flavor even though it was visually unappealing. The potato was smaller than I was expecting and was a little chewy. One of our first forays out since the state reopened. This is a long-standing casual family restaurant, rustic atmosphere. They are taking care to observe pandemic guidelines, but it doesn't put a dent in service. Mimsy said it was the best Reuben she's ever had, the fries were perfect, nice and crispy. Our experience at Morisseys was subpar. We sat down and a waitress did not approach us for about 20 minutes, when a woman did greet us, she did know who our waitress was either. We ordered, and waiting another long while for our drinks. When our food arrived it was delicious, shout out to the chefs! We were disappointed with the service but we'll chalk it up to not having enough help, which is an unfortunate trend in the restaurant industry right now. I've started coming here a lot more frequently since the start of Covid....doing tons of takeout over the last 15 months or so. We were ordering at least once a week and sometimes more. Some favorites have been lobster stew, chili, pub pie, fried clams, fried chicken, french dip, crab cakes, and the pasta (the latter has recently been removed from the menu which is so very sad for our kids). I really like the food. The chowder has so much potential if only it had some clams in it instead of being stuffed full of potatoes. Tonight I ate only broth and the potatoes took up almost the entire cup as pictured. When we eat there in the bar or restaurant area we always have a good experience with good service. Also it's funny someone below called it a tourist trap...it's actually quite a local spot especially with the new Irish pub area. The real reason for the 3 stars is the last month they've been really disappointing in ways that could be easily solved but they don't seem to care when issues raised. Almost every time we get takeout lately something is missing. Usually a side (recently cup of chili) or essential condiment (my family just can't enjoy clam bellies without tartar sauce!!) Also often lately the food seems to have sat there for a while as we have had soggy salads, cold chowder, etc. I don't usually bother but recently said something and asked for either a fresh batch of fried clam bellies or a refund and i would return the untouched food. They took.it back as if getting new ones and instead came back saying they put the old batch back in the fryer to warm them up...they were like rubber. If those little things improve slightly this review would be higher for sure as like I said it's been a favorite. I will definitely update it in the future assuming that's the case! P.S. the kids menu items suck for kids. The PB+J was 2 inches thick with jelly. The chicken fingers are more like chicken balls. The pizza is some weird french bread concoction...NOT ok when a young kid is excitedly waiting for pizza. Bring back spaghetti :) read more

My wife and I kept trying Morrissey's Front Porch, mostly because I was hoping to show her the same experience I had as a kid when it was known as Bailey's. Unfortunately, while the ambiance is still there, the quality is not. The wait staff, while friendly, was inattentive. Prices are high (but typical for this area) compared to the quality of the food. Food was bland and took an inordinately long time to arrive. We have also tried the dairy window on a few occasions, thinking they could do no wrong with ice cream. Instead, we found at the beginning of the summer, that the ice cream tasted... stale... as if from last year. Is this even possible? Either way, we will likely wait until the restaurant changes hands before returning. read more

I am going to have a hard time finding words to describe how good this place is. Looks can definitely be deceiving. From the road this place looks like a burger joint. The food however is amazing. The lobster, crab bisque was the best soup the 3 of us ever had. Our "small" bowls must have had a pound of lobster and crab in it. My son had the 6 cheese mac n cheese with lobster. They brought out this huge oval bowl of fresh pasta with freshly melted cheese and a crazy amount of bacon and huge chunks of lobster. I got the overstuffed lobster roll. I can honestly say out of the scores of lobster rolls I have had in my lifetime this was the biggest. I physically had difficulty eating it, delicious too. My wife had twin lobsters at an insanely low price. It came with the freshest and most crisp fries any of us ever had and very delicious caramelized summer squash. I know the pandemic is really hard for everyone, and try to be understanding, but tonight was the second time in a row that we've had REALLY slow service at Morrissey's. They just don't seem to have enough waitstaff to cover the dine-in customers; I get the impression that most of the staff are getting assigned to takeout. Upon arrival at 5:30 tonight, we stood in the reception area for quite a while before being acknowledged. After we were finally seated, our waitress took our drinks order right away and brought them promptly -- great! But we weren't ready to order our food yet and asked for just a few more minutes... and she disappeared. After waiting at least 15 minutes, we had to go looking for her. The salads came fairly quickly but it was a looong wait for the entrees. The food is always good but I think we'll stick to going there in the off season! read more

Yes this is my experience during quarantine- but it's not like I took a long time to pick it up and that's why it was soggy. I ordered it at the store and waited outside until they called my name. oh my gosh! What a delightful surprise coming upon this friendly immaculate family restaurant. Looking for a quick stop for a birthday drink we came across this place. Most other restaurants in the area were closed on Monday. Looking over the menu, we discovered an Octoberfest offered and opted for the sauerbraten, pork schnitzel, red cabbage, German potatoe salad, spaetzel, and a pretzel. This meal was fabulous. Was one of the best I have enjoyed. Have eaten at fine German restaurants and this topped them . I would strongly encourage you to try this German cuisine. You will not be disappoint. We stop here often, both weekdays and on Sunday. Food is consistent, plentiful, and very nicely prepared. Menu is quite extensive, with a very large selection of custom order burgers, which includes a variety of burger sizes, different rolls and toppings. Their lobster stew is delicious, and full of lobster, that is strongly reminiscent of the Boston recipe enjoyed by President JFK in the North End (sherry?!). I have a number of favorites here, including the lobster crab mini... I order two, along with my stew. Breakfasts are very hearty and good. Drop one star for tired decor that really needs a refurb, but the locals don't seem to mind. Seating is plentiful, but very tight. For those who need room, ask to be seated in the rear dining room. We made reservations for Mother's Day for a party of 5. I felt this was the best way to get us seated and served in a reasonable time. My mom and dad are 90 years old and mom suffers from dementia but loves to eat out. We arrived and there were several open tables and were seated right away. The hostess took drink orders and brought them soon afterwards. We took our time over the menus helping mom decide on her meal. But then over 15 minutes went by and no waitress. I stopped one and asked who our server was. She left and came back and explained they hadn't assigned us one!?! She'd find one. Okay. We got our order in shortly after that...then after another 35 minutes of waiting (and the place still had several empty tables) we asked about our order. "It will be out soon". Finally after over one hour of ordering partial plates were served to two of us. Another 10 minutes went by before we all had some food, then remaining sides came out. All entree's were luke warm. My son spoke to the waitress before she brought the bill to ask about comping or discounting the bill. She offered ice cream. No thanks. Finally her boss agreed to 20% off bill. We accepted it but would have liked the manager to come out and offer an apology too. We won't be back. read more

We are staying at a little motel next door and thought we would give this little joint a try for breakfast! It is a cute place with great selection for breakfast. We had the loveliest of waitresses, Courtney. She was friendly, playful and genuinely curious about my boyfriend and me. Food came fast and was yummy! Tried baked beans with my eggs and was pleasantly surprised by the sweetness of the side dish. The man had a breakfast sandwich which he said was "delicious." Absolutely shameful. The naked lobster rolls was a small handful of lobster which was NOT fresh, a tiny hot dog roll and literally two tiny leaves of lettuce. I fully understand that $26 is the going rate for a lobster (and i know how delicious a lobster roll can be) but this thing was a bad joke. There was no effort to make provide a good sandwich. Food was good, decent portion. $$ as expected for a tourist town in the summer. Our service tonight was odd. I ordered the French onion soup from waitress Bailey and then saw their Guinness beef stew came with soda bread, so I changed my mind (with waitress Bailey standing there). When the stew came out I didn't notice the lack of soda bread. So I started to eat the stew- delicious, and it took her a long while to come back to check on us. I thought maybe I miss read the menu, but she politely said oh ya it does come with it. 3-4 min later she came out with a warm soda bread muffin, and by then the stew was completely cold, so I asked her to warm it up, 3-4 minutes later she returned with my 1/2 eaten stew, barely warmer. I just shut up and ate it. When I was done I tidied up the empty bowl and empty water cup at the edge of the table nearest her when she returned. She brought the meal, never cleared the soiled dishes, asked if I needed more water and returned w a new full glass. And still never cleared the bowl and cup....now the table is small for a family of 4... she brought my daughter a small dish with corn on the cob, as her side, still never cleared dishes. And at this point, I'm just curious how long or if ever she'd take them. Ya I could have said something, but it was getting comical at this point. The kicker- when she returned and asked my daughter if she was done, she would clear the empty dishes, I'm thinking finally... she reached over my empty stuff and only took the corn dish. As she walked away I just looked at the empty dishes in front of me and then at my wife and we began just laughing. The kids meals came w ice cream and it wasn't until she came back with that and the bill, did she realize there was no room to leave the check. And the table was cleared. So Bailey if your reading this, your an adorable girl, with a nice demeanor but a terrible waitress. You need someone to train you better or you need to seek a new path in life. I've been to Bailey's many times over the years. It's an old standby. Something I always look forward to. On my most recent vacation, I made the required pilgrimage. I discovered the place is under new ownership, now Morrissey's. I'm not sure why they didn't keep the name, but I guess it doesn't really matter. My wife and I had a lobster roll with french fries and fried chicken with sweet potato fries. The lobster was fresh. I enjoyed the roll. The fried chicken was excellent -- among the best I've ever had. My wife agreed. And the sweet potato fries were delicious and perfectly cooked. The only improvement I could recommend is offering the option of real maple syrup (the maple-flavored corn syrup comes with the sweet potato fries). Real maple syrup is just so much better and would be worth an upcharge. The service was excellent. The staff was attentive, very friendly, and engaging. We'll be back! read more
