They also sell white cider which, if you're homeless or a student, may be quite tempting, coming in at only £1.50 for a litre and half. Be warned, however, this stuff ensues the hangover from hell. My mate bought some last year for a pre-drink and had to literally go for a lie down after just a glass because he felt so ill. Aside from this, Choices Express is a clean shop with a nice environment, which is always a safe bet for cheap essentials and friendly service.

The shop strikes me as being very empty. The shelves are sparsely populated. A group of us visited here part way through a booze up to get some snacks and most of us came out with the same thing. Ideal as the kind of place where you need to grab some essentials in a hurry, but little to make it stand out from the countless other little shops that do exactly the same in this area.

The guys that run the shop are great - always chatty and friendly. My main draw for here is the lunch time rolls for a little over a pound. Considering the chain places and coops etc can charge almost three pounds for a disappointing dry sandwich, this is a bargain. Nothing fancy just white rolls salad and whatever tempts you. They have bargain bins outside the shop which are always worth a browse. If you are passing pop in for a browse and a chat, you wont be disappointed.

I keep coming back because the price to quality is the best I've found anywhere. Sure I can spend the same or less at a grocery store but what I'm buying is almost never going to be as good as what I can get a Majestic. I (obviously) especially enjoy when they put our favourite wines on sale for crazy prices like £6.50 down from almost a tenner. Then we buy a (6 bottle) case. They always have wines to taste - 3 red and 3 white, I believe - which is great and often entices us into buying one or two bottles of splurge wines. It's nice to mix it up but even nice when you have been able to taste the wine and know you'll like it. My biggest complaint is that they don't have a larger Californian section (generally no larger than 6 bottles), and what they do have usually includes one or two wineries which blaspheme the Californian name. We never have any problem with finding 6+ bottles to buy because we have plenty of storage for wine and can't be bothered buying one bottle at a time. We aren't snobs, but we like wine. We like tasty wine and we like considering a bottle which costs over £9 to be a "splurge". Majestic ticks all the boxes for us.

One wine that has had my heart stolen for a while, is Cairn O'Mohr (care no more, get it? I'm not actually sure whether it's a play on words or not, but I'd like to think it is). This wine's made on the Black Isle (waaaaaay north in Scotland). And it's made out of delicious things like elderberries and elderflower and autumn and spring oak leaf! And it tends to confuse people, as they mostly don't think Scotland could ever produce anything wine-like. And the people who work at Peter Green's are the epitome of lovely. I immediately had no idea what wine to get, being bewildered by the choice, so had a bit of a chat with the owner who was more than happy to steer me in the right direction. I ended up very happy with my selection and after polishing it off later, even happier. This is a really good shop, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good bottle of wine. The staff have an extensive knowledge of the products they sell, and are happy to help out. I am no expert when it comes to wine but they were really helpful, telling me the breakdown of the grapes and what that means, as well as which wine complements certain foods. The beer selection is good as well; they have a few standard lagers but pride themselves on their ales and more unusual beers. My particular favourites are their Brewdog selection, including the amusingly named Tactical Nuclear Penguin, a 32% beer. The prices are reasonable, obviously depending on the quality of the wines, but are competitive with other wine merchants. Owing to the sheer knowledge and experience of the staff I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to replenish their stocks, whether for a quiet night in with a film or to be served in a dinner party.

It does have a good selection, especially when it comes to the foreign beers which are my main point of interest, and despite the slightly pretentious name it feels a bit less wanky than many of the other businesses on the increasingly nauseating Broughton Street. Deep down it is really just an offy though.
