I've been to Denver numerous times, but this was my first time visiting the Mother Cabrini Shrine, and I am so incredibly grateful a friend shared this spot with me. It is an absolute hidden gem, and this was certainly not my last visit! If you are planning a trip, here is everything you need to know to make the most of your experience. You can attend mass right here on the grounds, including a Sunday mass in Spanish. It was wonderful to see so many Spanish-speaking visitors gathering and enjoying the space. The shrine grounds are open until 5:00 PM every day, but note that the Stairway to Prayer closes at 4:30 PM, so make sure you budget your time wisely. If you plan to attend mass and fully explore, I highly recommend planning for about 3-4 hours here. Whatever you do, do the Stairway to Prayer! It is less than 400 steps in total. The first set will acclimate your lungs quickly (remember the Colorado altitude!), but don't give up! Along the way up, you will see the moving panels of the Stations of the Cross. Once you reach the top of the Stairway to Prayer, the stunning, panoramic views and the breathtaking Sacred Heart of Jesus statue are absolutely worth the effort. Near the base of the Stairway to Prayer, you'll find a natural spring water source. There are also restrooms conveniently located nearby, as well as a peaceful Remembrance Room right at the entrance of the Stairway to Prayer where you can purchase a prayer candle. The gift shop here is fantastic and filled with a plethora of religious items. A really cool feature is that you can purchase a container specifically for holy water right in the shop, and they have holy water available on-site for you to fill it up. Beyond spiritual items, the shop also sells delicious baked goods, ice cream, chips, and drinks--perfect for a post-climb reward! One final important tip is to not forget to bring cash! You will definitely want it for donations, purchasing candles, or buying treats and items at the gift shop. This place is peaceful, beautiful, and deeply moving. A destination of peace and you need not be religious or spiritual all are welcome! The history of Mother Cabrini Shrine will surprise you! On top of a hillside there is a 22 ft statue. It is about 365 steps to the top. The views of the surrounding mountains and landscape are magnificent! If you have time to walk the meditation path or enter the Rosary Garden it will give you a sense of inner calm. They have a place where you can drink holy water. There is a shrine chapel where you can light a candle or just have a moment of silence or pray. The shrine and grounds is all free to visit although donations are appreciated. There is a gift shop. Took our oldest granddaughter to walk the stairs, and get our Jesus on today. As always, such a beautiful sight. The stairs were a little slick, due to the overnight snow, so you have to proceed with caution. It had been an about a year since I had been up here, and it appears that they remodeled the gift shop, and it looks really nice and inviting. It's always so peaceful up here. However lately , the stairs remind me of my age, having to take a break a 3rd of the way up. I remember when I was younger, racing my cousins up the 373 stairs to see who got there first. Now, I just pray I don't run out of energy before I can get to the top. I just keep reminding myself, if Jesus can carry the cross up Mount Calvary, I can most definitely walk up 373 stairs to the top of the shrine. read more

My family loves coming here when they are visiting and am so glad that Mother Cabrini Shrine is a go to for us. Beautiful and spiritual place to free your mind and find peace. You do not have to be Catholic to come here. There is a gift shop and restrooms. Prayer areas and access to the Holy Water as well as other stations are available too. Really nice shrine and great hike to the top. Enjoyed the history lesson about Mother from the Franciscan brother and visitors have access to the miraculous spring on the property. Also can get a nice second hand relic (very small snippet from Mother's clothes.) read more

A Denver native took me here to see the view from the top of the mountain and it was fantastic. We were able to park really close and get in a great workout climbing the stairs. The stairs aren't really shoveled so be careful in winter. read more

Nov. 2016- A friend recommended visiting the Mother Cabrini Shrine as it's a historic, must see place near the outskirts of Denver. About 30-40min drive landed me up several mountains and on to the entrance of the site. Most of the sights and things are outdoors so bundle up accordingly. I went early afternoon on a weekday of November and it was very sunny and around 20 degrees. The site details the visits of Mother Cabrini during the early 1900s and later establishes a female summer camp. They'd have building activities and farming of live stock. Buildings were later erected such as The Grotto, The Stone House, The Convent. Many statues, stones and trees surround the shrines and at the highest point you can admire the views of the city of Denver at a tiny scale. Very peaceful site rich with history, if you find yourself in the area, this is a must see! read more

Very inspirational and picturesque scenery fill you with light hearted whimsy. A quick jaunt to the top of the mountain via the cement staircase you will find a very large statue and a overlook of the entire countryside. I've always wanted to visit even though I had no idea what it was. Came here for a day retreat and it was amazing. We used one of their conference rooms, it was very comfortable. They prepared us lunch which was quite tasty. The chapel is small, cozy and wonderfully done. The rosary garden was very pretty. The steps up to the Scared Heart of Jesus was a precarious being patchy with snow and ice. Minimal effort was made to clear some of the steps and unfortunately there were sections of the hand rails buried under snow and black ice. It's well worth the trek up even in those conditions. What a view from the top. They have a nice gift shop and clean restrooms. I want to go back as there were other sites there I was unable to get to. read more

I don't live in Colorado anymore but my family is still there, so every time I go home, Mother Cabrini Shrine is the first place I go. What a beautiful place! I'm so glad I took the time to stop here. The walk up the steps to the top was a bit strenuous considering I had just hiked around Red Rocks Park, but it was well worth the effort :) It was a nice sunny day, so I took tons of great pictures. The only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars is because of the employees at the register in the gift shop. This place is awesome, tranquil, Beautiful, rich in history... and you can be a Polish Jewish girl from NY, and still feel at home. ---Concerning the Gala: Note: What ever you do do NOT pick this for a charity and sit on the Committee. You will be Run off by the ill willed, who seems to be in Charge of the Gala- JoAnn Seaman. She is vicious.--- and not worth of an "outsiders time'. Perla is lovely. I have donated a lot of time and $ over the years to some charities-and NEVER experienced any likeness of her "sort". That is for sure. The Nuns are wonderful in the Order, as are the employees in the gift shop. The road up if fairly easy down needs, a "slo and go", approach during winter- just cause of ice. The drive is too easy- grab the 1-70 W- and follow the signs, when you pass the Buffalo's - you went to far. Turn it around at the old Kermits bar and go East. just follow the signs- it is worth the meditation and View of Denver, alone. read more

I grew up in Golden. I still love going to Mother Cabrini, now with my children. Joann at Mother Cabrini is the sweetest, most amazing person. To be in charge of the yearly Gala that pays for everything at the Shrine, is nothing short of amazing. She handled every responsibility with grace and kindness. We are so blessed to have the Shrine and such wonderful people selflessly running it. After all is not paid for by anyone other than the fundraising from the staff's efforts, and wonderful people who donate every year. So by all means plan your occasions at this beautiful serene place. I don't post a lot of reviews, but this time I had too. I can't imagine people posting anything other than loving messages about this healing place. I hope other people support this place as I do. Love and light to all. read more
