Although they start off nice the heavy sales tactics make you want to run out of there. If that doesn't put you off, just wait until they tell you the pricing. Yes, if they are truly handmade and the quality of the product that will ship matches what is shown then a higher than expected price is expected. But it's a gamble you take to buy a rug for 35k+ USD and hope it clears customs and arrives when you're told. Happy to say I was not suckered into this scheme. Sad to see as Turkey is full of amazing handcrafts and artisans that don't act like this and are truly invested in keeping their arts alive.

Like so many reviewers of this shop, we did not intend to buy a rug or carpet here: the prices are way out of line, and the salespeople put a lot of pressure on visitors to buy. We almost got out of there without buying, but, at the last minute, the one salesman (Ali, if I read the invoice correctly) offered a price that was decent. He said the rug would arrive in about 8-10 weeks and that the Barok representative, who often travels to the U. S., would contact us to set up a mutually agreeable delivery date. They reputedly wanted to ensure that we would be available for the delivery because the representative would show us how to wash the rug. The 8-10 weeks came and went. After 12 weeks, I sent an email message to the company, asking what was going on and when we were going to receive our rug. The answer was that they wanted to send as many carpets as possible in one order to the U. S. so they could take advantage of lower shipping rates. Finally, after about 15-16 weeks, the representative called us, and both parties tried to work out a delivery date. He wasn't going to be in town for the time period when we were available, so he said that he would contact us the next time he was in our area. A few weeks later, if I recall correctly, he called and said, "I'm dropping this rug off on Tuesday because I have to get rid of it." He did not ask if we were going to be home - and we weren't. Fortunately, we have very good friends, who came over to our home and put the rug inside to keep it safe. This representative has not contacted us since, and no one else from this company has contacted us since, about how to wash the rug. Because of the high pressure to buy, the poor communication about delivery, the lack of living up to their entire commitment to this purchase (no washing instructions), and their uncaring attitude about their customers, we will not buy from them again. Had we known the purchase would've proceeded and concluded like this, we would have not bought from them in the first place. We urge readers and potential buyers to learn from our experience.

Our guide talked this place up and claimed the Turkish government was investing in the dying art of rug weaving which allowed these merchants to offer free international shipping and the best prices around so buying and this "collective/co-op" would really be helping support the craftspeople in the area. When you walk in the show begins. They have you file into a room where you get to see the silk being spun off cocoons. They explain they'll show you the process from start to finish and walk you to their show room where they have an artisan set up in the middle of weaving. At this point they just emphasize they're happy you stopped by and are happy to treat you hospitably as they show you their products. They show you different materials and have you feel the rugs. Then they roll out carpets on carpets and start sizing you up. At the end of their presentation they have sales people walk up to you and they refuse to negotiate. They instead stick to their first price and continue to drone on about quality and labor. Imho if your tour guide/excursion takes you here, try to go off on your own at that point. Go enjoy the beach or just explore the city on your own.

If you are disable as in you can not walk you will miss out on the demonstration of the artists at work on the 2nd flood as there is no elevate. While you wait upstairs while they are setting up the demonstration, they give you little snack and tea to go with it. The negotiation for the price was easy and they can take all kinds of payment. I saw a nice blue rug that would look good on my wall. They will put in rings on the rug so I can hang the piece on my wall easily. They promise us that they will mail the rug to my when it is ready so I do not need to pay tax if I bring it with me back on the airplane. But it is scary as you don't know them and you pay thousand of dollars first already. But they are an authorize stop from the Viking cruise, they told me that if there is anything wrong I can always contact Viking for assistance. As of the time I published this review I am still waiting for my rug to come in.
