I've watched all the hype on social media and it kept coming on my pages for TikTok. So, I came, excited to try the food and meet Angel but he was out. I placed my order online for pickup. Surprisingly, the place was empty when we pulled in, but before leaving, the folks were coming in. I paid a total of $56.00 for the order. I specifically asked for my Russian dressing to be on the side, because I HATE it on my sandwich, and no cheeses. Guess what? Dressing on it AND on the side. The sandwich was just ok. They didn't listen to me (Angel's wife) when I said no dressing on my sandwich(at the window), and I had it under special instructions on my order. The deviled eggs, no seasoning at all! No relish no salt. It's a big fat NO. My hubby got a corned beef on onion roll with Swiss and mustard. He thought it was just ok. Now the egg rolls!? PERFECTO! I've never had a corned beef egg roll. I enjoyed it. All in all, this place isn't bad, but all the hype made it seem like it was extraordinary. I drove out of my way to come here. I won't do it again, but for those in the area it's good food. The ambiance is family friendly.

Excellent corn beef, the strawberry cheesecake tasted as if it had been in the fridge for a while or maybe frozen previously. This time 2 out of 4 sandwiches missing the pickle but I'm okay with that as it makes for soggy wet bag on the travel back home.

We ordered for the first time from here today. This is literally the best corned beef we have ever had out of all the corned beef places we have been to. The meat literally melts in your mouth. No chewiness or fat. You have a customer for life. Best ever excellent.

I didn't see anything spectacular about these sandwiches. I got a small just to taste it. One thing that they didn't do is toast the bread. Most corns beef come toasted. I also think that it was over priced.

You know it's going to be good when there are about 6 people waiting & they were only open for 30 mins!! I've been watching this place on IG and the opportunity to eat here finally arrived! It was a 10/10 for me! I wish they would open up one on the west side. Quick service. Quality meat. Hot and delicious. I would definitely take a trip east to eat here again. There is more on the menu that I need to try.

This is great! This is better than Bread Basket, Lou's Mr Corned Beef and all the coneys! The corned beef is flavorful, tender and doesn't have that little piece of fat you always get from other places. I ALWAYS get the XL on onion roll. The service is okay. The girl that takes your order is nice. Now we know the man/owner can be a bit much on social Media sometimes. A bit confusing for me lol but that's not "our fight". Unfortunately they close super early, so if you work days you'll probably never get to experience this. They close at 6. Of course lunch time is super busy. It's very small inside, so be mindful of that! It's takeout only! I've had a piece of pie from here and it was good too, nice big piece. The koolaid could be a little sweeter imo. Try it. You'll like it!

The lady who took our order was nice; however she forgot the mustard on my sandwich. My sandwich was the perfect temp, bread wasn't tough, very soft. The turkey was delicious. I ordered a small should have gotten a medium. The corn beef egg-roll was delicious. I loved it with the Russian dressing! He wanted pastrami and corn beef mix and they were out of pastrami. Overall delicious. Ambiance was that of a take out place. Clean though and warm.

Stopped by D Motown Deli after work yesterday. I hadn't been there in at least ten years. I went by because I saw a post of their IG page. The IG posts look amazing with giant juicy sandwiches. I'll get to what I thought of the food in a sec. What's exemplary is the staff, particularly the one at the counter how served me. I hate that I didn't ask his name, but it was clear that he obviously serves in a managerial capacity. He handled a major flow of customers and did not skimp on the integrity of the service he gave. He was friendly and super efficient. There is a good amount of food choices on the menu, all seemed to be priced reasonably. They offer a variety of sandwiches, egg rolls, desserts and side dishes. I ordered the humdinger, with corned beef, swiss and coleslaw. It was just ok to me. Mind you, I am a bit of a connoisseur of corned beef. I grew up on it and have eaten sandwiches at delis all of my life. I also ordered deviled eggs and potato salad. The eggs were good, but the potato salad - not so much. I didn't care for the flavor and the potatoes were hard. It was inedible. Nevertheless, I will return if I am in the area. The steady flow of customers and their many years of being in business lets me know that this was just an "off day".

Where is the food truck location. I'm looking for truck? I was there this past weekend and said you all are close for construction? How long are you going to be closed?

Couldn't wait to try it wish I didn't!

Couldn't wait to try it wish I never had!!! The driest corn beef ever. Got so sick after eating those damn corn beef rolls and a sandwhich. I contacted the owner never reached back out to me. Would never go back or recommend this place.

I can't believe the place is still here after all of these years. There are 2 types of subs here: Italian, and "Other Subs", so you know that this shop sprang from the vibrant Italian community that once populated Detroit. The Italian Subs at Gonella's are ordered according to how many layers it builds up (which I think is a unique concept). These layered Gonella Italian Subs are layered with a variety of Italian meats (Hard Salami, Salami Cotto, Mortadella, Smoked Ham and Capicola), provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions & Gonella's homemade dressing. Soft sub buns, tons of stacks of meat, lettuce and tomato or not. No one goes hungry after a sub here. Some deli spots tend to skimp on the protein, but not this place. My team members favorite is the Italian, 6 stacks. I usually will go for a turkey or chicken stack. They offer up to 18 stacks, haven't tried that yet.

The portion is huge and it's under $12. It's my favorite thing to get for breakfast in the entire city. Hygrade feels very much like a diner, and that's what I love about it. Like this isn't some spot for a brunch extravaganza. You can go here for a nice breakfast or lunch and eat in peace. I find it's an ideal place to get work done due to its low-key atmosphere. The waitresses are very attentive and quick, helped by the fact that I've never seen the place packed. I'm a sucker for old school Detroit and Hygrade just oozes that.
