Yep the wait was worth it. Not a lot of choices: gnocchi, panisse, a few ravioli flavors, fettuccine... but all they do they do fresh and it's outstanding. My favorite is their lemon and ginger raviolis which luckily for me is not a crowd favorite so they seldomly run out of that one. I have tried a few other fresh pasta stores in Nice but maison Barale is at the top, no question about it.

Aperitiv is a new kind of food business for Nice. It is the…read morecoolest little shop carrying items for the perfect picnic, soiree, gourmet snack, drinks with friends, etc events. I stumbled upon Aperitiv while walking through the neighborhood after being in the old Port of Nice. When I walked in, I was excited. There were shelves and shelves of wine, spirits. Barrels of different kinds of olives which you could scoop up and self serve or pick up already prepared packages. There was a display case with different types of cheese and charcuterie. There were eating accessories that you might need like plates, napkins, bottle opener. I chatted with the man behind the counter and I found out he was the co-owner of the shop (and a former management consultant who had worked in Paris but had returned after several years to his home region of Nice). He and a management consultant colleague had decided to open this venture and had only been in business for a short time. They had taken over a year to choose all the items they wanted to stock in the shop.What a delight. I asked him if he had a sweet wine in a small bottle. Unfortunately, he only had sweet wines in regular sized bottles which are a little too much for me to drink. After a bit of nosing around though, he recalled that he had an opened bottle of ice wine available for sampling. He whipped out a small glass and gave me a taste for free. It was delicious!!! I ended up buying some lovely goat cheese and some delicious charcuterie which he sliced on the machine and packaged himself. Really hands on service here. Also to note: his shop supplies or advises on the wine for the little restaurant opposite the entrance of the store across the street. So if you want to try some wine that they sell, you just have to pop over to the restaurant and check out the selection there. What a great find: a food entrepreneur who wants to evolve the food scene in Nice. At the same time I also support the traditional way of going to a particular shop focused on particular products (say all cheese, all bread, whatever). I think both can co-exist happily. However people can deliver food to consumers to make it less intimidating and more available, I totally like that. And you'll love Apertiiv once you experience it yourself.

Dad loved it so much, he even took one extra on the last day to take her back. Charcoal Baguette - VERY creative! I wanted to try this one as soon as I saw it and glad I got to. It is more like normal bread but it was really cool. Viennese baguette - It was kept right next to the brioche and other pastries at the front instead of by the other baguettues. It was really soft and delicious! We thought it might be hard because it was a beget but this was actually soft and nice. Perfect for a sandwich! Rookie - This was a croissant cookie mashup. I had tried the original croissant cookie from the store in Paris but this one was much much better! Cookie spot was actually crispy and went really well with a croissant. It was the perfect balance of cookie and croissant and the cookie wasn't too sweet either. A really good one. Croissant - This was nice but I would recommend asking them for the hot ones that just came out of the oven. The first day we got one that had been on the display so it had got a little soft and not as crispy by the time we had it. Macarons - They have so, so so many flavors that you can see as you're entering the bakery. And really creative flavors as well! There was stuff like guacamole and salmon as well with those seemed a little too adventurous. Mojito flavor was the best one! Pistachio was also really delicious. Also tried the Pina Colada and the Mango Ginger b Both were good! Pain au Raisin - Good size and the right amount of raisins in there as well. It wasn't as crispy because we got one of the display ones that had been out for the bits. So if you have a chance to get a fresh one that would be perfect! Mushroom and Goat Cheese Quiche - I really want to try the quiche Lorraine but 2 days in a row and they didn't have it so I asked for this one instead. This was okay; Good balance of goat cheese and mushroom and the egg mixture but I think it needed a little bit of something extra so I added some ham to it on my own. Sausage Puff Pastry - This one was basically like sausages and Dijon mustard inside the pastry. Good size, and mot too bad tasting, but not one of my favorites.

Expensive, but we get what we want and it is still less expensive than going to a restaurant for the similar quality of food. Ambiance - Again, one of the largest Monoprix in this area. Upscale. See pictures. We actually opened a loyalty card to become a member to take advantage of the discounts. Message me if you have questions. Service - Self service. It was overwhelming. I spotted the fridge section that has beurre. But I wanted to check out other food items and snacks they had. But with all the people in there, I gave up and went back to the butter section. They have several brands but not the brands I was looking for. They didn't have a variety of flavors either. Their main business is chocolate, but this is an awesome exception. The staff is very friendly and even helped me with packing macarons in tupperware containers for safer transport on my trip back home (which they came back in little to no damage) What makes a macaron delicious is the combination of the bite - the cookie and the filling, both of which Au Palais excels at. All of their flavors were delicious and the colors were beautiful. I really hope that when I return to Antibes for a visit, Au Palais is still there because I cannot wait to get my hands on a large Nutella maracon!
