Plus, they're an open and affirming congregation, so it's a really diverse group. The worship service is usually meaningful, if a little long and disorganized at times. They do a lot of service work in the community (shelter, food pantry), so there are plenty of volunteer opportunities if you're looking for a way to donate your time. I think there's only one service right now, starting at 11 AM, but I get the feeling that would change if the place grew. While such a late start time is somewhat of a bummer, one advantage is that it's a great segue into the brunch hour in a part of town with killer restaurants. If you do that, you basically have to make a day of it. Finding a place of worship is all about the right fit, but Old First seems to be the type of place that wants to meet a lot of different people's spiritual needs. I like it.

Stone and wood, kinda cold if you know what I mean, but the stained glass is amazing and beautiful. Has the main chapel above, with the daily mass chapel underneath. It has a low ceiling and is pretty amazing itself. Look back at the interior front as you enter. We attended for a few months in 2022. Padres and services were ok-to-good. Attendees across the Philadelphia spectrum, with several young families, students from Penn and only a few oldies. Low attendance. Never close to being even 1/4 full. We were there during a refurbishment fund drive and it was a little overwhelming a few weeks, way to much emphasis, again, if you know what I mean.

They also do a speedy confession behind a velvet curtain if your mom is giving you massive doses of Catholic guilt for not going to confession before Easter which is the very next day.

My son is a member here and has been attending for several months. He asked me to join him and I finally got a chance to. I was pleasantly surprised, because I had heard and read negative things about this denomination. . . The space is a like a home and is very low key / laid back. No flash or over the top, "mic'd up" preaching. Also, and THANK GOD - nothing near "cult like," that I feared! I was greeted by several friendly folks and my son gave me the "ten cent tour." I really enjoyed the company of the parishioners who I met. The service opened with some hymnals and then some preaching. The one woman, Grace, gave a lovely sermon that resonated with me. I'm actually going to practice something that she spoke on / suggested. I'm not sure, but think Communion is only given once a month. I prefer weekly. My son often stays for Bible study that happens afterward. (That's way too much for me!). I'd go back but am not looking for a new church home at this time.

(over 4,000 members) The Pastor is genuinely concerned with the spiritual growth of his members. There are too many ministries to name but the Youth ministry, Women's Ministry, College & Career Ministries are a few. Also, there is a Cell Group ministry. This is basically small group Bible studies during the week; this is in place to make sure that no one gets lost in the large crowd. Definitely a great place to go if you are concerned about your spiritual development and want to hear teaching from the Bible.

I get a very warm and welcoming feeling from the clergy, and the sermons have been an inspiration during these dark days. I've attended in-person services a few times now, and it is impressive how much the leadership team here values safety precautions while also making sure the public has access to the sacraments and sacred worship.
