This is said to be the deepest natural spring on the north island. The spring flows from a deep…read morerocky hole at the head of the river which flows out into lake Rotorua. The spring is about 1km easy flat walk down a track from the carpark through a grove of redwoods and following the stream. The water is cold and refreshing (bring a bottle and fill it from the source!). This is a department of conservation parkland area so no there are no costs. There are signs around the site describing the history of the area and facts about the spring. Swimming is not permitted here, but you can swim where the stream enters Lake Rotorua - the water is pretty cold though! Well worth a look if you are passing by, and only a short drive out of town (15-20min) if you aren't passing by.

The two springs here are fascinating in different ways - I could have spent ages just watching the water rising out of the earth, and the dancing sands made me smile a lot. The views across Lake Rotorua on the other side of the road are good too. Definitely worth a visit in my opinion and I will be going back again when I am next in NZ.

It is located in the suburb of Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. The Peninsula is narrow, and on the other side is Pilot Beach facing the Bay of Plenty with calmer waters. We came for a visit on a Sunday in mid April, and the beach was being enjoyed by locals, competing in a team obstacle course competition. But even then, there was a ton of open space for beach lovers, with the wide sandy beach providing just a gorgeous backdrop. It truly is a picturesque beach.

It seems like you could spend a full day here pretty easy. Do a little hiking in the morning and be rewarded with a great view of the beach and bay, then relax on the beach all day. The sand is very soft and perfect for footsies. There's also bike baths and paved walking trails offering something for everyone. There's quite a few restaurants and ice cream places just walking distance from the beach in case you get hit by the hungries throughout the day. I was also really impressed to see the water bottle refilling stations to help keep you hydrated. The day we were there we saw a lot of surfers out and the water was pretty rough. I imagine this is a better beach for laying out on rather than for swimming. Pretty incredible area though, wish I lived next to it!

Absolutely!…read more We came at the very beginning of August, which is winter in NZ, and we were a little worried about how cold we were going to be. I think I it's the best time to go! There was one other party of two there, so check in was super quick. The changing rooms had heaters in them, which was so nice! And they have hot tubs at the top and bottom of the hill for you to jump into. We did the package with two rides. The straight down, and the one with the switchbacks. We were given the option of going in our own balls, or going together. We opted to ride together for both and I'm glad we did! There is water inside the ball with you so you do NOT flip over head over heels, it's like a hamster in a ball. You stay upright. They let us bring our phone inside and we recorded our second ride and watching the video back is so freaking funny. The staff were all kind and helpful and we had the best time!

It was offered as a tour excursion by Royal Caribbean. We took the catamaran on Lake Rotoiti and stopped at the Rotoiti Hot Pools. The catamaran was in perfect condition. I immediately wanted to sit on the net in the front..get this--they have bean bags to sit on and blankets as well! We were gliding on Lake Rotoiti and the weather was amazing this day. The hot pools were nice and well-maintained with changing areas and bathrooms. I didn't see any extra staff there. For a medium-sized group from a cruise ship, there were enough pools to lounge in ranging from cool to medium-hot to very hot. There's also a small water slide! On our way back to the resort, we had gourmet sandwiches. There's also coffee and tea. You have to pay for other drinks. I am juice lover and it would have been nice if the cruise offered some complimentary sugar drinks..I mean apple juice or lemonade. Hey man-I'm spoiled by the cruise! By the way, we had four At Sea days from a stop in Melbourne, Australia all the way to Tauranga, New Zealand. This was not in the original plan as we were going to go to South New Zealand. BUT...this excursion was worth it!

This one is a beautiful staircase waterfall that you can find off one of the side roads along the…read moreKarangahake Gorge. Pull into Waitawheta Rd and park alongside the slope as we did. Look out for the hidden tunnel downhill track enclosed by trees and green on both sides down to the waterfall. You can sneak a peak at the water as you make your way towards it. Only takes a few minutes each way- wonderful if you aren't feeling like doing a long or too intensive walk. Has a medium sized pool at the bottom for swimming but be careful as some parts are quite deep. Even climbing down to the rocks there is quite a few slippery spots. Continues down a stream towards the Karangahake. Quite cool water when we went and lovely to float in. There is bush around to sit and little pockets for changing if you aren't already in your gear. Gorgeous fall- so easy to get to, definitely worth seeing

They then make sure to go through the basics of rafting and what to do if the raft flips over! It's a short 2 min drive to the rafting start point but once you're in the water it is so much fun! It has been raining pretty hard, but the whole experience was great! There were two shorter waterfalls and of course Tutea falls. It seemed intimidating, but our guide Elvis helped guide us and everything went great! They even got some good pictures of us! We even had the opportunity to get in the water and feel the rapids first hand! Overall great experience, would recommend to anyone looking for a thrill!

New Zealand is the land for adrenaline pumping adventures. Agroventures doesn't disappoint. They have 5 different activities, The Agrojet, (a raceboat that goes super fast) Freefall Extreme, (feels like you're falling through the sky) Swoop, (super swing) Shweeb, (race around a track in a pedal operated pod) and Rotorua Bungy. (Bungee jump) I went with a large group of mostly boys. They offer group discounts and combos if you buy 1 or 5 activities. Most of us did the Shweeb, though some did the other crazy activities. The Shweeb is unique and the only one in the world as of now. You are placed into this pod-like contraption and race your opponent by pedaling the pod to race around a track. It's not as easy as it looks or sounds! I don't have the speed or stamina like teenage boys! I had a great time at Agroventures and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an adrenaline rush!

Such an incredible experience going vertical down a waterfall and then completely submerging underwater afterwards. The guides are hilarious and have amazing energy - you can tell that they love their jobs! We had never been white river rafting before so we had to try this. I think it was even more fun than the Nevis Swing in Queenstown. You are going over so many waterfalls, jumping into the water and floating down the river. There was one point were we stood up on the raft and then went over a waterfall. Our guide said that a group of 7 guys were in our same boat the day before and none of them new how to swim. The raft capsized on the largest waterfall and they all fell out of the boat. They were all fine thanks to the life jackets and the guide. You have to pay extra for the photos but it was completely worth it. I would recommend bringing a gopro and the head piece attachment. They have the helmets but I forgot the attachment so I couldn't bring my gopro. They don't allow the gopro sticks so don't bring that. Just bring your swimsuit, towel, and a change of clothes.
