Sunnymead Farm Boarding Kennels & Cattery

After leaving my two young 10 month old healthy cats here for 5 days during the busy August…read moreholidays, I returned to collect them, thinking it was nice that they were escorted into their baskets ready for me (I would normally do this) and that I was given most of their food back? The cats cried all the way home and one urinated in its basket which I thought was bizarre. The journey back is about half hour and when I returned home I immediately noticed that one had a 2 inch nasty wound on it's back ankle I contacted my vet and booked an immediate appointment. The Vet confirmed she had an infected 2 inch wound and a high temperature. They said the injury had happened over 24 hours previously hence the temperature, infection and puss. It was discussed that the cat must have been accidently trodden on as it was too large a wound for it to be a simple cat scratch. When I returned home I contacted Sunnymead (about an hour after me collecting the cats) to let them know what's happened and whether they knew anything? The lady said she knew nothing and she would look into it and call me back. I never got that call, so the next day I contacted them again and was told by the same lady that they had checked the cage and there was nothing to suggest any injury. She said that my other cat could of hurt her to which I disagreed. She then said it must of happened when I brought them home after (considering I didn't ring her until an hour after collecting them) which I thought was a stupid thing to say!. I asked why they had not noticed her not eating as surely this would of triggered alarm bells and treatment could have been given? she said it's quite common that cats don't eat their food. I said the injury had happened whilst in their care and that they have Pet Plan insurance which would cover my vet bills. She then said that I would need to prove it! and that she would get her Manager to call me. 2 days later the Manager left me a voicemail message to say "sorry to hear your cats have had a 'spat' - these things can happen etc. etc." The wound wouldn't heal properly with the antibiotics and after around '3' further visits back to the vets and £200 later, I was told that the infection was in the bone as it was a deep injury and so I was given further antibiotics for the bone, they told me if the cat didn't respond to further treatment then they would need to operate on her. The bone infection did heal eventually. I can understand that it was an extremely busy period during the summer holidays but when you put your animals into care then you are placing your complete trust in those people to look after them and see no harm occurs. It doesn't matter how the injury happened, the matter of the fact is that it should have been noticed and treated. I am disgusted by what has happened, firstly that my cat was injured in their care, then neglected, secondly that I was made to feel like a liar. I would never recommend this cattery to anyone. I think there are not enough staff looking after your animals and they can get neglected.

Well don't I feel the fool! I just came to review Carry Boarding Kennels to make sure potential…read morecustomers are aware of what to expect, only to see that across the web there are already lots of negative reviews!! I'm now left feeling like a rubbish dog mum, for not doing proper research before handing him over. I'd been happy with what I saw on the website, but obviously that wasn't enough. Here I go... whilst my husband was dropping our dog off, I noticed that I hadn't given him the vaccination booklet!! Worrying that he'd be sent straight back home I quickly called to see if I could send a photo of the book. I was surprised to be told by the kennels that my husband had successfully handed over our dog and was on his way back home. He hadn't been questioned about the vaccinations at all. The person I spoke to wasn't concerned & took the details over the phone, but seemed to do so to humour me. Again, more fool me because I really should have pushed this more at the time. My husband told me that he wasn't able to see where our dog would be staying & was just told 'that's it', with no details or questions about our dog asked. On the day of collection I took my young son & was met by a very abrupt and unwelcoming gent, who had no idea who my dog was. He disappeared behind a gate & told us we weren't allowed to follow him. He eventually returned with my rather timid looking dog. This is completely out of character for him!!! He was also wearing just his lead (no collar or harness), fastened as a choker around his neck with the handle. This is pretty concerning given that he's a pug & should only have a lead attached to a harness. So then it's time to settle up and trying to be considerate, I had taken the exact change... £28 - that's 4 days at £7 per day, as per the pricing details on the website. I've attached a photo for proof. I'm then told that it's actually £8.50 per day & that, 'it has ALWAYS been that much'. I mentioned that I got the price from the website & the owner said, 'well that has nothing to do with us, Yell run the website.' I advised the owner that I only had the exact change on me, in response she rudely snapped, 'ok, I will accept it, but don't you ever bring your dog back here again!!' I was pretty shocked & again mentioned the pricing on the website & told her to bring it up on her computer so that she could see what I had seen. I didn't want her to feel like I was swindling her. She then said, 'well Yell knew our prices had gone up! It's not even supposed to be on there.' That's not what she'd said moments before! So as I was leaving I advised her to get someone to take a look at the site and remove the incorrect details so it couldn't happen again... her response, yet again, 'Ok, but you're never bringing your dog back here!!' Charming!! I wouldn't have anyway, but it feels pretty rubbish to have been banned from a local kennels because they couldn't be bothered to keep on top of their website.
