This is a…read moresmall 50 room hotel on land owned by the Valley Forge Bible College in Phoenixville, PA just off of Valley Forge Rd. We know it by the name: Conference Center at Valley Forge. This is a wonderful place for families, corporate retreats, non-profit groups, & school groups. This is a place that hasn't forgotten the essence of what hospitality truly means. Sadly, my sister died in January. She was a popular choir director and her school held a memorial concert in her honor. I needed to find a hotel for about 20 family members to stay during the concert weekend. I also wanted a facility where we could have our own memorial service before the concert, as well as host a small brunch for about 40 people. We are a group of fairly progressive Jews. I really was not sure a conference center in the middle of a Christian bible college would be the right place for us, but I was equally sure that we wanted a quiet, modest place where friends and family could gather, celebrate the life of my sister and spend lots of good quality time together. So I called the folks at The Valley Forge Conference Center (which is now professionally managed by Sodexho) and they convinced that we would be comfortable there. Our weekend at the conference center was exactly what I had hoped it would be. The facility has lots of comfortable common area space where friends and family could gather, hang out, talk and drink coffee and tea. There is a living room space in the lobby, as well as a cozy cafe space on the lower level, which we used several times for breakfasts and a big chinese food dinner which we ordered in from a local chinese restaurant. There is also a game room lounge on the first floor with pool table, foos ball table and big screen tv. The rooms are not perfect and could use some more attention. While they are clean and comfortable, they need lot's of little things like hooks in the bathrooms, bathroom sinks with a vanity and counter space, better bedding (especially better blankets on the beds,) and more lamps for lighting in the rooms. None of the rooms have tv's and I believe most lack desks as well. The hotel does have free wifi everywhere - perhaps not fast enough to stream movies - but it was perfectly adequate for everything else. The other big item in the room - is that the shower heads are very water-flow restrictive. I'd like to urge the staff to consider installing a less-restrictive shower head as it is a major comfort issue when staying somewhere. With all that said - at less than $100 per room per night we felt this hotel was a good value. What was perfect and is far more important than any of the above - is the hospitality on the part of the entire staff. These are people who understand the value of "Yes". It is a concept far more expensive and sophisticated hotels try to teach their staffs. Here it seems intrinsic, natural and sincere. They basically said "no" to none of our requests, and clearly strove to make our every moment in their facility comfortable. Philip & Derek (Conference Center managers) were constantly making sure we had everything we needed, but also just let us do our thing. They were generous, kind, understanding and helpful throughout. They truly get the essence of hospitality and we appreciated their professionalism throughout our stay. Please consider this place if you are hosting any sort of family event, or group retreat. For some events - the lack of an alcohol license here might deter you - but don't let it. Go down the street to one of the many restaurants for a beer or a glass of wine. Come here for the comfortable accommodations, warm gathering spots, and genuine hospitality. We are very glad we did.

I warn her that when the whole wedding thing is…read moreover there is not much to do that I know of in Wilmington on a Sunday (looks like the old Blue Laws are still in effect) so we are not going to spend the day up there sightseeing, the city is just a tiny bit larger than Rockville. The Church is open though and very receptive to the wedding party and guess. Everything was running well the pastor presented the invited guess with a very nice not too long ceremony along with some humorous antidotes. The church is of typical mid century mod design, it was built in 1965 nothing fancy but well kept and it serves it's real purpose looks like it can hold a couple of hundred people. No it is not a mega stadium sized church on steroids just a nice small more intimate place for the local populace. This is what makes things nice cause everybody knows everybody there by name and history. Very family oriented and warm to us outsiders. They have an auxiliary building in which the reception was held. Apparently this is a multi purpose room with cinder block walls for everything from basket ball to a event room complete with kitchen and food prep area. However this being a old school church (remember 1965) there was no air conditioning in there so it was hot as hel.. oopps sorry... it was very hot in there. Still the community member church was able to continue the celebration of the newlyweds there to allow everything to continue without too many hiccups in spite of the heat. Note: you also need a real sound system in there not just a boom box hooked up to a couple of small speakers in addition to a air conditioner unit. Outside of these two structures lies a barn with a really BIG black walnut tree beside it, that was dropping nut bombs right and left. So that was the highlight of our visit to Delaware beside the wedding of course. We gathered a lot of black walnuts after the whole thing was over. I'll use them to make some black walnut ice cream.

Christ Lutheran Church is a church located on Mainland Road in Kulpsville Pa. While I have…read morepersonally never been here for any church services, there is another reason this church holds many memories for me and that is because this is where my weekly Boy Scouts meetings were held when I was a member of Troop 178. Needless to say, so many memories came from within this church and on the grounds. Meetings held in various rooms on both levels of the church, games played all over the grounds, activities, parties you name it! This church even hosted my Eagle Scout ceremony in the church area, which was awesome!! (Also if you are at the church and you see a trailer with the names of the eagle scouts of Troop 178 on the back look me up). This church has also hosted Indian Valleys SAVE organization's electronic recycle day in the past which I love going to as well. No matter what, if you attend here for church, boy scouts or the community events, there's no denying it's a great church and one worth a visit in the future.
