Mountain Eagle Karate Academy is amazing! We were looking for a way to involve our 4 year old son in an activity that would challenge & encourage him both physically and emotionally. Being totally unfamiliar with karate, we weren't sure what to expect. MEKA was exactly what we needed. The owners (Mark and Anna) are so gifted, not only in their skill and expertise in the martial arts and the Shuri-ryū style of karate, but also in the way they communicate with, build confidence in, and train the younger generation. And their joy in teaching even the littlest kids is tangible. MEKA's focus on self-discipline (achieved through homework/training cards that encourage completing chores, reading, & practicing karate), trust, and respect is coupled with an understanding that as soon as the students bow into the dojo, it is a time for training, not goofing-off. Perfect! Exactly what we hoped for. Our son has now been with MEKA for a year and has had such a great experience and learned so much. There is no doubt that MEKA has opened a path for him to learn new life skills that will make it easier for him to grow into a more caring, respectful, and responsible young man. And it's not just for him-- as a parent, I can vouch that the values emphasized at MEKA (focus, trust and respect) translate easily into applications as parental tools. (WWSD= What Would Sensei Do?) While our son is in the younger age group, this dojo is not just for the wee ones. MEKA has trained some leaders in the craft, and their teenage and adult students are often winners of major karate tournaments and championships. And while these highly skilled students are fun to watch, what's also impressive is how much time they're willing to spend with the younger students to teach and train them. My son and I started at Mountain Eagle Karate Academy in 2013 and it was probably the best thing I've ever done for myself. I was in my mid-40s and very overweight. It turned out that starting karate was the activity I'd been looking for to get into shape. Before long I'd dropped 85 lbs. and was in the best shape of my life. On top of getting healthy, Mountain Eagle has a fantastic, extremely supportive community and we've made many great friends. My son and I have since earned black belts, but more importantly, we've learned awesome skills and lessons that will stay with us for life. I can't say enough good things about Mountain Eagle Karate!! My son has been attending for the last 3 years and he has gained not only karate skills but also life skills that translate to everything he does. There really is an amazing sense of family at the dojo and all ages and skill levels can feel included in this family. There are numerous classes involved for various age and skill groups and rotate between karate basics, sparring, jiu jitsu, weapons, kata, etc. The instruction from owners Mark and Anna is first rate and there are numerous others that assist in training as well. A great dojo for anyone- MEKA has fantastic leaders and fantastic programs for people of all ages. Our son has been going for about a year and has advanced, recently switching to a more advanced program. The Sensei's are kind and the kind of leaders that encourage growth and development on a personal level. My son is a self starter and self disciplined after having been a student at MEKA. They teach self discipline and personal responsibility, which is great for children. My kid is a different kid because of MEKA. I'd highly recommend them!! read more

Our daughter started here this summer and absolutely loves it. Sensei Anna is incredible with children. She has wonderful classroom management skills and is able to get all the kids to focus without seeming strict or harsh. The classes are so fun that the children don't realize they're learning self-confidence, how to be respectful, and self-defense all at the same time. Our daughter is very shy and the class structure is really allowing her to come out of her shell. Would highly recommend! read more

My daughter started at MEKA karate a year ago. She has always been pretty shy and takes a while to engage when trying something new. The MEKA staff took her in and helped her grow. I love that the focus is not just on learning karate but improving overall. They are so great at communicating and are super supportive. MEKA is really the best thing we have done for our kids. Not only are they learning the amazing art of karate by the best instructors, but they are learning responsibility, discipline, confidence, respect and life skills. This Karate school is one of the first for my daughter. She wanted to try out Karate in late October. While she was at school I was surfing Facebook and found an advertisement for this dojo. I think it was fate. I'm so comfortable here when I watch my daughter practice Karate. Sensei Anna is great with all the kids. She is very patient. I highly recommend this dojo. This was one of the best decisions we made this summer. We found an ad on Facebook for MEKA and wanting to keep my daughter active during the summer, we gave them a chance. I love that they incorporate self discipline and hold the kids accountable to doing things at home to help and always being kind to others.
