I wish I could give this dump a 0 star rating. I went to this school between August and early December. I left after some girls I guess created a fake report that I love school shooters and they are my hero's which is false. The reason I think they said that was because I hate taylor swift with a burning passion. The next day at like 9:30 PM the school police came to my house and searched my room. They kept delaying my meeting until I think Thursday the next week. They had school police there and they had to pat me down to make sure I didn't have a weapon. The school kept saying I was a monster and crap like that. I am furious while I'm writing this and I don't want to be doing this but it must be done. Most of the teachers are abusive to my needs I have autism and thought I was a stupid person. The force you to play a instrument and make you play cult like games and make you sing creepy cult like songs. I want you to know if you are planning to send your kid to this school please think about if it's the best fit. If your child doesn't fit in the schools cult like plan then please don't send them. Thank you for reading this and I hope you think twice before sending your child to this cult like school. I attended this school from second to eighth grade and, in comparsion to my new classmates, I feel like that the education here was behind. When I was in first grade i did quite well academically and socially, but I feel that after attending this school I noticed that the curriculum was significantly behind, in subjects like math. I felt that the math taught in 8th grade stuff you should be learning in sixth grade compared to what a LOT of other schools offer. I understand that this is a waldorf school with a different education but i found it very dissapointing. A lot of my time here at this school was spent on extracurricular events rather then our academics. I remember when we were forced to go to an event my friend was harshly disciplined for not wanting to sit in a chair at an event. Despite other students doing the same. This showed me that there was some inconsistency in their disicpline was enforced and their rules. My entire friendgroup was targeted and i understand why, we were all troublemakers and did not really listen to them. But why were we simply not allowed to stand? This school's focus on "Saint Michael" and related traditions was weird taking a cult like feel. Taking up most of our time in elemntary and middle school. Instead of focusing on academics. There was also an event called "may fair" where we had to participate in dancing around a pole with ribbons instead of learning. This is an odd tradition and a waste of time. Discipline wise, there was obvious biases. If a student had history of trouble like myself, they were treated more harshly then others. The school lacks proper elective options, especially during your elementary and sixth and seventh year. You're stuck with certain classes that do not help you in any way. one being "handwork" You cannot explore other interests in elective until 8th grade which you can only do twice a week via a block schedule. Even then those options were limited. Creativity was limited and it made me feel like I had little to none career choices in my future. There was only one counselor for over 300 students. It may be different now because i no longer attend that school but it made it very hard to get support when needed. Overall I felt that as if this school doesn't take its student safety very seriously. There were few security measures in place and the school lacked proper surveillance in hallways previously. It now has better surveillance. It was easy for anyone to enter the campus. Which made me concerned for everyone's safety. The school has many flaws and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone looking for a good education. read more

I am incredibly thankful my children have this school to attend. This is the second year we have been with Mountain Phoenix and my kids are absolutely thriving. The teachers are supportive and incredibly kind. One of my kids has adhd and he thrives in this setting. There is hands on learning, more outdoor time, no screens. It seems they really value the magic of childhood here, and care about the whole person. read more

-My kids were bullied by kids and adults. A teacher's child caused problems from day one. Eventually they ended up bringing a knife to school and scratching up a kid on the kid on the playground. -Staff members without certifications work with children. One staff members purposely caused power struggles with kids so they would react and get punished. The school consistently took the adults word even though multiple families were complaining about this person.  -Children's disabilities are questioned and mocked  -Children from affluent white families are preferred. This in turn means that any kid from this kind of family is untouchable because their parents had the means too sue.  -Consequences vary widely on demographic and disabilities.  -Students stay with the same teacher through the lower grades. In theory this should be an amazing situation unless you get a sub par teacher. The school refused to move my child to a new class.  -Kids who aren't white, are disproportionately singled out. While their white counterparts get away with the very things the non-white demographic gets consequences for.  -The school constantly asks for money!   -The school has a cultish feel. Very similar to organized religion. Complete with weird rituals.  - They do not like critical thinking at this school especially when children are thinking critically and questioning adults. read more

I'm not a person who typically writes reviews but I felt compelled to write a review about Mountain Phoenix. While I'm sure there are students that have great experiences here, we did not. I found most of the staff and the atmosphere to be insincerely kind and authoritarian instead of naturally kind and inclusive. For us, the sales pitch was strong but the actuality was disappointing. If you have a child with special needs or one who thinks differently, I would consider if there is an option that may work better. On a positive note, I enjoyed my son's homeroom teacher. She seems to be an authentic person and that was refreshing because otherwise, It certainly seemed that appearances were more important than candor. read more

Do yourself and kids a favor and do not send your children here! Weird, everything here is weird. The teachers are awful and will try making you believe your kids are bad and then when you see the reality of what's happening on unexpected pop ups it's lots of uhs and back tracking. They know absolutely nothing about being supportive and helping kiddos who have IEPS and need a little extra help! Numerous things and sensory things could have been prevented had teachers not thought things were just a joke for them. 8 year olds listening to teachers boyfriend problems and then getting ignored and told to shut up while on her phone. They'll tell you anything and everything you want to hear to make the move but then completely change things once you're in. This place is literally a cult... This school has a bias to any and everyone who is not a female, gay, or an upper class white family. They had a pedophile working here for years and didn't even notice until the 8th grade girls at the time reported him attempting to get their personal phone numbers, even then they did nothing for weeks about him. They let students kill a baby goat and they GOT AWAY WITH IT (they even had a groupchat called "Goat Killers"). they're have been mulitple students getting bullied by kids in their grade, and in older grades yet the school just says "theres nothing we can do" becuase they didn't hear about it when it happened or the other student is just saying they didn't do it. They had a second grade teacher leave two years ago, so they put the designated singing teacher into her role, what did she do? She sang with them for over a semester, and once they realized that class had state tests the next year, they moved the 7th grade teacher down with them becuase she was the only teacher qualified for the role. Those kids didnt know how to read, or write! They always want money from the parents for everything, for the 8th grade trips they have the students fund raise, and if they dont meet their goal, well to bad you have to pay for the rest, same with new suplies. they have the same desks for years and only change them every few years. Their is a teacher there that used to be a 5th grade teacher, she was so bad at teaching the subjects she even got mad at the kids for not understanding her! Their were multiple kids who had to have math tutors for years becuase of her, then she moved to a "counselor" position. She still yelled at kids when they got in trouble and made them cry on numerous occasions (almost everytime she was alone with one). They advertise creativity, but their main lesson is just listening to the teacher talk about whatever subject they're in, then write it down on a main lesson page, some of those kids don't learn anything from this system! They seperate the special needs chilren from the rest in band/orchestra, its called "World Drumming", all of last year they learned one song while the regular kids learned a number of songs. My kids have been in this school for over three years and love it. It's not a regular school so don't come here if don't have knowledge of the Waldorf education. Definitely it's not for everyone so do your research first. The teacher are amazing with the kids and have a beautiful energy. read more

I joined this school in 2020. (Online learning) The school was already a mess as they would fail the students for not understanding the assingment. The new students also had no idea what a main lesson page was or is. When we would ask for help the teachers would shut us out and tell us to figure it out on our own. Now, I made a friend during online learning. She was my best friend until we went back in person. She started making drama as I was just trying to make the best of the rest of middle school. Until she started spreading lies to her friends. Made me very insucure about myself. I tried takig this to the counciler and they didnt even care or try to help me. The end of 6th grade happend as I had No friends. This girl ruined my life. Then 7th grade there was a guy who came up to the gate of the school. And the staff didnt even lock the gate. Pretty much invited him in for tea! If you have ever gone to this school im very sorry for you. The rest of 7th grade was OK till I got major deppresion and the school didnt give a shit again. This school has only money in mind. We enrolled my son at this charter school and the principle Dr Long assured us they had everything in place for our sons needs. His mother had three meetings with them and gave them all the information from his prior school. My son is twice exceptional and can get bored easily. They state they are Waldorf inspired but his teacher was not trained in waldorf and had no idea about my sons needs. They waited till after count day and had the state money and then told us they can't deal with him and threatened expulsion. No urgency was given to the matter untill after they were paid. No suggestions on how they were going to follow through on there promise of teaching my son was made. All Dr long cared about was filling her classrooms for count day and then she was more than happy to get rid of kids This place is just a money making buisness for the owners. They ask that everything be done and donated by the parents. There main focus seems to raise money through a ton of fundraisers and charging fees. Non of our money was refunded by this school. This was just evil to put a child through this. We are now having to search out a new shool for our son. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL!! read more

This place is amazing. My daughter is in Kindergarten and loves it. They are Waldorf inspired and are very close to the real thing. We sent another daughter to a private waldorf and Mountain Pheonix is every bit as caring and magical. I love this place. Once I found the main office I was completely ignored as administrators mulled around the desk. No one even acknowledged that a complete stranger had walked into their school. We've been at Mountain Phoenix for 3 years. As a former public school teacher of 10 years I love that this school addresses the whole child where they are at and in a developmentally appropriate way. From the play-based kindergarten to the beauty of the various arts being wrapped into everything in the grades it is a place where a child can be a child and be appreciated and respected as a child. My momma heart feels happy and content that my children's childhood is protected and safe while out of my care. I love that they want children to go home and play enjoying family time rather than work a "second shift" doing hours of meaningless homework. There's beauty and reverence throughout their day and a rhythm that helps a child feel at ease. The many events and festivals help build community! It's a good fit for what we want and value for our children. If you're questioning the push down of academics in mainstream education today it's worth checking out to see if it would be a good fit for your family. read more

DO NOT PUT YOUR CHILD IN THIS SCHOOL. I went here as a student for three years. I am now a senior in high school. Let me tell you, a student will not learn anything in this school. Their idea of a science class is simply putting a lit match in a five gallon jug, putting an egg on top and watch it get sucked in, then doodling it. They preach creativity, but your child will simply copy the drawing on the board. My math classes were simply doing fractions for three years, the Spanish classes are doing present tense AR verbs and nothing more. And now their dress code is so strict that it hardly qualifies as a true Waldorf school. You can't even express yourself with hair color or clothing (no neon colors, shirts with words, media, or logos, band shirts, no shaved hair, no dye). The theatre department is barely mediocre. Your child will not be prepared for high school or be able to be successful with AP or honors classes. I had to get a lot of extra help my freshman year all because MPCS seemed themselves too artsy to have legitimate math or science classes. Don't waste your time. It's not reformative or special. It's barely a school at all. It's more of a daycare for kids of all ages. read more

We can't imagine sending our kids anywhere else! From the play-based Kindergarten that allows kids to be kids, to the grades where they respect and acknowledge each child and teach in a way that is not "to the test", we love every aspect! One of our kiddos has special needs and we've been more than happy with their programs and special therapies that are not available at any of our neighborhood schools. We love this school. Yes, there are occasional struggles, as is true with any relatively new school. Yes, there are fundraisers and donation requests - charter schools have to maintain all their own facilities without school district money. But this school offers strong, welcoming community for families. Its focus on nature, arts, internal life, character-building, childhood simplicity and relationship gives kids a different experience than is found at many schools. The incredibly connected teachers are not only building academic knowledge, but are intent on helping students develop into curious, confident, capable and compassionate human beings who have a hunger to learn and the tools to truly contribute to the world. read more
