The stone wall that surrounds the cemetery was erected in memory of Major John Davidson, a signer of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, May 20th, 1775, and his wife Violet Wilson Davidson and their descendants. Erected by Edward Lee Baxter Davidson. Homestead built 1788 and burned 1886. All of the graves have dates from many years ago. The tall obelisk denotes the final resting place of Robert Davidson, 1769-1853. Next to it, John Davidson, 1735-1832 and Violet Wilson who signed the Resolutions to Committee of Safety in 1776. From the time I was born until my rebellious fifteenth birthday I went to church here. Several times a year I visit the graves of family and church folks who were instrumental in my Christian upbringing. There are 799 documented burial sites here. The folks who were laid to rest at this place have an indelible place in my memory and heart as I knew a lot of them. Cherokee Creek Baptist Church is doing a wonderful job!

A lot of the inscriptions on the headstones are badly worn and difficult to read. There's a couple of benches on site to relax on and contemplate things. Not many people visit here but occasionally a few do. Michael Gaffney was born in Ireland in 1775 and died here September 6, 1854. He was 78 years old at the time of his demise.
