Cafe is cute! When I googled a cafe nearby, this one showed open before all the others. I ordered a simple latte - sugar free vanilla with oat milk. I patiently waited for it to cool down since I enjoy my coffee warm, not hot. I took a sip, HOLY SH*T. How will I ever go back to Starbucks? Best tasting oat milk latte I've had in my entire life. Stopped at this shop today to get a snack as we were headed to Felton. Friend and I both ordered their burrito(potato, egg, sausage). Normal looking burrito until I took my first bite! It appears to me that these burritos are not made fresh but seem like they are frozen and then heated up. The texture of the tortilla was hard on the corners and tasted like it had been frozen! Does not show on the menu that there not made fresh and that was a little irritating bc I never would of ordered it. Just ok not that great, but the little cup of salsa that came with it was delicious. Ask before purchasing if their burrito is made fresh before buying! read more

What a great way to spend a new year! Came in not knowing what to order but the cinnamon roll caught my eye. I did know I wanted a matcha cuz I'm missing all the matcha I had during my Tokyo trip last month. The gal behind the counter was really nice and helpful. She warmed up my cinnamon roll which made it just melt in my mouth. The matcha was just perfect! When the Nutella waffle came my mouth dropped. It was a masterpiece. Perfect ratio of everything. And all this while admiring the beautiful redwoods and morning fog settled in pockets of the mountain. I'll definitely be back! read more

I have mixed experiences at this place but overall good and local ownership and I know people here work hard, so rounding up to 5 stars. The goods - The owner is almost always there. Working hard and checking on staff and customers. Coffee is good. Like really good!! Strong and smooth roast. Whether black coffee or in a latte, it's really good. Cup exploded on me - they were really nice about it and replaced it. I think they got new cups too. Continually expanding menu. The not so good - Expensive. My large latte comes in at about $10 with alternative milk. Sometimes slow moving - depends who is working I think. (Or if owner not there). read more

*My review only pertains to their oat milk latte* I've had it a few times but haven't tried anything else there. Unfortunately, this is the worst oat milk latte in town. The reason for this is simple, they use inferior, generic, off-brand oat milk. It tastes ok, but it apparently doesn't foam, leaving you with a heavy cup of almost pure oat milk with the coffee all drowned out. You might be thinking, does oat milk foam? And the answer is YES. Just ask 11th Hour Coffee, or Cat and Cloud, or Companion Bakeshop, or even Starbucks. They all use name brand oat milk that is made specifically for baristas. I wish this place would do the same, then I might come back. read more

Visited this shop this morning for a poppy seed bagel. 1) new ownership (local!) 2) different menu 3) amazing food 4) clean and welcoming Met the new owners and love they live right down the road from the shop. Staff top notch friendly, too. The bagel took a little time but once done, I could understand it. The bagel was ginormous and pillowy soft while crunchy from the toasting. Please visit this place. Mountain roasting company outstanding cup of coffee!!! They have lots of other offerings in food and boba pastries, sandwiches and lots of other goodies. The staff was really nice, and it's a great stop on your way to Santa Cruz or roaring camp. Or if you're a local, it's a really nice place to be. We are delighted to have Mountain Roasting open again! The new owners are locals and honor Steve (the former owner). They are friendly, welcoming and genuinely interested in making sure you are happy with whatever you order. You can even get a soft serve ice cream now (be sure to add butterfinger crumbles on the top!). In addition to the always wonderful morning buns, there are cinnamon rolls to die for (they are HUGE)! On the savory side, they now offer chicken enchilada casserole, Chile Relleno bake & Shepherds Pie. Get there early as they do sell out. Their drink selection has expanded far beyond the usual good coffee, it'll take a long time to try them all! read more

I wouldn't normally write a review for this, but I really don't like being lied to. I was looking for a local roasterie and found this establishment. I went in and a gentleman in his 60's or 70's greeted me at the counter. I asked if they had mugs (I hate drinking coffee out of a paper or plastic cup... kind of like wine tasting in a plastic cup). He said, "No they weren't allowed to due to county mandates." I said, Hmmm so-and-so, and such-and-such (I named 3 other coffee places nearby) all had mugs. Then he said, "Well the shopping center won't let us use anything but single-use containers." (Now he's just shown himself to be a person who doesn't speak the truth.) So I went down the street to White Raven and got my coffee in a mug. It was yummy. So many places are using the "Covid excuse" for whatever they feel like these days. Not the best! read more

A cup of human kindness was what I found at this little gem of a coffee shop. The gentleman behind the counter was the owner, and when he realized that I only had a credit card (they're cash-only), he let me have a free cup of coffee and simply asked me to pay it back next time I stop in - it made my day! What he didn't know was that I couldn't have even gone to the ATM because I recently was the victim of fraud and my new debit card is still in the mail. They had some great coffee here, though the service was slow. They only had two baristas on staff and one of them was...making bagels for 10 minutes? Not sure. But the coffee was great, so it made up for the wait. Most of us got the Jump Start (Red Eye, or Espresso with Coffee). The espresso is strong and their coffee is brewed well. This place has the potential to be great. The breakfast bagel is solid, but the service is slow and the staff forgetful. We ordered a bagel with the jalapeno artichoke spread. We were expecting jalapenos and artichokes in the spread. Instead it was artichoke flavored cream cheese with peperoncinis in it.. Not jalapenos. And finally I had to go up and remind the staff we had ordered tea.. Not coffee just hot water over tea packets. Easy order. And the place was basically empty with two workers.. Coffee is a tricky thing. There are so many coffee houses to choose from that you either need to have REALLY good coffee (beans, roasters, etc) or have REALLY good customer service. Either way, you need to stand out somehow to keep up with the competition. One thing you can't do, is serve sub-par espresso, with snobby service and that is unfortunately something my fiancé and I experienced today. We're visiting from Seattle so we know a good bean when we taste one. We also know how everyone else within the friendly town of Felton has treated us; VERY kindly! The gentleman serving us today was what we are used to in high-end, big city roasteries; pretentiousness. But they usually meet that with delicious coffee. Not this man. All in all, we won't be back. $3.00 americano (using beans that tasted bitter and burnt), not accepting debit cards, and boujee customer service (using the word in such a low end establishment makes me chuckle a little bit), all contribute to us not returning when we come back next year. read more

I'll start by describing Mountain Roasting's shitty competition in Scotts Valley, which is partly why I'm giving it a high score: Scotts Valley coffee shops seem to have collectively decided they don't want to provide free wifi to their customers. This is yet another attack on public space. Yes, coffee shops are businesses, but they also constitute a public-ish place where people can congregate, have a nice cup of coffee, go on the internet, meet, talk, etc. It's like a public library. If the coffee shop owners of SV want to start charging for wireless internet, they can go fuck themselves and start a McDonalds franchise. Meanwhile I'll take my business some place more civilized: Felton. Who would have thought? Which is all to say: Mountain Roastings has free wireless internet, comfy leather chairs that look like they're from a law office in the 80s, and big sturdy wooden tables to work on. It's a good unpretentious place to sit and work or hang out and talk a few hours. The coffee seems fine and the sandwiches are solid. In short, it's got everything a coffee shop should have. Plus a guy that announces your change in cents -- as in, "here's 100 cents" and hands you a dollar. Four stars. read more

Just do the brew bar. You can choose to blend different types of coffee and make up your own favorite cup. I'd say that is rather unique and worth a visit. Staff is always friendly. And if you're a regular you always get a smile. If you carry a Starbucks gift card, you won't be impressed. But I'd imagine the owner isn't too interested in your type anyhow. read more
