So for starters, it's free... so in my mind that's 5 stars off the top just for being gratis. There really aren't very many places that you can camp these days where it's legal and free. So that's dope. And the view, looking to the east is fantabulous. Not so much the Knik River, which is a wide, muddy mess, but the view of the mountains here is priceless. Turn around and look to the west though, and it's nothing but dust and sad, scrubby trees. And when I say dust, I mean DUST. And there's a lack of public facilities. No shower, no bathroom, no BBQ grills and not enough trees to afford privacy while relieving ones self. RV'ers favor this place because with a house on wheels you can be comfortable. But in a tent, you might be dissatisfied. If you are into dirt bikes, ATVS or mudding, you'll love Knik Public Use. This is probably the most popular location to do those things in the valley. It's legal and you won't bother anyone. I've also seem people launch small watercraft from here, but I think the ability depends on the tides and what kind of equipment you have. The old abandoned Knik River Bridge is also found here, which is safe to walk on and get a good view of the goings on. In summary, it's a cool place to visit, but without an ATV or RV there isn't enough to keep my attention here for more than a few hours.

The rooms are spacious with each having their own private bathroom. The bed was so comfortable, best nights sleep that I had in years. The owners are two of the nicest people, they build the beautiful house and live on site. It's in a very safe area, easy to find with a big yard to sit out and read in warmer weather. When you check in, the owners will ask what you want for breakfast the next day, they made me French toast and had fresh fruit, yogurt, juice and coffee out. The best part of my stay was watching the Northern lights from the backyard. The owners called me to come down to watch them, the beautiful purple and green lights were AMAZING. The Northern Lights will only get stronger as the winter gets on so this is a perfect place to watch them. As for location, Palmer is 45 minutes north of Anchorage, 25 minutes from Hatchers Pass and 3 hours from Denali. Perfect place to stay a few nights and make side trips. Beautiful place, it was like staying with relatives, so safe and welcoming. I recommend Abby's Place to anyone traveling to Alaska!!

Showers are an extra $5 and worth it. Campground, laundry and bathhouses are immaculate and coed with private locked stalls. Owners are the nicest folks ever. Highly recommended.

The laundry also takes well over an hour to run, it's a 3-hour investment. Showers aren't warm, either. Not recommended for the price they want you to pay.

If you happen to book during one of her concert nights, you won't regret it. The artists are real and have hearts for music. The community gathers and it gives you the true Alaskan experience. Anyone can stay in a hotel, but few can say that they have stayed in a place like this. Give the people back home something to be jealous about when you share about your trip.

The view from the porch is spectacular! Dan and Matti are awesome hosts. The booking was super easy and they were all ready when I arrived. These cottages are brand new and very clean. They even had a washer and dryer in the unit I stayed. If your visiting Anchorage make the short drive to Palmer and stay here. Also book an adventure with Alaska Backcountry Adventure Tours. The tour to the glacier is a must. Highly recommend.

Helen is a fiesty old lady with lots of energy. She prepares good breakfasts, keeps the place…read moreclean and is a good hostess. if you were there on vacation it would probably be fine. I on the other hand was there to work at the Alaska State Fair which was long hours under rough weather conditions. If you want a quiet place I do not recomend it. She is loud, boisterous, and demanding with lots of rules. she loves to help, But you will pay for it. Although her prices were quite resonable, and she is a women with a big heart, she was unprofessional by charging us about $150 more then she quoted us by phone. I am a pretty patient person who deals with a lot, but after spending 13 nights there I blew a gasket as she does not let up and is a constant complainer. Personally I feel we deserve a partial refund for the headache she created. She will go way beyond and above, but you pay for it with either an additional charge or constant complaints. Next time I will pay more and have some peace of mind. It would have been perfect had she been gone or at least quiet once in awhile. I gave it 3 stars as she did do a lot to help and even cooked some dinners for us after we bought the food. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing place go elsewhere. The place is nice and clean and in the country which is gorgeous. If you can put up with a nagging old lady then it might work
