He wanted them to work in his Seattle area stores and to start a new congregation of believers who had a heart to restore Biblical simple Christianity. Just over ten years ago the Northwest Church of Christ in Shoreline merged with the Shoreline Christian Church. Both congregations had a rich Restoration history. After years of service in the North Seattle and Shoreline neighborhood, years of prayers were answered in the sale of our two buildings and purchase of the former Bally/LA Fitness center. This building has been completely remodeled and repurposed to be not only our church building but to become our Community Life Center, the Home of the Northwest Church. We share some of the upstairs with The Puget Sound Christian Clinic where they have offices and a fully outfitted dental clinic. We are here to be a blessing in Lynnwood!

I know it can seem very formal or be a little intimidating, but you are always welcome to join us in worship of our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. We are Christians who believe in the Holy Trinity, and the life, death & resurrection of Jesus for the salvation of the world. We read the Holy Bible and you will always hear scripture readings at Mass. We almost always have coffee & donuts after Mass on Sunday. We also have a 24/7 Adoration Chapel where you can pray at any time of night or day. You can call the church office if you have any questions.

"Bethany North" is a satellite church of Bethany Community Church near Greenlake in Seattle. Like…read moremany other mega churches, Bethany has decided to branch out in other neighborhoods. So far they've added a satellite in West Seattle, and this one, in Shoreline, at the Spartan Center. Bethany North has its own pastor, but it mostly broadcasts sermons/messages from the Senior Pastor, Richard Dahlstrom, from the main (Green Lake) campus. Occasionally the on-site campus pastor will speak, or one of the other pastors from the Green Lake campus. Having some of the same sermons from the main church is about the extent of the similarity. The Green Lake campus is really big, with multiple services, lots of college kids, and you can often get lost in the crowd. Whereas Bethany North (Shoreline) is much more intimate and there's just one Sunday morning service. There are a couple hundred people who attend, which really allows you to get to meet other people. That's a huge emphasis of this particular church - they really want there to be a sense of community among its attendees - and I think they've nailed that. There are a TON of little kids - so a lot of families from the area. But I think singles and empty nesters will like it too. Everyone is really welcoming and friendly. It's very casual in nature (Seattle style :)) so I don't feel like I have to get super dressed up to go, or sport the latest tat to fit in with the crowd. The music is contemporary but not a heavy emphasis on super loud music, screechy guitars, or drums. Plus - they have muffins! And great coffee! And most importantly, they care that you're there and make an effort to get to know you.

It also leans heavily into politics and feels more like a political organization than a place of worship. It's okay to have political beliefs as a church but none of them are qualified to be making these statements and come across misinformed and like propaganda. On top of that, I've tried multiple times to unsubscribe from their email and texting list and yet I still receive emails and texts from them- including ones about who I should vote for in elections. Overall, I would not recommend this church if you're looking for a genuine, transparent, christ-centered community.

Note: it's non-denominational if you're wondering. Worship was a bit loud when we first started but they adjusted it for closing songs. People were super friendly. Many came up to us and greeted and introduced themselves (&they weren't designated greeters). They introduced us to their families and others in church. They invited us to the upcoming 4th of July event (which we went to). And overall were cheerful kind and friendly. Honestly MORE people IN churches should be like this. What I mean is if you don't know someone or see someone new go out of your way to say hi and welcome them. It's not just the job of the greeters and staff. The church is predominately Russian, ukranian church body. A little diversity. They have an English service at 10am and Russian at 1230. People gather in the lobby chatting or grabbing a cup of coffee at their coffee bar in between services. Nice to see that sense of community. We'll go back again to continue getting a feel for if it's our home church.

During the services each of 2 Sunday services (8:00 & 10:00) hosts a brief meet & greet extending friendship and welcome to all parishioners.  The services offer a musical feast in between oral messages. The pastors rotate so that head paster Barry Crane is not always the key speaker. His sermons are special as he has a natural presentation style that is calm, reassuring and dynamic. The other pastoral staff rotates so that everyone gets a chance to lead the worshipers and to share their unique ideas. Doctrine tends to be more conservative with traditional values and practices. While some area Christian churches are heavily into political messages, this church uses a soft approach, which some members find comforting. North Sound Church is an escape to solace providing a break from all the political arguing, a place to give your mind a rest and just enjoy the fellowship it provides.

I haven't developed much…read moreof a church-going habit in my adulthood beyond the Christmas Eve services, however things have changed a little with the COVID-19 outbreak. The services are streamed online and my parents watch them in the living room Sunday mornings. I have found myself wandering down and joining them in watching and/or listening to the service each week for the past few weeks. I even watched the Maundy Thursday service this year! The messages have good take-aways that can be used to guide choices and decisions in day-to-day life and the music is consistently good to great. If there are things conveyed in the sermon that one of us (me, my mom, or my dad) has questions about we'll discuss it afterwards, helping us growth in our faith together. Overall an enjoyable experience.
