Very cute and modern shop in the friendly neighborhood of Carouge. I came by the first time just to check out the prices of the cakes and chocolates, and the worker seemed a little pushy after realizing I probably wasn't going to purchase anything.
I came back a few minutes later to get the Chou Mont Blanc Marron (7.20 CHF) and a Yuzu flavored Mac Sable (3 CHF). After paying for the foods, I looked and sampled a few of the chocolates as a possible gift to take back home, but after getting the vibe that she didn't want me to be in the store any longer, I left.
HOWEVER, I went back yet a third time after realizing she charged me 11 CHF instead of the 10.20 CHF that it was supposed to be. She gave me back my change in coins, and I was on my way.
The pastries themselves were a lot better than my not-so-great in store service.
FOOD:
Chou Mont Blanc Marron: Unlike your traditional mont blanc, this one was a very light chestnut whipped cream. I think because they were so generous with the cream, it ended up being too sweet for my liking.
There's a little dollop of melt-in-your-mouth meringue with a hazelnut in the middle (rather than the traditional chestnut cream)
The choux pastry was buttery and not sweet, which helped balance the sweetness of the cream. There were small pieces of marron glacé, which were soft & had a slight chew.
Yuzu Mac Sable: The yuzu cream was good - just a little bit tart and not too sweet, but I wasn't a fan of the sable :/ It had a dry texture that crumbled very easily, but i did like that neither the chocolate or the yuzu flavor stay in your mouth for a long time.
The chocolates that they sold, although I didn't get a chance to buy a few bars, were very delicious - you could tell that it was high quality and each had different flavor notes. read more
