It's a quirky place filled with museum like wonderment: bowler hat lampshades, elephant trunk chairs, parrot taxidermy, faux animal rugs. Drinks were about 12 quid. We really enjoyed the Calvados drink and the Grapefruit Vodka drink. Even though it's a Mayfair address, I hoped that I'd be proven wrong about concerns that it would be an overpriced and pretentious affair. I should have known better when I tried to amend my booking by adding two people to my group. I was told I could only add one. When we turned up that Saturday night, the place was barely packed, and there was clearly room for an extra seat (30 even). Considering they had just opened, I was surprised at the lack of hospitality. I loved the decor, but the overall experience is that of a failed attempt at a Punchdrunk or Secret Cinema event. The actors hired to perform characters, were actually more caricatures; the dramatics were too contrived and comical. The drinks and service are indeed what you would expect given the prestigious location, but quite frankly, for the same prices, I'd much rather return to more established haunts like the Bar Night Jar in Old Street. Short of any changes that can be classed as remarkable or unique, I do not intend to visit again. read more

I'm between a 3 and a 4 on this one. However, I've decided I give 4s away too liberally, and I could only really call it a "weak 4", so a 3 will have to do. I've had two enjoyable evenings here, but nothing truly stand-out. The place is most definitely quirky. I checked my phone 3 or 4 times on my way to make sure I was going to the right spot, as I'd walked past this dark driveway hundreds of times on my way to work and had never realized it had a hidden bar. Once you're inside, it's got a ton of unique decorations. However, I have to admit that I wasn't as blown away by the atmosphere as I'd expected to be given the other reviews: it certainly still felt like a fairly typical cocktail bar rather than anything totally distinct. (I.e., it was no Sketch.) It's also not that large, and got very cramped and fairly noisy when I was there with a large group on a Saturday. As for the cocktails, I rank them as a solid "good." The menu is really fun to read and the drinks were interesting as far as I recall, but again, nothing that stuck out as a "I must have this get me more!" Prices were as I would expect for a Mayfair bar. Service was "eh" both times. They were out of a lot of the snack options on my first visit, and it was relatively hard to get the waiter's attention on my second. Would I go back if someone suggested it? Sure. It's around the corner from my office, and it was great for a date (less so for a large group). However, with all the great places to explore in London, I don't intend to go running back on my own accord. read more

My friend and I came here for a drink to celebrate it being Friday (always a good reason to celebrate, I do believe) but after arriving at the front door a very smartly gentleman asked us for our reservation. After shuffling our feet for a while we admitted we were unannounced guests and the doorman asked us to wait to see if there was any space. We weren't long waiting before we were ushered inside and sat at one of the very few remaining tables in the establishment. Be advised, the venue does get busy and booking, especially for larger parties, is essential. The first thing to mention about Mr. Fogg's is the décor. Fantastic. In what can only be described as an eccentric Victorian gentleman's club, the room is hung with all many of curios, from taxidermy to portraits, books, antique sports equipment and, of course, a hot air balloon. We were presented with a leather-bound tome which turned our to be the drinks menu shortly after being seated and moments after that were given a glass of water and a small bowl of what I presumed to be Bombay Mix. The coasters are a bit cheap (similar were seen in Thailand going for 50p for a pack of 6), but otherwise everything is of the best quality. The drinks. Though quite pricey (but what you'd expect for the area), at around £15 a drink you really didn't think you're being overcharged. The ingenuity in the menu is most enjoyable, with each drink having a brief description from Mr Fogg as to its origins. I went for an 1840, which was tea-infused gin (two of my favourite things) served with Cointreau, crème de peche and marmalade. It was strong yet beautiful on the palette. it also came in a lovely bone china teacup and saucer, which matched (I simply cannot abide the 'kitch' fashion of mismatched chinaware) and added to the given story in the menu. Though I cannot recall what exactly my friend had, she said it was lovely, if a bit strong on the anise. The staff were helpful and willing to give advice is required, and though they never lingered, you never seemed to be waiting long before someone appeared for you or removed empty glasses. Drinks are amazing. Expensive but extensive. Make sure you either have a reservation, get there early and/or use your best American accent when asking the doorman for a seat at the bar. I'm sure it was because we arrived at 6:30 but I'm gonna tell myself it's because we are beautiful people. (I'm on vacation I am allowed delusion). So I work in Berkeley Square House (and no, I'm not one of those 'hedge fund' suits), so it was kind of nice and exciting to see that Mr. Fogg's had opened on the back side of the building. After a quick booking made through the website, I enjoyed a bit of banter with Mr. Fogg's personal assistant, and secured a table for 2. Now, I've had my fair share of cocktails in London (as have most of us, I know). The average price was around 10£, with some hitting the 15£ mark. All in all, pretty decent fare; the Old Fashioned was pretty well balanced, a bit too bitter for my liking. The atmosphere is kind of great - imagine being transported back in time to the house of Phileas J. Fogg Esq, with a whole bunch of weird and wonderful artifacts of the period from his wanderings. Although there was no sign of Passepartout, his faithful butler, the staff present were very attentive, and gave us great advice on drinks. They have some classic cocktails around Absinthe, sharing drinks, and punch bowls, but they can also do some pretty modern post prohibition stuff. Overall a lovely place, and I nice place to get away from work at the end of the day. read more

We were looking for a place on a Friday night to grab one more drink after dinner and decided to head over to Mr. Fogg's. I've read that you have to pre-book or charm the doorman, but we had to do neither. Once we showed up they were very nice and everyone who worked there was very friendly. We found a spot at the bar and each one of us (4 people) ordered a different drink. We watched the bartender take each drink very seriously and made each one to perfection. I ordered the "Henrietta" which was AMAZING. I could've drank 10 of them. Take your time to read the drink menu because they have really great drinks and something for everyone. Mr. Fogg's really does a nice job taking you back into time. The decor and the vibe they've created is very well done. It's been a while since I've been to a bar that I've been impressed with. Cocktail bars abound in this city. A bit hard to find, and a very small space inside, so definitely call ahead! The cocktail list was one of the better curated ones I've seen, and the decor was probably the highlight (many oddities on the walls and ceilings). This is a place with an interesting ambiance, where I'd bring someone for a drink to start the evening before moving on. The variety of food was very good and the day we went there was a Sri Lanka theme. All good was fleshly made. We all had different types of cocktail tea pots and they were delicious. A nondescript door opens into a wonderfully decorated bar with delicious drinks. I felt like I was stepping into a movie- the decor was old-fashioned and everything was perfectly on theme.The drinks were all fairly unique and my drink was served in a delicate teacup. It didn't seem too touristy to me, but that may have been because I was a tourist myself (oops). Although pricey, I think this bar is worth a try for the experience. read more

Dodged a Bulleit is a fantastic cocktail and the atmosphere at Mr Fogg's is wonderful! The staff are attentive and welcoming too.

Even entering this establishment is memorable. A truly unique experience and one I would thoroughly recommend. My visit was marred slightly by a very lengthy delay between drinks of a "bottomless" tipsy tea which is timed to 2 hours. I was certainly not abusing this offer, and waiting at least 20 minutes for a drink on a timed offer was frustrating. read more

Five stars for effort. Three for result. Four stars overall. It's really a shame that our eccentric London bars have to come from mini-chains of novelty bars. The owners of Bunga Bunga, Maggies and Barts bring you a new blast from the past: Mr. Foggs. The bar has been designed to look like the ground floor living room of Phileas Fogg, displaying relics from his travels around the world. The attention to detail is outstanding, including dust collections on the bottles of liquor on the top shelf. That being said you can't shake the feeling that Mr Fogg is trying just a tiny little bit too hard. The problem is that while the interior design and the staffs' outfit fit right into the late Victorian atmosphere, the hedge fund suits having a drink after another 14 hour work day do make your feel like it is all a bit of a gimmick. However gimmicks can be fun, as can be hedge funds suits. Any a bar in Mayfair that serves cheap bottles of booze and large sharing drinks will almost certainly attract a party crowd on the weekends. The girlfriend and I only had two drinks, late a weekday evening, and both were outstanding. The staff were universally friendly and encouraging us to booze more. At the end it's not my problem how long it will be before people get bored of a place such as this one. The combination of booze, a crowd that will spend money to drink it, friendly staff, tasty drinks means I'll be back. I also left my bag there, so I kind of have to. read more

I highly recommend reservations, I arrived around 6:30 on a Saturday without them and waited almost an hour to get in. Once inside I realized while people were willing to wait so long. It really is a cool small cocktail bar. The bartenders are friendly and good at their jobs. The cocktail list is huge and they can get quote pricey. I had 4 cocktails from different parts of the menu and they were all good. The only cocktail I didn't immensely enjoy was the invigorator, it's super sweat and milky and by the end was hard to drinks. I would definitely come back, it also seems like a great place for a date night. read more

We were left very disappointed. When we arrived the first evening we saw the long queue and spoke with the doorman "Ben" who stated to call tomorrow morning for a reservation and he would see to it that we could get tomorrow. We did exactly as he said and when we called later that night the reservation office was closed and the couldn't do anything. We called promptly the next day in the morning and we reached the reservation office and they didn't know who Ben was. We explained he was the doorman they patronizingly told us that doormen have nothing to do with reservations. Then they stated there were no reservations until midnight and that would only be to join the queue but they closed at 1 am. All we can gather is that there is no process on how to visit this establishment. read more

Ohhh what a place. Located in maybe one of central London's ugliest side streets this bar has no real signage outside. Based on the concept of a privet members club you need to knock on the door and have to either have booked beforehand or overcome the doorman with your charm. I did the second and got a table for my friends and myself. The interior gave me a warm and cosy feeling ... maybe because it was cold outside ... but maybe because it was so quirky, but still elegant. Old fashioned birdcages, Victorian display cabinets, oil paintings of ugly people ... I felt like I stepped into a 19th Century Gentleman's Library. Loved it. The menu is based on the travels of Mr Fogg form "In 80 days around the world" and has some amazing concoctions. As I have a taste for spice I ordered a drink with pepper and was not disappointed. Whoah! I will definitely come back here for my after dinner drinks with my favorite ladies and gents. read more

I found my favorite cocktail lounge in London! It is tucked away in a back alley way in Mayfair. As soon as you walk into the lounge, you are transported into a different space in a different time. It is a themed lounge that is supposed to be the living room of Mr. Phileas Fogg from "Around the World in 80 Days". You can find all sorts of fun stuff here, a hot air balloon, bicycles, guns, exotic animals specimen, etc. Great conversation starters and fun to just look at. They have a huge cocktail menu and for the one I tried, it is very tasty, and like all good old English things, it ain't cheap. However, if you are looking for an eclectic place, you should give it a try. read more

Doormen behaved rather curtly, indicating we had to stand on the right step to the right for them to check in a teeny book (with handwritten scribbles) for our reservation - all a tad below the brow and that too at 8 pm. Staff inside were friendly, however not organised nor efficient. Sadly won't be returning. Def go for the cocktails, charm factor and location but keep expectations in check. read more

Went here for my boyfriends birthday as something a little different. Really great atmosphere and the decor is mad, always something to catch your attention. Drinks were delicious, if not a little overpriced! I think the one negative point is the music, I think the atmosphere would definitely benefit from some music of the time rather than modern club music! I'm deeply disappointed. The hostess lacks common sense... I waited with a party of 4 at the bar for over an hour. Instead, the hostess gave a couple (2 people) a table for 10. It makes no sense. The cocktails are great, but a reservation is necessary. Good luck getting one though since they don't answer their telephone. Lamentably, I will never come back to this establishment.
