These payment options were a lot easier, and cut down on the long lines waiting to purchase tickets. We arrived around 4:30 and the crowd wasn't too bad, the lines to try out food weren't long. Cantina 76 was my first stop, I ordered a brisket taco and a blue raspberry lemonade. The taco was soft shell with sliced brisket, chopped tomatoes and onions with cilantro. The brisket was tender and flavorful. The blue raspberry lemonade was aqua blue, with the right amount of sweetness and tartness, both were delicious. I plan on visiting their restaurant in the near future. My next food adventure was from Sidewall Pastry Kitchen, with the banana pudding cookie. It's a thick cookie with banana flavored pudding with a vanilla wafer on top. The cookie itself was also banana flavored, I didn't like the cookie, but my niece enjoyed the peach cobbler cookie. The cookie reminded me slightly of a Crumbl cookie, that's not a favorite cookie of mine either. It was just a little too much going on with the cookie. My next stop was at Food Truck Row. I sampled food from EveryThing Egg Rolls ( Philly Cheesesteaks egg roll), Churro Masters(chocolate drizzled churros) and Knight Bites, Furman University(Brisket Knight Bites) We ended this year's Fall For Greenville with another trip to Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream. The free event runs through Christmas Day and spotlights 88 decorated Christmas trees at two downtown locations: Courtyard by Marriott at 50 W Broad St. Hyatt Regency at 220 N Main St. The trees are decorated by volunteers and sponsored by Upstate schools, companies and organizations. I stopped by the Hyatt Regency, and the multi level lobby with sunshine pouring through the windows was the perfect backdrop for these festive creations. I imagine it is magical at night and can see why the festival is a longstanding tradition for many Upstate families. Event proceeds will support the creation of a new graduate medical-education program at Bon Secours St. Francis Downtown Hospital to help address the growing need for practicing medical professionals. The trees can be viewed at any time during the hotel lobby's open hours.

We were able to walk up and down the street and check out all the vendors had to offer, and then we made our way to the booths we wanted to try, some with no lines. This way, we were able to try far more food than in years past. Granted, after being there a little over an hour the crowd was starting to close in, but at that point we had had our fill of the food, at least. I really appreciate that the festival seemed more family friendly this year since we had our grandson with us. The baby changing station and rocking chairs were a great idea. We noticed that alcohol sales are cut off relatively early, and this gives the restaurants the opportunity to take over when the festival closes. All of this, I'm sure, will continue to improve the reputation of FFG going forward.

Having lived near downtown Greenville for 5 years now, Fall for Greenville has always been just an…read moreannoyance to me...3 days of detours when trying to go to the grocery store, traffic snarls where there should be none. Finally this year, I decided to throw myself into the fray to see what all the excitement was about. As it turns out, it is actually worth the effort. Great food, great music, surprisingly well organized for an event with that many people. I'm a bit of an introvert, so I have very short limits on being able to push through crowds. Most of the booth lines were managed well enough that I never waited more than 4 minutes, and once I got my tickets and a beer, I worked my way to one of the concert stages and had plenty of elbow room to stand and enjoy some live music. I checked out 2 stages and 3 artists. Each was very different- from folk to rock to country-and all were really good bands. The beer garden had a nice selection of local beers represented, and the Main Street showed off some of what is making Greenville a place that out of town foodies should put on their radar. Will I go back next year? Heck ya!
