Stopped at Mr.Price yesterday at Blanchardstown shopping center for the first time since coming to Ireland from India. I was impressed with the store and the great prices. Picked up a few things and went to the checkout counter. There was a chubby, baby-faced guy at the counter who did not respond to my greeting and looked extremely grumpy. He asked me something about me having a loyalty card or something like that, and as I do not belong to Ireland and he was speaking so fast, I was having a bit of a problem understanding his accent. As I said 'pardon' a couple of times, he became more and more irritated. When I thanked him before leaving, he did not reply. I did not think much of it till then, as I just thought that's the way he is... But then, this white lady who was behind me at the counter came forward and I saw the guy's behaviour change completely in a second. He greeted her, was laughing with her and seemed like a totally different person. I then figured he was just a racist! I will never be going back there. Shame that even young people of today's generation can be such staunch racists and act in such a demeaning manner towards those different than themselves. A big shame! read more
