It was my first time visiting Mr Ricks Bar and it was a pretty cool place to chill and sip on your favorite cocktail while Enjoying the outdoor beach views. We didn't order any food just drinks. The Micheladas were pretty good!

    Bloody tasty and properly loaded

Great dog friendly patio across from the water. Order at the counter. We just had drinks and found a great table to enjoy. Bloody and Margarita both really well made. This is how a bloody should be served!

Great patio on the water to hang out and have cocktails and bar food. Self service, ordered at the bar. We split an OHC burger with sweet potato fries for a light lunch. Recommend.

While visiting Cali we went to Avila beach decided to grab a drink after walking the beach and hopped into Mr. Ricks. Dope vibe and live brand on Sundays!! We had a pina colada and a blackberry margarita!! Pina colada came with a fun flamingo straw!!! If you're in the area drop in enjoy the atmosphere!!

Great location with beautiful view, counter service keeps prices, reasonable. Lots of indoor seating with pool table in back. Friendly staff and relaxed ambience. Food was good, the Ahi sandwich was incredible!

Mr Ricks is ALL about location, location, location! Located steps away from the beach, and the Avila Beach Pier, this is the perfect spot to enjoy the outdoor breeze, enjoy some good music, watch the locals surf and enjoy a drink (or food) with a loved one! They are also dog friendly which is always an added bonus! They have a full bar, beer on tap and food options - their clam chowder is one of my ALL TIME favorites and it is even better if you add bacon on top! :) My husband also loves the bloody mary! The service can be hit or miss, based on who is working and how busy it is (especially if it is a weekend), but most times I have visited the bartenders and servers are super nice and helpful! Mr Ricks has live music on weekends and evenings and it is always a busy, and extremely fun, spot to be at! If you are looking for a chill spot to enjoy the the coastal scenery, you have come to the right place!

Food: 4. Came by after picking up a friend from SLO airport. Weather was nice so he wanted a place where we could sit outside. Most places to eat in Avila have outdoor seating. We went here because we have been here before. All ordering is done at the bar counter but food is brought to your table. I ordered their carne asada fries. Portion was large but the price was high (over $20). Food was brought to our table at the right temperature and looked appealing. My carne asada fries were good especially since they met my request for crispy / well done fries. Fries were a big portion and good for 2 or more people.

The bartender named Ryan was kind and helpful. Although, the beer we got was bad and he agreed. He let us choose another. The fishbowl came with sparkles in it! Ocean view location. Inside the thermostat said 83 degrees. It was very hot outside, I wish there could have been cool AC.

    The view!

Grabbing a quick snack and some drinks while doing some people watching. We ordered the taco appetizer which feed both of us easily. The service was great and food was very tasty. You can't beat the view and they have good music playing in the background.

My favorite bar on Avila beach! I love the pink mermaid drink and it's the perfect bar to watch the sun set over the ocean. They have a good menu and the bartenders never disappoint! If you're visiting Avila and looking for a good drink, this is the place!

The bartender/server welcomed me in and seated me in the dining area. I already knew what I wanted so he put in my order as soon as I sat. The interior has a nostalgic charm, great for a date night. Executive chef and owner, Douglas MacMillan, fuses recipes from his mother, Ada Rosa's, hometown of Bonito, Italy and New England cuisine where his father is from. Although the "award winning" clam chowder didn't blow me away, it was delicious, creamy, not too salty and had clams in each spoonful. The Brussels Sprouts was one of the best I've had though. The sprouts were perfectly fried, not greasy, bacon was crispy, the dried cherries were subtle, goat cheese was evenly sprinkled on top and the balsamic reduction was well balanced. I had no problem eating the whole appetizer myself. The lobster roll came with big chunks of Maine lobster, topped with a big claw and nestled in a soft yet toasted New England roll. I asked for butter instead of it being dressed, so it was pretty plain, which was perfect for me because all I wanted to taste was the lobster with a little butter. I've had one too many lobster rolls with more mayo than I prefer. The fries it came with were also thick and fried perfectly with a light sprinkle of salt. I washed it all down with a nice glass of Chardonnay and was very satisfied with my last meal here. I would definitely come back to Ada's when in Pismo!

The chicken fajita quesadilla came with a side of guacamole, pico de gallo, and guacamole. The serving size was large and definitely a meal that can be split between 2 people. The tri tip salad was delicious. The tri tip was tender and had a smoky flavor. The garlic Parmesan fries were not overly garlicky and had great flavor. They were crispy. I would get all of these items on the menu again. The restaurant has indoor or patio seating. You seat yourself. We sat on the patio and it was nice to see the ocean from our table. The way it works is you order at the bar, and then they will take down your phone number to text when your order is ready. However, it seemed like they were more using the loud speaker because I didn't receive the text until 9:57pm that night. My order was ready at 6:53, so we were looking at about a 23 minute wait - which I think is fair given how busy it was. The food itself was just okay to me. I didn't think it was anything to write home about, but that could be because I had some really great tri tip at the SLO Farmer's Market the day before. However, I will say, I really liked this place for the environment. There was live music, and a lot of table and chairs to just look out at the water and just enjoy the views. It was super family friendly, and I found it to be really enjoyable to just sit and hang out. I did find it odd that they close early (8pm) on a Friday night. At 7:59pm, the employees will come up to you to let you know that they close at 8pm, so it seems like they are strict about that.

First time here after a 3.5 hr drive to SLO. Service - 3.5 stars. So I gave this mainly because my wife (not me) seemed to not vibe with our waitress. In fact, I can tell my wife felt our waitress was being rude when she was asking questions about the menu. There was definitely tension with my wife in that she had to talk about the rudeness of our waitress. As for myself, I didn't take the waitress nodding to my wife's question as being rude but whatever. Thing my wife did notice after we gave our order was that our waitress didn't bring the complimentary bread and butter and we had clearly seen two tables in front of us get that. In fact, my wife had to go to the front desk to ask if free bread was given. For that, 3.5 stars So I had the lunch special - Wild Pacific rockfish with cilantro lime rice and pineapple cole saw. The rice- 3 stars. Nothing special , hard to differentiate it with regular rice since flavor was subtle and I couldn't taste any lime to it. Pineapple Cole slaw side- 5 stars. Very light and refreshing . Had a bit of Dijon taste to it with small pineapple pieces. Both me and my wife enjoyed it (when I had her try it) The rockfish -3 stars felt like it was a bit dry. Had to ask for tartar sauce just to give some zing as well as salt and pepper My wife had the salmon, side of clam chowder and cilantro rice. I tried the salmon and was pretty good taste and seemed more fresh than store bought. Overall, it was a decent experience for a seafood place but not a wow factor. Would I come back again? I think it was good to try it out but there are too many other seafood places to try in the SLO/ Pismo beach area

To sit here is to be seduced by the Pacific's rhythmic pulse, a panoramic distraction that almost--almost--masks the architectural and emotional exhaustion of the room. The décor suggests a space in transition, or perhaps an identity crisis. It bears the unmistakable look of a "palimpsest"--a new design hastily layered over the ghost of a previous one, creating an aesthetic friction that feels more like a temporary stage set than a permanent sanctuary. This weariness extends to the staff, who navigate the floor with a palpable, heavy-lidded misery, as if the sheer beauty of the coastline has become a burden they are no longer interested in carrying. The kitchen, however, still possesses moments of genuine, startling clarity. I opted for the "Trio," a format that usually promises variety but often delivers compromise. Not so here. The sandwich was a minor triumph of construction and flavor, a high-water mark for a casual lunch. It was flanked by a clam chowder of remarkable depth--creamy without being cloying, and singing with the brine of the sea. Yet, the meal is not without its turbulence. The accompanying salad arrived drowning, a casualty of an over-zealous hand with the dressing that rendered the greens more of a soup than a side. And then there is the matter of the French Onion soup. To encounter a $9 upcharge for a bowl of onions and melted Gruyère is to experience a moment of pure, capitalistic vertigo. It is a price point that suggests a level of luxury the service and the "layered" décor simply haven't earned. As for the amenities, the state of the restrooms remains a mystery--a rare blind spot in an otherwise exhaustive afternoon. Blue Moon Over Avila remains a destination for the eyes, and intermittently, for the palate. If you can ignore the visible gloom of the service and the audacity of the surcharges, the view alone is worth the price of admission. Just perhaps stick to the chowder and leave the French Onion to the high rollers.
