My granddad is 85, and although I'm too young to know if modern replicas are anything like the originals, he says this one is. And I trust him.
The shelves are full of self serve items, fudges, toffees, and chocolates. However, behind the counter is where the real gems are... rows and rows of giant glass jars full of delicious goodness just waiting to be taken down. Mmmm.
They stock "specialty" sweets that are difficult to find, and my granddad helped navigate me around the hard to find treasures. Whereas supermarkets are full of fruity flavourings and sugar, the sweets stocked in this shop are somewhat intriguing. Tea cakes are a new favourite of mine... a little chewy, a little hard, a bit of coconut and nuts, and toffee. But it's not like normal toffee, I can't quite put my finger on it. Clove balls were also interesting, but I'm not quite certain I'm that fond of them...
Overall, a great place! I can't wait to try a few more next time. read more
