I spent a lot of time in here when I was pregnant and after, and probably bought up most of its stock of babysuits (well at 10p each who wouldn't?!). I don't get in there as much as I used to nowadays and sadly when I do there's not so much for my daughter now she's bigger but I've still managed to find some really good toys in there for her at under a couple of quid, often including batteries. Some of the staff know me by sight now and it's really nice to be able to chat when I go in. I managed to give a few things to them once although I'm not sure whether they would have made much from the books I gave them, they were a bit niche. This is my favourite of all the charity shops in Stony Stratford as it's like a jumble sale, which I love, being able to dig out a good bargain. The others aren't quite the same.

It's a tiny little shop - forget trying to get a wheelchair in there, you're hard put sometimes to walk round the place with a stick so you'd never get a chair in here. They do their best to keep it orderly, but with such a limited space this place does tend to get a bit well disorganised and messy. It's a good place to look though as there are often odd little things that you can find here.

This is one of Bedfords two stationary shops, located only a few doors away from each other. It is…read moresituated on Bedford's high street. Colemans is different from most 'normal' stationary stores as it not only has a range of paper and pens etc it also has quite a large craft section comprising of fancy card, rubber stamps, punches etc. This particular Colemans is quite small at only around 4 metres wide, but it is quite a long shop. I also wouldn't deem it as accessible because there is a very small space between the wall and the middle section of shelving. Although the staff are very helpful so i'm sure they wouldn't mind helping anyone in difficulty out. I tend to find Colemans quite expensive but they do often have special offers and they do their own version of a student card.

Coleman's has retained several people for a long time and they certainly know their business. This shop stocks a number of items that just aren't available anywhere else in Bedford. They still do all the same sort of stuff for kids at school but they also do quite a good range of t-shirts and shirts in really large sizes from xl up to 5xl and one or two even bigger ones. Although at a glance these larger sizes aren't cheap, if you look at the prices you pay elsewhere for the same stuff, they're actually pretty good, although it's not really great that just because you're a bit bigger you have to pay double the cost for stuff. I got a shirt in here for a family member who was moaning he was struggling to find something and he was really pleased with it. It's not a fancy store, pretty basic looking inside and out, and they don't stand on ceremony here, so don't expect it. What you will get is friendly, helpful and good value.

It used to be where Toys 'r Us now is but moved to its current larger premises around five years ago. The store is excellent for buying anything DIY related and also for looking at furniture for the home. The garden section is good, but the selection of plants isn't as good as B&Q. Look out for good deals on their home furniture, kitchens and bathrooms. We recently purchased a couple of sofas on a two for one offer. Look out for their 10% weekends and if you know anybody that works for Argos or Homebase then ask them about the 20% friends and family weekends.

The only problem I find with them is that of the major DIY stores such as B&Q and Wickes, Homebase is really the most expensive across all ranges. OK, they have great paint ranges and a whole range of tools, screws and bolts, but I don't really want to pay up to twice as much as I could get the same item for is somewhere like Wickes.
