The selection of clothing inside is so so. I am sure if you come on the right day you can find a great deal but make sure that you wash your clothes when you get home as the smell does stick a bit to the clothing. I have never bought anything in this store as the few things I did find (well actually it was my boyfriend who found it for me) were to small. It is Ireland so you have to have patience if you need a size L or larger than that even.

Their book selection last time I checked, wasn't the greatest, but for €1 (all books go for that price!) you can pick up some fiction you've probably never heard of before, and if you don't like the first chapters, you at least didn't really loose any money. If you feel like you can freshen up the selection, box your unwanted books and bring them over. They have a sign in the window now which reads that donations are urgently needed. The added incentive: you're supporting a good cause.

Great, ornate window displays and a plethora of books, Enable is the diamond in the rough of the George/Aungier street charity shops. I got a few great records here about a year back and kept returning as they have probably the strongest selection of cds out of all Dublin's charity shops. Loads of women's clothes, but fellas, not so much.

They're fantastic because not only are they color-coordinated, but they give some really amazing ideas of the kind of fashionable ensembles that you can put together from items at a charity shop. That, my friends, is an art. The fact that every Enable Ireland window looks so great makes me think they might have a full-time creative director on their side. Kudos to this genius, whoever they may be. Anyway, inside the merchandise isn't quite as impressive, but given the window's dose of inspiration it's not terribly difficult to find something that'll do. They sell clothes for men, women and children and all of the prices are fantastic. Oh and they have a really awesome selection of books that are sooo cheap. The Oxfam Ireland on Georges Street is well-organized and has some great buys. I'm not just saying…read morethat because it's a charity shop and it deserves your money. A lot of trendy kids come here looking for vintage and second-hand clothes. Oxfam doesn't always deliver but it's worth having a look because every once and a while you'll walk out with an original piece that costs peanuts. An interesting thing about this place is that on occasion it sells low cost wedding ware. The wedding dresses are for the most part (95% of the time) new and are donated by designers or retailers. Sometimes, people bring in their dresses after their wedding day. Of course, this Oxfam accepts other clothes as well. People who are interested in giving away casual attire can drop down their old stuff, but the items need to be cleaned first.

Maybe they didn't have room to store them but what kind of charity turns away donations? And really good donations too! this has really turned me off this store altogether, after being turned away about three times I have given up trying to donate to Oxfam. Madonna on a cassette! And Toni Braxton! Talking about a trip down memory lane. I can't count how many teenage binges in the local park back home ended in a badly-drunken singalong to Un-Break My Heart as we spilled the last drops of our vodkas over our pants. Ohhh the poor people living next to the park. I just had to get the tape, just to remind me of the "good ol'days". Can't wait to see what the next trip will bring.

Here is another one of those Tardis-style shops that look small on the street and seem to go on and on forever once inside. TGS definitely had the most diverse offering on display, with clothes and books kept to the front, furniture and handbags on the next level up, and childrens toys (some of which were still in the box) at the very back. As always the prices were encouraging -most of the childrens' goods were about €1, while skirts and trousers came in around the €5 / €10 mark. I've reviewed a few charity shops, but this one, this one is my favourite. I don't know how they do it but Barnardos in Dun Laoghaire always have the best stuff. A few years ago I got a Baumler tuxedo (a fancy one, basically) for ten euro that was practically bespoke it fit me so well. It was the best thing ever owning my own dress suit, I felt like a high society debutante every time I opened my slide-robe. I was in there recently and they had around ten, fairly low-quality, but still really cool looking , old and abandoned 35mm SLR cameras that, I imagine, will take slightly over-sepia'd, 1970s looking photographs. So, yeah, really a great charity shop, my favourite by a long way and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area

Charity shops can't stay in business unless kind-hearted people are willing to take a few extra steps and give away clothes or cutlery they've stopped using instead of throwing the unwanted stuff in the bin. Take a look in your garage, wardrobe and bookshelves. I'm sure you'll find pants and skirts you know you will never wear again, books you want others to enjoy or even unused presents from old aunts you never felt good about throwing out but take up lots of space in the closet. Now's your chance to give them away and feel good about it!
