I had a broken filling. I made an appointment to fix it, and marked it as an emergency visit. When I got there, the dental assistant said that I had to take X-rays of it. They took X-rays and then the dentist says that she recommended a crown because she didn't know how much "damage" there was, and discouraged me from just getting another filling. So I was talked into paying out of pocket to get a crown . 1650.00 bucks!
Before the procedure, the Eastern European dental assistant told me that because "there were so many appointments that day, that I would NEED to pay for my crown IN FULL, BEFORE I get it done, so that the office "doesn't fall behind schedule". WTH??
The dentist and assistant proceeded to freeze my mouth left, right and center, excessively and unnecessarily.
As they were working on my mouth to put the crown in, I noticed that either the dentist or the assistant kept PICKING AT MY BOTTOM TOOTH THE ENTIRE TIME, with one of those metal picks, while they were working on the upper crown above it. I kept trying to figure out why they were hacking at my bottom tooth when they were supposed to be doing my crown!
I kept thinking 'was it my imagination, or are they picking at my bottom tooth?' I dismissed it and reasoned that maybe they were trying to clean any debris from the sealant from the above crown. But I clearly KNEW what I felt, in spite of all the freezing they did to my mouth. Did they think I wouldn't notice?
After she put in the crown, she told me that there was "no serious damage to the tooth", implying that a filling would've been fine. This is AFTER I paid 1650 out of pocket for a bloody unnecessary crown!
A day later, I was eating an apple, and all of the sudden, that bottom tooth filling BROKE from the side, the VERY AREA that I felt them picking at it with the metal hook. I never had issues with that tooth before, and just a day later, it breaks!!
Then of course I had to make an appointment to get that tooth fixed. When I got there, the dentist told me that she refused to do filling on that bottom tooth, and recommended another CROWN!
She said that before she did anything, she wanted to take a FULL EXAMINATION of my teeth, to see if there is anything that needed to be done before that broken bottom filling.
Dr. Desmarchais refused to fix a simple filling that she aided in cracking, and tried to sell me another crown!
When I very sarcastically told her that all of these "procedures" that she was trying to con me into doing would make me homeless, she replied arrogantly, "Well, you WILL be homeless if you don't get them done!"
Only a year before the appointment, I had a full examination in Ottawa, which costed 495 bucks, and Dr Desmarchais told me that I had to do everything over again. SCAM!
As for the crown itself, it is poorly fitted; the sealant between the gums and the crown broke off about 2 weeks after it was put in. There is now a gap between the gums and the crown, and a new foul smell has appeared when flossing between the crown. Very unprofessional job.
Dr Desmarchais is a fraudulent business dentist who is out to rip her patients off with unnecessary procedures. BEWARE!!
