Our first night we camped out at the end of the field and since it's towards the end of the season we had the place to ourselves. That afternoon we tubed down the Dan River for 3 hrs. For people who love spending time in nature it was heaven! Floating down the river through beautiful woods and pastures is the perfect thing to do on a lazy Summer afternoon, especially after a long drive. There's also fishing there. That night we cooked around the fire, and made music. We were joined by the owners who are very friendly and knowledgeable about the local history, sustainability, geology, agriculture and just about anything else you might want to know. Just ask Andrew! They have bathrooms with toilets, and showers (hot water)! For anyone looking for an affordable, rustic and low key destination, I can't recommend it enough.

We proceeded on the quiet and peaceful Yadkin River with Tony covering safety guidelines and important information about the current conditions of the river. We started our birding while Tony watched the river alerting us to specific conditions, allowing us to focus more on birding. Tony also gave us information about locations popular with birds. During calm times, Tony gave us a history of the area and the Yadkin River. The highlight of the morning for all of us was watching the Belted Kingfishers interact with each other fishing along the way. The mid-morning break was a scene from a five-star dining experience. Ryann spent hours preparing a special breakfast for us. On a river island, she setup a table with a white linen tablecloth and food to satisfy any palette. After this filling rest stop, we continued on the river finding other birds including an Indigo Bunting. Again, Tony's support gave us the time to bird and soak in the beautiful surroundings. We finished our trip watching swallows dance around their mud homes. We are deeply grateful to Ryann and Tony for their efforts providing us with a memorable and magical trip. Average price is only $45 a night and certainly well worth it. It is located about 5 miles from Elkin and right in the middle of winery country. There is a nice little creek running next to some of the sites. It is a short walk to the New River. We saw several people enjoying the river just wading in and some fishing. WI-FI was great- best we have had in a park yet. The owner Tom was great helping people in and out of their spots if they needed it. If I had to pick a negative- no camp fires - but it was worth not having one to stay in this beautiful place with great scenery. This is a great course for what it is…read more What is it you might ask? A very inexpensive, beginner friendly, experience. No frills. Outside of two holes, not much in the way of challenges of water hazards to hit over. No sand at all. Most fairways are quite wide, and there is no real rough at all. You're hitting into fields which used to be pastureland. There are some woods to contend with if you go way off track, but for a golfer who can usually land in the 80-90 range on a standard municipal course, I absolutely shredded this place with a 74. Drove, or was within easy chip distance of 4 greens, and had a legit eagle opportunity which I lipped out. All par 5s were very reachable, on this particularly sun-scorched and drought ridden conditions we played in. Your ball had so much roll, it shortened an already short course. By the way, it is a 9 hole course. Most holes do have two tee boxes to play a full 18. The good: So inexpensive that you can't really complain. 20 bucks to ride 18. The greens are absolutely in fantastic condition, even during a drought. Which if you are going to pick something to excel at, that is the thing in my opinion. Not generally a crowd to contend with, tee-times are not needed Come as you are, not even the most remote semblance of dress code. Very beginner friendly. Friendly owners on site. The bad (if it weren't so cheap): Golf carts are in very rough shape, but functional, mostly. There is one hill you probably can't climb with two in the cart. There is another downhill which you likely won't be able to stop, so pay attention and drive carefully. No cart paths, signs, course map, anything. Better go for the first time with someone who has been before. Bring a range finder. No on course amenities like ball washers or water coolers. The clubhouse barn does sell basic snacks and drinks. I didn't see a sign... but GPS took me to the right place. All in all. I enjoyed playing here with my friends who are just getting started with the game. Plenty of opportunity to coach them and have fun in a no pressure situation. I would come back, and those who set their expectations on the price will love it.
