Murray Valley Beef Producers is like a butcher supermarket. It's pretty big! You will find all sorts of meats and seafood here. You will also find a range of processed items, like sausages, schnitzels, spring rolls, and marinated meats. There is quite a selection of different cuts to choose from depending on the animal. What I was impressed with was the quality of the cuts. In particular the ribs. I was looking for beef ribs for a Brazilian style bbq I was planning for the weekend. This butcher stocked yearling ribs with a good amount of meat on them. Some butchers cut off the belly part just over the ribs; which annoys me as the ribs then not have much meat on them. Well, not here! They are very meaty and really good quality. Best part was they were really well priced as well! Only around $15 for 1.3kg. Schwing! I also bought a pack of pepper Texan style snags which were lovely. Very meaty, not too much fat and really juicy! So, I know that Mount Barker is a little out of the way for most. But, if you have freezer space, I would recommend checking it out and stocking up here. Especially if you like quality very cheap!

Silvia has wonderful relationships with local fruit and veg suppliers, bakers and cheese makers at the Central Markets and Adelaide Farmers Markets. She prides herself on serving seasonal dishes on her menu and uses as much of every ingredient in the dish or other dishes as possible (when normally they'd be thought of as food scraps). So whether you're drinking left over broccoli stalks in a juice or the pulp from your juice is going into compost for their veggie garden out the back you can be sure less than 1% of any dish here is going to waste. When I went here I had a simple poached eggs with avo on rye toast. Unfortunately the eggs were a little too firmly cooked for my liking, but the dish was still fresh and filling. The coffee was also delicious. This place is very cosy with its pot belly stove roaring on a cool winter's day and a lovely friendly environment to dine for brekky or lunch.

Service was friendly and patient, as well as willing to explain all of the varieties available for tasting which was helpful for wines I wasn't familiar with. I don't actually think they are a full-time cellar door on the weekdays or weekends but if they are around they seem more than willing to give you a taster! They also host monthly weekend cellar door events that involve other local Adelaide Hills friends like Prancing Pony and SA food trucks like Haddo's Dogs or Loca Pops. I love pizza and immediately went to investigate. The Oven is not really the best looking pizza bar, it has the feel of your local family pizza store. No money spent on dressing up the shop. But for where there is a lack of stylish decor, these guys make up with some tasty pizza. Well priced, cooked, and good quality ingredients. The cooks are also champions and happy to have a casual chat while constructing your dinner. I recommend The Summit pizza and asking what the specials are for the day as well. They like to be creative with ingredients. This pizza store is what the Adelaide hills needed. Some pizza that is good quality and not too expensive. If you consider your self a pie gastronome this is the place, the range of fresh baked choices are excellent, through to a cabinet displaying mouth watering cakes. There are fixies out the front, often filled with breadsticks, and there are cute wooden chairs and tables. I went up here for breakfast with my family and got amazing muesli. Almost every time I go out for breakfast I purchase the muesli, so this had a lot of competition. The muesli itself was delicious, it tasted home-made and very organic. But what made it the best was the poached fruit they served it with. The fruit was warm and syrupy, contrasting perfectly with the rest of the dish. Another star meal they have here are the mushroom burgers. YUM. Try one. You won't be disappointed. The bread is all freshly made too, making it even more delightful. If you want to go somewhere a bit out of the ordinary in Hahndorf, come here. It can get really busy during the summer months- especially if you are looking for a table outside.
