My 3rd time seeing Rushmore as cool as it ever was. Scale massive, I knew all the history, visitor center closed, first time driving on back side getting the profile of Washington. Trail below closed, parking free, area closed off to the ampitheater seating, construction. You'll spend 45-hr here and blow more money on the gift shop. Low turnout post Wuhan made it great for getting around. Put it on your list if you haven't been it's worth it. read more

Arrived at 8am with very few people around. The photo opportunities were wonderful! Amazing site and any of the rangers were polite and informative to my questions. Be sure to check out the museum with the show, all very informative and interesting. Gift shop is nice, some items io course over priced, but lots to choose from. We paid $10 for parking and are hoping to return when the monument is lite up. That cost gets us back in today. The Presidential Trail was partially closed but the portion that was open was nice. We didn't eat there so I can't review that. When we left at 10:30 it was getting pretty busy. Wonderful national site and if you're in the area is suggest stopping. read more

Came here on a weekday afternoon, was surprised that parking is paid ($10). More people than I expected for the time we came but not super crowded. Went to the visitor center which had a film playing that talked about the creation of the memorial - didn't really like that explosives were used to ruin nature and build art, but okay. Definitely appreciated the difficulty of carving this out but avidly against blowing up nature for art. Visitor center had quite a bit of information which was nice (and typical for a NPS park). Actual memorial was pretty cool, could see the four faces clearly. Avenue of flags leading up to it was unique too, each flag was attached to a plaque with the state, when it became part of the union, and which number out of 50 it was to join the union. Presidential Trail was closed due to snow though - they're typically open in May and closed by early Nov according to the visitor center employee. Gift shop employees were really friendly, had a lot of options there too. Well made area for sure! read more

Pretty iconic national symbol. A bit more commercial than most NPS sites. Really crowded. Not a whole lot to do but see the carving, but that still makes the trip worth it. Not a top tier NPS site but close. read more

I came here not really have much expectations. In my mind it's a monument of faces carved into the side of a mountain. Upon arrival - though it is exactly what my thought was - the feeling it induced was much more. A reminder of how great our country can be. I was told the area was newly renovated, walking up the steps there is a long row of every flag of American territory and state with Mt. Rushmore being the center at the far end of the walk way. The look out point was large and hosted a good crowd of people without being overly crowded. There is an amphitheater down below that overlooked a stage which hosted an evening movie of the history of our great country and the process of the build of Mt. Rushmore and the history of each president represented and why they were chosen. It was during that show at night that you really feel "American" - sitting under the starry sky of South Dakota - literally shooting stars flying over head - the American flag dancing in the wind. Then a large spot light turns on showcasing Mt. Rushmore floating in the dark. Having gotten to share this moment with my 5 year old daughter was a special one for me - the park ranger had all the veterans and active military members of the crowd join on stage for special recognition. Getting to explain to my daughter what that meant was special. It may not be the most amazing thing I've ever seen but it was definitely one of the most special moments that I'll never forget. read more

Absolutely worth the trip! We live in Colorado and are so happy we took the time to go see such an amazing national monument. My husband enjoyed being able to share with our children how the monument was built back in the day unlike things that are built today. We went fairly early in the morning so there wasn't anyone there to give history or background on it but we still enjoyed everything we were able to see. They definitely have lots of room for cars parking in the lots. read more

The monument is fantastically clean which was very surprising. I was not exactly dressed well for a lot of walking but they make the trails very accessible and I was able to walk the presidential trail with no issue. The gift shop line was exceedingly long and therefore I did not get to visit in like rather abbreviated itinerary of the area, but all in all it was a fantastic experience read more

So it is obviously one of the most iconic places in the world, especially for "Americana". I had heard in the past that when you get there it is much smaller than you expected. I didn't get that. To me, it was quite majestic. So you get there, and if you want a super up close view, you can get in line and park for $10 and go into the visitors area, but you can also very easily use one of the pull-outs on the road, or find the tunnel with the REALLY cool view. We chose to just drive it and take it all in. It was absolutely beautiful!!! Besides the obvious history, if you have seen Team America, you can't help but imagine the home base. I stopped by Mt.Rushmore on my cross country trip and I do have to say, there's not too much to stop for here. I got here in the evening and in September. They do a evening lighting service that lasted about 20 minutes which was very interesting. But the trail to see Mt.Rushmore was pretty short and it's very small when you look from a distance so don't expect to get a picture like you see on tv/pictures lol! Otherwise, it was cool to stop by, learn a little more about history, and walk around. But I probably wouldn't go out of my way to stop by again if I drove through South Dakota. There is a fee to park and that is the only way to get in as well. read more

Went 1st weekend of October and had the place almost to ourselves! Supercool and short trip from Rapid City. Most of the shops in Keystone just closed for end of season the day before but the upside is worth it. Weather was great and thanks to all the people with dogs who let our kids pet them! 2 hrs max with the trail hike and a run through the exhibit hall and gift shops. It was a great reminder that not everyone in America hates everyone else in America!!! read more

There is something about being able to view this monument that just takes your breath away. We've seen it on tv and just about every American is familiar with the four stone presidents. Yet as you pull around the bend, surrounded by huge, towering stone and see George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt and Abe Lincoln looking down over you, it becomes a highly emotional moment. The freedoms we have in this country aren't perfect but they were hard earned and fought for with the sweat and purpose. Men who believed in civil rights and fought for the people. The park was under renovation while we were there but it was still a fantastic sight. The Presidential trail was half open and we were still able to hike up to the carving. The rangers were very knowledgeable and as we hiked up the side of the mountain we were able to get breathtaking views of Mt. Rushmore and the surrounding areas. This is a bucket list voyage for any one who loves American history. You step back in time and are face to face with an American wonder. It is something that will always be with me and a memory I was able to create with my family. read more

Everyone knows the monument, but visiting is worth the trip. The museum has grown so much over the years, so much interesting US history! What an iconic and unforgettable landmark to visit! This was on our bucket list for years, and we finally took the opportunity to go with our kiddos. It is a beautiful place, with great hiking opportunities and breathtaking views. And of course, a wonderful educational experience for those who visit. There is an endless wealth of material to study here, from its architecture to the famous presidents that grace its mountain- and every bit of history in between. So much to do and see, and the amenities were great. Souvenirs, lunch options and clean restrooms aplenty- there's definitely something for everyone here. You can go explore on your own, in addition to taking advantage of the numerous guided tours available. Wish we could have stayed longer, but this was a brief stop on visit to Montana- I'd definitely love to come back and enjoy Mt. Rushmore if we have the opportunity again in the future. read more

Mount Rushmore is gorgeous, sample everyone see but I'm going to focus this review on how pathetic the state of South Dakota in the federal government is. They don't want to take control of the Yellow Pages so therefore consumers get to do whatever they want and as you can see someone has cropped the picture and added a pic of Donald Trump to their yelp page. Again the people of the state of South Dakota don't want to knowledge that YELP is more powerful than their own website, hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people viewing their yelp page every day getting directions, looking at pictures and reading reviews about the state park. Most small businesses take responsibility for the YELP page but the federal government and the state of South Dakota chooses not to and now they're very very popular your page is being abused by jackasses. read more

I can't believe I'm only giving Mt Rushmore a 3 star review, but so much of the viewing area is closed that it was a disappointment. When we planned the trip it was still open (along with the two cave based National Parks which are also both closed now thanks to elevator problems). It was still worth the trip but certainly not deserving of more then 3 stars in its current condition. read more

WOW! I didn't think you would be able to see it as well as you could. It is amazing. We did the walking trail and got some wonderful photos. I spoke to one of the park rangers and he was super friendly and helpful. As with most locations like this you have people going off trail even thought it is posted not to. You can damage the Eco system and not even realize it. The area was very well kept up. In fact they were painting areas when we were there. My only suggestion would be carry more larger sized t-shirts in the gift shop. read more

Did the whole light up at night ceremony. The monument annd ceremony is awesome. Charging $10 for cars and $20 for RV parking is not awesome. Trying to sell the concept that you pay to park once and then can use for the entire year is insulting to tourists..yeah, that works for locals but not tourists. The whole visitor complex is very nice with pavilion seating and honoring vets. Very patriotic. read more

Yep, it's Mt. Rushmore! I have always wanted to stop here and it lived up to the hype. A truly amazing spot and a gorgeous area. Big stone faces of some real good dudes but it has a lot of background and inside information. The stories of how and who built it are interesting, funny and it's sort of scary to think about people hanging on the face of this mountain to make it happen. read more

A must-visit for anyone in the area. I was so excited to visit, and don't get me wrong, I'm glad I did. I enjoyed it, but was a wee bit disappointed. The crowds are pretty heavy, and you're constantly dodging the cameras taking pics of friends & family. I would have liked to have taken a walk on a path, and may have been happier had I done so. The visitor center was closed for construction, so that was disappointing. Glad I visited, but I wouldn't likely make a special trip again. read more

It's really nice to see the president's face however, you can see and take pictures from outside the gates. I can't recall how much it cost to get inside but it would definitely be worth the experience if you want to get up close and personal. I can't say it's super dandy and awesome because I hate touristy things but I think it's worth being a one-time stop. I would definitely stop by in the future with my kiddos just so they can get to experience it but would I come often, probably not. However, outside of Rushmore, there are a ton of things to do. Ie. Lakes, swimming, rock climbing, etc. read more

I do appreciate the paths and bridges that allow people to walk closer to get different views of the president's heads! That was an added feature this round!!!
