14th Street Subway At 6th Avenue aka Avenue of the Americas I've said it before and I'm repeating myself again. There's lots of entrance and exits for a particular Subway Station. This area of 14th Street has both at 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue. I love this station. The sculpture displayed is unique and fun. You won't see my photos because I'm usually with my daughter when I visit this neighborhood. The station is located near some of our favorite stores. She has absolutely no patience when I want to stop to take photos. I don't ask when we're in a subway station. I'm definitely going back alone to get the photos I long for. I enjoy hanging out all along 14th Street. Here's a little information about the artist. Tom Otterness (born 1952) is an American sculptor best known as one of America's most in the world of public art. Otterness's works adorn parks, plazas, subway stations, libraries, courthouses and museums around the world. The 14th Street 6th Avenue New York Subway Station is one of my all time favorite. Pretty nice subway station in Brooklyn which has plenty of traffic in Manhattan, in the cute area sandwiched between the villages and Chelsea, near a lot of The Nightlife. You change here sometimes to get to Brooklyn and the station is fine. read more

This is, indeed, the pinnacle of public transport in the US. Does that make it the best in the world? Absolutely not, but there's a reason all other public transit networks are scaled against it. Speed, reliability and coverage alone just can't be beaten in NYC, I'm sorry to offend fanboys of their city's public transit. (And I'm not even from NYC). It's just the default measuring stick, with WMTA a pretty distant second. To people who are legitimately complaining about dirt, are you trying to roll around in it? Make use of your shoes, Nancy. This ain't a beauty contest, it's about moving you from one place to the next ASAP. Which, by being continuously named the best public transit network in the US, it's pretty damn good at. read more

Not particularity clean, not particularly sanitary--but the older Spaniard plays a mean guitar. The instruments sweet notes mesh poorly with the hemming ans hawing produced by the homeless upstairs. They're sounds are more akin to that of the Creedmore choir. Trains run fairly well when they should and lack when off peak. The station could use a nice new can of paint -- more like three hundred cans. read more

14th street is the air-magma of New York City. Do you like to go to Miami in July? Sure, who doesn't? Do you like to go to Miami in July and wear your ski gear? No, probably not. There are few things hotter than 14th street in the summer. Even passing through on the 6 - when those doors open, that heat punches you in the face with its invisible, but very real fist of underground awfulness. It's an abysmal sweat festival that nobody wants to buy tickets to and I avoid unnecessary existence here at all costs. Last time I was here, I waited three minutes to transfer from the L to the indefinitely delayed 6, and in that time no less than 71% of my dress shirt was soaked. However, it's not all bad. The station itself is fairly large - it's a complex labyrinth of walkways and staircases that lends itself to a navigational challenge that most people can conquer without issue. There is always some sort of performance going on, so if you're not in the headphone zone or in a rush, entertainment does exist. A lot of trains go here, and Union Square itself is a cool area to hang out in. But holy hell, it's hot in here. On the plus side, the warmth is a welcome respite from the cold outside in the winter, so that'll be fun...three months from now. So at least there's that. One star for temperature regulation, four for just about everything else. read more

This subway station is so active it's rare to not see anyone here standing waiting for a train. Station is the pit stop for connecting to the #1,2,3,M, F and L train. Not to forget the PATH signs plastered at the station. You will definitely get a workout walking to the connecting train, but all worth it as you step into an air-conditioned train. Ahh... relief. If you missed it another one is coming right behind especially when it comes to the F train during rush hour. Do not pay no mind to the rats. They just looking for food. Why do people still run after the train these days? Too many trains coming and so many that they have to stop and wait for other trains to move along. Mass Transit for the massive amount of NYC riders. Not too crazy about the homeless peeps who just live at the benches. Hey, NYC government are there any assistance to help these people out. The 14th street and 6th avenue F/M/L/123 station is a great hub and transfer point; there's a good variety of performers and musicians that can be seen here at any given time. I've been seeing Zachary, who plays guitar and sings Beatles songs, here for years. I like that it's unrenovated, complete with gum-flecked concrete platforms. People seem to like it when stations get all tiled-up and dolled-up, but I like seeing the original tiles, no matter how broken or shabby. Rats? They're in every station; get used to it. In fact, these tiles--at least on the F platform--are in pretty good condition; this station is one stop up from the Washington Square station on the F/M line, and as such is roughly the same age. F trains? Could be worse; they run pretty regularly. I like the way the L train connects the F/M and 1,2,3 trains, although it can be a pain to transfer from the F to the 1. All in all, a very useful station, and it was even more useful when we had St. Vincent's hospital here. read more

Tiny but powerful! This station is small and can be confusing to navigate, but offers access to several fairly reliable train lines. Beware that if you enter on the wrong side of 6th Ave, it is really difficult to switch to the other track without leaving the station, as you must walk through the L platform. There is a mezzanine level above the platform, but it does not provide access to the other direction track, so the mezzanine is infrequently used and gets a little shady. When waiting for the downtown F or M, try to stand at the North end of the platform, close to the 16th St entrance, as it tends to be cleaner and there is much less traffic. There is also a trash storage room at the South end, near 14th, which can smell pretty horrific. read more

It was easy enough... but the whole station is underground...not a very impressive station...but has all the main train lines you are looking for are defiantly located here...so if you want to transfer this is the place to be....but its also a bad thing ...since There are so many different train/subway lines going through it that it's a bit of a madhouse... but the signage was good and helpful.... read more

You can get the F/M line as well as the L & 1/2/3 from here. It's pretty much your typical dirty subway station. Getting from the L to the 1/2/3 & vice versa is a bit of a hike so make sure you leave time if you're doing that route. You'll sometimes see rats on the tracks but thankfully, I haven't seen any on the platform here since there are usually enough people to scare them off. Sometimes you'll see performers, as well as the occasional artist & writer. I once saw a comic book guy but not sure if he still comes around. In other words, this is another one of those subway stations where you'll get the real NYC experience. read more

It's a subway station in New York City. There are cramped somewhat dirty. They move millions of people probably on a weekly basis. This one station was pretty cool thou. It had little bronze characters all over the station like the alligator crawling out of a man hole cover eating a little cash headed man. There was even a group of little guys handing up the steel beam next to the stairway. So we caught our train to 3rd ave so we can go to our favourite dessert shop in Manhattan. So till next time. The NYC subway system has come a long way from decades ago and I have to say that they're pretty darn clean now and fun to use once you get the hang of it. Do yourself two favors tho' before using...1) get a rechargeable MTA card and 2) download the "Transit" app (green/free). Oh, & if you miss a ride there's another minutes away! read more

14th street this is a good transfer hub, I use this to get to L train mostly. I guess spend more time on this line especially on a normal work day. Usually when I switch for the L train, it is for a party or late night gathering in Williamsburg. I don't mind the walk sometimes if I am going from 14th and 7th all the way to Union square or third avenue, but now it is pretty cold outside. Quick trek if you hop on the train, well at least with an unlimited card so you don't have to pay again. 14th and 6th, F train runs pretty efficient and once you get to the L train downstairs the PHONE service works. It is one of the few stations you get full service underground, they built some new towers right there a year or two ago. The picture here tells the story, there are usually some subway performers here in the underground station. I am sure the backdrop was also used in some movies filmed in New York, it looks very familiar. read more

Maybe 150 times I've been thru here. To be honest, this place is a rat race. Leave/Enter the L train last/first stop respectively. go up stairs/ramp to the 14th St exit or A, C, E train for transfer. Lots of metal structures for your Bernie amusement. Wifi available under TransitWifi. Typical but clean and well-lit station compared to the other stations in NYCT. Not many panhandlers or performers but still nice to walk around. read more
