Honest and efficient. Was told I needed new brake pads by Les Schwab during routine tire rotation but their quote was ridiculous. Called around and these guys had a great price and I could bring in same day. I brought the car in and he told me I didn't need new brake pads for a long time and actually called Les Schwab and spoke with them too. That's when I knew I would be a customer for life since I live in Martinez. It's hard to find honest people these days! I've brought my car back for several tuneups - oil change prices are also better than the local oil change locations. I also had my transmission replaced and eventually my brake pads replaced. I brought my car to MTZ Auto Repair at the end of 2024 because it was leaking oil and I smelled smoke. I usually go to the Kia dealership in Stockton, but MTZ was closer and had good reviews. They took my car in the same day and later told me the problem was the water pump, even though I had recently replaced it and the issue was an oil leak. I trusted their judgment anyway. After they said the car was finished, they called again and told me it suddenly wouldn't start. I was later told the key was no longer communicating with the car's computer. They ended up taking my car to a Kia dealership without my request because they couldn't diagnose the issue themselves. After weeks of delays, I was told I needed a new computer costing over $2,000. I couldn't afford that, so they offered a workaround by installing a push-button start under the steering wheel, which they said they discounted for the inconvenience. This entire process took over a month, during which I had to rent a car to get to work. When I picked my car up, I was shocked to see I was charged for the Kia dealership diagnostic (even though MTZ chose to take it there), and the water pump repair. To make things worse, the original problem was never fixed. My car was still leaking oil and I still smelled smoke. I had to take it to another mechanic, who actually addressed the issue. A year later, I'm still dealing with problems starting my car because of the push-button setup, which fails every couple of months unless I pay thousands for a new computer. I brought my car in running and left with more problems, more expenses, and long-term issues. I would not recommend this shop. read more

Had my F150 repaired at MTZ after getting ridiculous estimates from Ford service. They did a great job for probably less than half the cost. Today is my second visit with my wife's car (explorer) - AC not working. They checked my car for free, pointed out a possible leak in the refrigeration line and advised me to go to Ford as the car still new and should be under warranty. Honestly is everything! Big hooray for MTZ's knowledge and integrity. Brought my 2018 Sonata in, because it had begun running rough and lacked power. The MTZ crew looked at it, and recommended I take it to the dealer, because the issue might be covered by the dealer's extended power-train warranty. The problem ended up being serious (as MTZ had said it might be) and it was covered by my warranty. So no cost to fix it. MTZ saved me thousands! MTZ was great to work with for a sudden starting issue on a 1997 Hyundai. After a short consult with Billy via phone, we were able to coordinate a tow the next day to MTZ. With a busy day, I wasn't able to attend the tow/drop off, but that was no problem. They received the car, diagnosed and called me in less than 2 hours with an initial report. Car was ready early afternoon and I was able to pick it up at days end.
