The chicharron had a great flavor but the "skin" wasn't that crispy and had a chewy texture. The flan wasn't that sweet and had more of a vanilla extract flavor. I didn't care for it. Overall, the food was disappointing. However, the ambiance was very lively and featured live music. The waitress wasn't the greatest. I asked for water, but she gave us a bottle of water instead - which I found out later was $4! It wasn't a fancy brand of water either. I would have appreciated a heads up that there was a cost for water, especially since tap water is usually provided for free at most restaurants. Double check your bill. An automatic 20% tip was added to the receipt (it wasn't disclosed to us), and we were not part of a group. read more

It was a Friday afternoon around 1pm when we arrived, there were like 2 or 3 other parties but it seemed like the slow start to their day. The tables are so close together you cannot get between two tables or have any privacy to have a conversation because the next table is almost 5 inches away from each other they did not have spacing at all. The service was a bit slow and there was a lot of confusion with the menu. The server later on brought a wrinkly paper printed menu that she had found somewhere. We were a party of 3 and were mostly looking to share a few plates. So we started off with the mofonguitos de lomo, they were good and freshly made to order. We also ordered the parrillada Venezolana which was a good plate to share but it lacked with the presentation and portions, flavor wise it was good and tasty but this stake did not come out at the requested medium term. It almost seemed like this was a reheated piece of steak. And the chorizo was on the rather dry side, also seemed reheated. I wish the main entree would've been freshly made to order and at the right temperature. After we ordered drinks and we had picked out what to order, we had to wait a long time before we could flag down the waitress to come back to us. This should have been our first warning. I ordered the poke tacos and truffle fries while my husband ordered their "famous" burger. My tacos came out within 5 minutes of ordering. I was waiting for my husband's food to arrive before I would eat mine, as meals should be served together. After 5-10 minutes I ate one out of three tacos and let him have a portion while we were still waiting on his food. After 25-30 minutes they brought out the truffle fries, which we split while still waiting for his meal. I ate my second out of three tacos. I waited 15-20 more minutes to eat my last taco as my husband was polishing off the fries. After a hour from ordering, my husband received his burger. At this point, this burger better be gold. It was just okay. He ordered it medium well and it was over well done and didn't have any flavor in the meat or burger itself. Wasn't worth the wait, but again we were starving. At least my tacos were pretty great! The truffle fries really should have just been called Parmesan fries. Once we finished, which was within 5 minutes of my husband finishing his burger, we had to flag down our waitress again to get the check. At this point it felt like she was avoiding us, as we were both able to use the bathroom separately while waiting for her to appear again to ask for the check. The server was very nice, she greeted us as soon as we walked in and invited us to sit wherever we liked. Everything was good, but if you're like me you might have to watch your blood pressure because some of these dishes were heavy on the salt like the burger and the Arepitas de Pernil. It was pretty busy today and the service staff was on point. It looks like they really do work as a team. It's a pretty small space and can get loud easily when they have music playing or a band. Since last year, i've been wanting to try out this place and have been told many times to check it out. I came by a couple times last year but it was always beyond packed! The brown paper on the tables instead of table cloths is deceptive but also part of the entire experience. I can only say a big WOW for the food!!! Finally I found some good food around this area so I'm glad I found this place. Came here for a dinner with a friend and it is pretty cool location. It is in the back of a gasoline station and lots of parking space. The interior is nice and simple, it feels homey. They offer menu scanner which is convenient. I got my main dish from the appetizer which is mofonguitos, it is mofongo with meat. It was good, the meat is well seasoned, the plantain is not so soft and not so hard. I had made birthday reservations but due to a coming storm the restaurant closed business that day so we had to reschedule our reservation for a few days later. They brought it out with a candle and sang Happy birthday to me, it was a plus that even though my original reservation was for my birthday they remembered and did it that day. The only negative is that all the cocktails were wine based and if I'm paying for a cocktail I want liquor in my drink. We had just recently stopped by Mu this past weekend for dinner since we have been hearing about it around town and decided to give it a try. The parrilla venezolana was a HUGE board of meats and sides (grilled pork, steak, chorizo, yucca fries, arepas, tostones, fried cheese) which was definitely enough to feed 2. There was not one thing on that board we did not like as it was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Lastly, the bread pudin to wrap up the entire meal was just the cherry on top the cake.
