Moreover, the scale of the school demands an intimate student/teacher relationship and enables relationships to build throughout the school life of the child. There are lots of extra curricular activities available here: dance and drama; athletics, netball and cricket, calligraphy and Wayfarers Bible activities amongst others.

The school is divided into two buildings, and essentially three areas: reception children are effectively segregated from the burly year-ones and "tops". For years 3-6, children go up to "juniors". There is also a nursery available through the week. The headteacher and many of the school teachers have changed since I was there, so I can't comment on teaching standards. With regards to the school building itself, there have been some improvements with new entrance doors, an enhanced play area, and new dining facilities. The building was decrepit when I attended school here; with smashed window, exposed brick work and a dirty, positively dangerous playing field, it needed more than a lick of paint. St Edmunds is quite a large school and accepts children from outside of the area and christian denomination, besides those of St Edmund's and/or St Thomas's parish. While I myself represent the progeny of this school, there is some stigma attached to St Edmund's and St Thomas's relating to the sector of society it welcomes or rather, acquires. Many feel it is one of the least respected schools,that is less exclusive- less posh, basically. I don't know whether that's fair to say, in my opinion it is true to some extent but not necessarily a disadvantage.

Over all I have to say the performance was pretty good for one done by kids and teens. And there were certainly a couple real stars mingled in there with the average off-key Johns and Janes. However, I was really not impressed by the fact that they had chosen to produce this particular play--I'd never seen it before, so I didn't really know beforehand that the main character was a girl who worked in a brothel. Not exactly edifying or acceptable subject matter for a school play, in my opinion. I kind of want to berate the school for that. Shame on them. If you go see a play here you will get your moneys worth. They definitely put a lot of work into their productions. The theatre itself is a bit drab and could really use some refurbishing, but then most school theatres could.

Recently qualified with the Academy of Dental Nursing with the help of the amazing team. Elaine the…read moretutor is very knowledgeable, explains everything very thoroughly and is always happy to go over anything more than once if there is something you are struggling with. Charmian the assessor is also amazing at her job, from making you feel so comfortable when she comes to the practice to observe to marking workbooks and always giving lots of feedback on what you did well and what you need to improve on. They both made getting the qualification so much easier and I can't thank them enough. Glenn the managing director of the academy is equally as helpful as Elaine and Charmian. Glenn has always been happy to help me with any queries regarding the course and got back to me so quickly any time I emailed. I started the course with very little knowledge on dental nursing and have come out a qualified dental nurse and I couldn't have done it without the academy. I couldn't recommend them enough!

The clubs available are rather unlike most schools in the area which offer football/netball, Waterloo offer ballet classes for years one and two, rugby, fencing and basketball. There is excellent pastoral support, which again is well reputed and the school is very active in the community. I don't believe it's one of the "big name" schools of the area, i.e. high profile, but I'm not sure why, it sounds fantastic.

I know 4 children who attend at the minute and 2 that have left…read more The teachers are just fab, one of my god daughters has learning problems and they are more that great at accomodating her needs. they have a zero tolorence attitude to bullying and is a great place for children to grow into happy teenagers. The building itself is beautiful as is the playground it has a pencil fence which is very cute for the kiddies.They also have a nursery attached to the school so its easier to feed children from there.
