Coming to Mexico for the first time for a destination wedding was exciting. But that feeling…read morequickly disappeared and turned into despair after unpacking at the hotel and determining that the pants to my black suit was still as home. The wedding was in two days, what am I going to do? How was I going to get a black pair of pants in a foreign land? Checking with the porter/doorman at our hotel, he recommended the department store across the street and that I should be able to get a pair of black dress pants.
The next morning, I headed to El Nuevo Mundo for their opening at 10am. I headed to the men's department and the vestir, dress clothes section. I looked through the pants racks and found a pair of black pants that was similar to my suit. The pants were not hemmed and the clerk had me try on the pants and measured me for hemming. He said it would be ready in an hour. I paid for the pants and came back in an hour and my pants were ready for pickup.
The pants were just a shade lighter than my suit, but it was close and it saved me for our friend's wedding. The service at El Nuevo Mundo was great! With my limited Spanish, the clerk and I were able to get me the final product in one hour. Oh, the hemming was included in the cost of the pants. The cost? $16US. What a deal! So great our hotel doorman recommended El Nuevo Mundo.
