I recently visited the Mueller area and took some time to hang out at the park. This park is so spectacular - amazing - one of kind ... all words that come to my head when thinking about this space. It's definitely a place I would love to hang out every day. If I lived nearby I'd be enjoying the park at least 5 times a week probably. I love the playground they have for the kids, plus the trail that goes all the way around the lake/pond. There are actual fish in the water - I saw a guy fishing. Plus there are ducks and birds all around. There is a pavilion with large pillars, tables and benches all throughout too. I can picture events, birthdays, play dates, exercise routines, kite flying, soccer practice and games of tag and hide seek at this park. This is a community space that should be enjoyed by all. Super clean and nice. We brought our dog and he had a blast. Lots of people but not crowded. There are people who let their dog off of their leash which I don't like because my dog is dog aggressive and most people can't control their dogs when they're off leash. Otherwise no complaints. I came here for the Strut Your Mutt fundraiser and was taken by surprise, this is one beautiful park! The lush green grass is somewhat rare in the beginning of September in Texas. The lake has a gorgeous spouting fountain surrounded by various types of ducks and geese (thanks Tracey S for taking good care of them). A trail makes its way around Mueller Lake and is used by a community of runners, walkers, cyclists and the four legged patrons. Speaking of four legged friends, the park is quipped with doggie poo bags so use them please. This is a perfect place for a picnic, to read a book, take a nice walk or just sit on a bench and take in a lovely day. read more

Wow where did this place come from?! I have been away from Austin the past few years and came back to all sorts of amazing places like this one. The development around this park is simply amazing. The park itself is very quiet and had ducks swimming in the lake and running around everywhere. It really feels like you are in the wilderness. They have a play ground area for the kids and a very nice walking trail around the place. The coolest thing about this park is the new "Thinkery" establishment. I am unfamiliar with this but heard it was like brain games for kids basically which is spectacular. Anything to smarten up this next generation. Oh and there was two people doing some sort of areobatic yoga right in front of the building which was pretty neat. And they have a great food place outside of the thinkery place also, healthy food awaits! Load your kids and pets up check this place out! read more

Many of these reviews are outdated. This park is...different now. It's changed over the years. Stop by on a Friday evening or a Saturday, beer and cursing and fights. I decided to stop by last Monday morning with my son and was upset with all the trash everywhere. Cigarette butts, beer cans, fast food wrappers and miscellaneous trash. I think it's a shame. I thought this new park would bring positive change and transition to the old neighborhood. Wrong. There's a nicer, smaller playground down the road. It's off that Philomena Street. Or just pay for the Thinkery and use their awesome playground. The bonus to Mueller park-great trails and ducks everywhere. The trash in lake is not cool. I guess it's a different scene to different people. I just want Austin to maintain its beauty. read more

This is a beautiful and scenic park that's gradually become overcrowded on weekends. There isn't much parking (intentional in this walkable community), however people are drawn into the park from outside the neighborhood (also intentional). The parking lot is nearly always full on nice weekends. Be extra cautious driving in the area of the park because the roads are narrow and cars are typically parked on both sides. On Sundays, the farmer's market in the old hangar draws still greater crowds. The situation will only get worse as Mueller Town Center develops. Construction on the Children's Museum across the street from the park will draw more people into the area. A parking garage is planned, but this will draw even more to the area. I'd like to think the area's developers have thought about all of this. The children's play area (just across from the Children's Museum) has a great array of neat equipment, mostly for children under the age of 10 or so. Everyone seems to get along great despite the overcrowding. Parents & grandparents, bring your folding chairs because the benches inside the play area are frequently full on weekends. Lastly, I have to agree with others who mentioned keeping dogs leashed. If you want a leash-free park, please take your dogs elsewhere. THIS IS NOT AN OFF-LEASH PARK! read more

As other reviewers have said, this is a pretty perfect park for a nice, easy walk. It's definitely a suburban green space, but the lake and ducks/swans/geese make it easy to forget that for a brief moment. (Side note: Please don't feed the birds! Seriously, just don't do it - there are a ton of reasons why this is a bad idea, but I mainly don't want to be harassed by aggressive geese every time I'm eating a sandwich in this park.) It has lots of picnic tables to eat at, and there's even a fire pit (though I'm sure you need like, 1200 different permits to use it). There's also a playscape for the little ones. My two complaints about this park are that a) It's like, impossible to find a drinking fountain here for some very strange reason, and b) there's no dog area and dogs are required to be on-leash at all times. I don't even have a dog, but it seems silly that there's no off-leash area at such a huge park! Anyway - this park is awesome and you should go to it. read more

I absolutely love this park. It offers so much to almost every demographic. There are various restaurants and other venus which are all walking distance. During the day there are various events and a hustle and bustle which gives it an energetic vibe. In the evenings it is a great place to enjoy the sunset and an evening stroll. The park is so peaceful and serene at night, the fountain at the center of the pond against the lights makes it seem something out of an impressionistic dream. In the realm of parks, this place is top notch! As an Austin resident you tend to get a little snobby when it comes to parks. There is so much great real estate in town that anything less than great is considered sub par. Mueller has been a a favorite of mine since it opened. Obviously it's new so the equipment is also new, but it goes farther than that. 1.) There are great attractions around including food trucks, and awesome (send beautiful) lake, a greenbelt like running trail, and a grocery store. 2.) Although it can get packed, the park has a lot of really good equipment that the kids can play on, and when they get tired there ate plenty of picnic tables to sit at. 3. The children's museum is right next door, so you can literally plan out a whole day for the family and keep it all in the same vicinity which is invaluable as a parent. I definitely recommend this park for anyone that is visiting, or who lives within 20 minutes. read more

There are normally dogs here at the park and being a dog lover I love that. I feel like every now and then you have some pets that are off leash. I am typically okay with that when the pet is well behaved. The vibe I get here is that people prefer others to have their dog on a leash. I guess it's a silly unwritten rule here. read more

I absolutely LOVE this park. Since having moved to East Austin I am here at least once a week. The park is so beautiful and has such a nice energy with so many people out and about enjoying it. Beautiful park surrounding the Thinkery, Whichcraft, and Bribery bakery. There's lots to do and see here, and it's a perfect place to take your kids and take photos. The playground is "high-tech" and super fancy because it had odd-looking playscapes and structures. The lake is great and there's tons of wildlife to see. The farmers market is on Sunday underneath the hangar. Parking gets crowded after school hours and on weekends, but you can park in the parking garage by the Alamo Drafthouse. read more

Mueller Lake Park is the most beautiful manmade park in Austin. The park is loveliest on typical Austin days of cloudless blue skies when the leaves are green. This park has 5 miles of trails according to the website. If you do an "in-and-out" path of the trails from 51st Street @ I-35 to Berkman Dr, it'll add up to around 4.5-5 miles. Most of the trails are easy-on-the-knees crushed gravel. Only the section around the lake is mostly concrete. There is almost no shade on the trails so use sunscreen. There's a fire station, Dell Children's Hospital, food trailer park, Sunday farmer's market, playgrounds, picnic tables, neighborhoods, and apartments embedded in the park. North of the Simond Avenue parking lot across from the red building "Thinkery" is a public restroom with handsoap, hand dryer, and hand sanitizer. My favorite places to park are along the street near the Aldrich @ Simond intersection and the Simond Avenue parking lot. The Simond Avenue parking lot provides direct access to the duck area. Mueller Lake Park is a great place for little kids to play, meet other kids, and gain an appreciation of wild waterfowl. However, most kids here do no such thing and instead chase, throw unhealthy food at, throw rocks at (and have even killed) the defenseless ducks. In fact, if you have kids, watch which kids they make friends with here because many of the kids here have negligent parents and belong to the "Future Criminals of America" club. Heck, I even see a lot of parents chasing ducks with their kids--very deplorable. Mueller Lake is the worst lake to dump your ducks. A lot of humans either abuse them or feed them bread; hawks, herons, loose dogs, coyotes, and stray fish hooks and fishing line also kill them. The nests have a low chance of hatching because every time there's a medium rain, all the water in the Mueller sewer system comes here and the lake fills up very fast, submerging the nests each time. Nests often get destroyed by kids, too (read negligent parents). The majority of dumped waterfowl have some emotional or physical problems (secondary human imprinting, moderate-to-severe niacin deficiency, inability to forage for natural foods, fear of water/lack of waterproofness, etc...) There are tons of trash on the grounds, shores, and water. The park employee works very hard trying to keep the grounds and facilities clean. Ducks often get caught in trash or eat plastic. Each evening I like to check each duck's body is clear of foreign objects that could hinder their escape from predators. This lake has 16 dumped white and brown Chinese and African geese. Mueller Lake is a catch-and-release pond (but people have complained that some fishermen kept the non-rainbow trout fish). I often see people fishing there. Too often they leave behind stray fishing line that gets caught around the waterfowl's feet and hinder their ability to escape from predators or fish hooks that get caught on the duck's body or worse, swallowed. If you take your dog walking here, PLEASE keep them on a leash or they'll chase/kill the ducks/geese. Ducks and geese shouldn't be chased because their legs could easily sustain injuries running too fast. In addition, the duckling survival rate here is 0% because the dogs get the ducklings. :'-( There should be a sign here to keep dogs on a leash (park rules). I see so many loose dogs. Tips for feeding the ducks: - Spread the healthy duck food (not bread) far apart on grass or soft dirt to minimize fighting. - Place duck food on CLEAN surfaces (without small litter or bird droppings). They can get sick eating contaminated food. Do NOT throw food into the water. Uneaten food can grow bacteria that eventually causes the ducks death. - Place duck food far away from the human/dog traffic areas and as CLOSE to the water as possible. If dogs suddenly come, the ducks have a quick escape route. - Feed them as close to the lake as possible so they can drink and have an escape route. Do not feed them in parking lots or places near streets. Safety is the priority. - Walking on concrete or rough rocks is tough on duck feet so when they fly or run toward you, encourage them to land on grass. - If small ducklings are nearby, either make sure they are able to eat without interference from other adult ducks or DON'T FEED ANY DUCKS at that time. It's easy for the fragile little ducklings to get trampled in the frenzy of competing with adult ducks for food. - Keep ducklings from the adult food--give them only crushed food so they won't choke. (Make sure the ducklings are always near their Mother and that their Mother does not get distracted by the food.) - Make sure the ducks take water breaks while eating so they don't choke. A passerby witnessed a duck choking to death while people were throwing bread in July 2014. Mueller Lake Park is wonderful park , set in a mixed residential/ commercial city landscape. The park itself has nicely maintained sidewalk paths for walking/jogging/riding bikes and a wonderful kids playground. The main attraction for me to Mueller is the combination of park/pond,farmer's market on Sundays and the Thinkery kids science museum within walking distance. So we make a day of it and stay in Mueller for hours, at times - walking the paths, visiting ducks, shopping at the farmers market, hitting up the Thinkery and and creating a ruckus wherever we go. The one downside is that this is a very popular area. It is often crowded and parking can be troublesome. Also, there is continual development. Worth the trouble and your time! read more

This park is a fantastic piece of 78723 (East Central). Where else in Austin can you view downtown, find plenty of trails, open fields, playgrounds, unique architecture, a "lake," ducks, an ampitheater stage, and ample parking? Right here, where the old Austin airport used to be. Sure, you could say Zilker rules, but it really doesn't. It's overcroweded, parking can be a pain in the arse, not to mention the traffic and the ruthless runners of Zilker around Town Lake who will run you over. There have been many times that I have come here to see a random boot camp being run for a few people in one of the fields. Sometimes there's people doing yoga in groups or just by themselves. There is plenty of space in this huge park to find a secluded area, use picnic tables for a party, or bring your own picnic and spread out. It's nice to see family's walking and enjoying the outdoors, lover's holdings hands as they walk the trails or sitting by the water watching the sunset. The landscape is kept up very nicely, and is always green. The scenery along with the architecture is fantastic, the ducks and geese aren't too friendly but you get that anywhere. Another added plus: By the pavillion they have several well known food trailers like MMMpanadas, ShortBus Subs & Me Llamo Taco. It is clear this park has it all. read more

This is a cute park, there is a paved walking trail where kids and dogs can roam. There is a nice lake area with stones that you can sit on and just enjoy the view. I went to an outdoor HIIT class and there is abundant spaces for doing exercises or just laying out. There is a nice hanger area where there are picnic tables where you can convene with a group large or small, there are porta potties nearby. My favorite thing, aside from the well-manicured trails, playground, and pond, is the diversity it attracts because of it's location in a transitioning part of town. Mueller Lake Park is my favorite thing about this past week. Being new-ish to Austin, every area of town is something new and fun to discover. I had heard of the Thinkery and was looking forward to going, but had no idea what was around it! We went to Mueller Lake Park this past weekend for a local event being hosted there. I am obsessed with this park now. First off, it is gorgeous and very well maintained. Beautiful lakes, landscaping, huge lawns to play and amazing walking paths. Lots of beautiful things to look at and playgrounds and open space to play! All of this awesomeness is right next to food trucks, Alamo drafthouse and an irish pub too! I am glad we discovered this area of town. I have a feeling we will be frequenting this park! read more

Thanks, Hoa, for Yelping about this new park! Based on your advice, we decided to take the kids out there to burn off some energy before we all sat down to chomp down our Thanksgiving dinner. We were not disappointed. This park truly is amazing. The playscape structures are like none other in town. Instead of the standard plastic molded pieces, these are largely made up of cables, metal fastenings and rivets, and lots of kinetic motion. The entire area is fenced, so parents can relax on the many park benches scattered throughout. There are so many interesting touches about the place - for instance, the kids loved the water fountains, which featured a "pop-up" type dispenser, sort of like a pop-up sprinkler head. There is also a small water spigot in the sand box area so that kids can get the sand wet for better building. And there is even a water fountain for dogs. Clean bathrooms are just a few steps away, and I must say I've never before seen any public park bathroom sinks that I would like to have in my own house, but now I have. They are slick. Next time we come to the park, we are going to bring bikes, because there are lots of gravel paths everywhere for easy, safe family riding. Great place. Almost makes me want to move out to Mueller myself . read more

All-around great park. Walking trails, fields, lake, pavilions, food trucks... Everything. I visit parks to do agility drills, and compared to most parks in Austin it was far more spacious, had a better view, offered more things to do, and had more well-kept grass. As an added bonus - parking is easy, and there are food trucks right next to the parking lot. 5 out of 5. I'll be back. read more

I live very near this park. It is beautifully landscaped. There are trails that ride around man made lakes that have waterfalls, fountains and ponds. There are interesting sculptures placed throughout the park. I love that the park has tried to create different environments throughout, for example there are prairie grass land areas and cacti dessert areas. It does get crowded near the lake with families picnicking and enjoying themselves. There is a gravel trail around the perimeter of the park where I ride bike. It's a pretty short trail but very scenic. The park is near the old airport which is also very interesting to see. As I ride my bike around the park I am sometimes taken a back by the beautiful sweeping views you will get of downtown and the hills in the South. I think this is a beautiful park. I can't give it five stars because it is all man made, not real nature. read more

Stop by Bribery Bakery for a delicious browned butter pineapple cake or some fabulous coffee. Head to the parking lot to the west and feast on goodies from food trucks. Still 5 stars. Someone else said the reviews are outdated, and I vehemently disagree. The park is still manicured, with families scattered about. Not a single item of trash is loitering anywhere, and there is a very cool drum line playing in the middle of the park. Vendors sell treats, and it really is probably the nicest area for kids who love a good playground, to feed ducks, and for a picnic. I always enjoy my time here. Lots of shade, and smiling faces. Not a single person here isn't loving the place. You can't find a more serene park in the ATX. read more

Great farmers market! It's small (as farmers markets should be) on a small lake but there are a wide variety of vendors. I tried polish pierogi's for the first time after seeing the long line of people waiting for their orders. There's an area right behind the market where you can sit and eat over looking the lake. There were french pastries, farmhouse eggs, soy candles, beef jerky, organic veggies, dog treats, a seafood stand, spices, you name it! This is definitely a must for anyone looking to enjoy a nice saturday or Sunday morning with good food, great products, and live music. read more
