I heard about another game, The Last Of Us and though that sounded like something I could get into now that I have an LA Noire-shaped-void in my life. Graeme steered us here while at the Fort to "have a look" at the games which inevitably led to a purchase. They have a second-hand/pre-owned section where you might be able to pick up a sweet deal on the game you're looking for - we picked it up for £17.99 whereas it's on Amazon for £22 new. We also grabbed a copy of Heavy Rain, a game I've not heard of but he assures me that I'll like. Service was helpful and friendly, with some light banter thrown in. I didn't look around too much as I was pretty overwhelmed by the section of Lego PS3 titles, but they also sell some cute toys and stuff here too which is a great addition to any gamer guy/gal's Christmas stocking.

Pryce's hits that spot with my family. They sell some 2nd hand stuff which is always great value and high end quality. Their window is small and old fashioned, as is the shop itself inside. I had my Grandmother's engagement ring which she left me in her Will changed to my taste, from gold to white gold and set on a wider band as a 21st birthday present. It is gorgeous and something that I'll treasure forever, made with care and consideration by the small family team of jewellers here. Also sells baby and wedding gifts, and does clock and watch repairs.

They also have a lottery machine on the ground floor which I often use as am nipping in for a paper anyway. You can also sign up to the website and you will be emailed money off vouchers. I have used these on numerous occasions in Airdrie branch without ny problem.

It's one of those old fashioned ironmongers - if you remember the sorely missed Crockett's in Glasgow, this is a smaller version, but essentially the same theory. If you can use it in the house, on the house, above the house, under the house or near the house, then Jacks will have it. The price for this mish mash of usefullness is that some things will be more expensive than, say, Homebase, which doesn't exist in Lanark any more - Jacks was here before them, and is here after them. Three or four times this past month I've needed something and the phrase "Aye, Jacks will have it" was the first thing said to me. I went in today and sure enough, got everything I needed. There's something great about just wandering around these kinds of places, and discovering things you never knew you wanted, probably didn't need, but you end up with three of them anyway. That's Jacks... and nobody in Lanark would change it.

It's one of those shops that's actually surprising to find, a small local business where the staff are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable all in the right quantities. This is the place to go locally for all manner of hardware items, fireplaces, tools, mouse traps, axes, scythes and all other weird bits and bobs. They also sell homeware items and ornamental things, the range and the service that this shop provides just can't be touched by somewhere like B & Q or Homebase.
