His heart was broken all summer long and beyond. BCCHS 2010 - 2015 My polite, shy child w mod Tourettes Syndrome w IEP Individual Education Plan all 4 yrs was basically dismissed emotionally and mentally by counselors, admins, some teachers re his 'IEP Learning Plan Accomodations' ie extra time for assignments, exams, extra individual attention for same etc all spelled out signed and agreed to by all teachers counselors vice principal psychologist special ed staff etc every single semester all four years at our IEP meetings. I attended every single mtg, every single semester. I'm a retired elementary teacher myself and am well aware of my Student w Disabilities' rights. They were denying these rights in actual practice on a day-to-day class-by-class basis. They crossed all their tees and dotted all their I s to get the money from the govt. $$$$$ Extra for STUDENTS W DISABILITIES paid. When I would inquire a various staff members including teachers counselors and vps over the four years I was given a run around and treated like I was intruding on, or asking too much of them. In 12th grade we had a horrific car accident in which we both were on doctor's orders recovering at home, for a week and a half. Although I had informed w doctors note w reason for extended absences, the female VP waited for revenge on my child and me, until a month before graduation. She crushed my sweet, kind and friendly teenager's hopes, spirit and heart, and my heart too. Btw I attended Birmingham's #1 rival Taft High School, in Woodland Hills, CA Class of 1980 when many of my friends attended Birmingham. Then both are high schools were envied, fantastic 10 /10 A+ schools. Our families lived in the area Tarzana Encino to attend these fantastic schools nowadays those same homes have their children in private schools because Birmingham especially is such a failure. Read the stats yourself. That's why charter schools are not necessarily a good thing and definitely not usually superior. Also, that's why the Billions Tax $$$$$ Department Of Education must be eliminated. I believe this vengeful abusive disgusting VP action was definitely racially motivated. Birmingham is now only 4% white, 86% Hispanic, the VP was Hispanic and we are white.

Coming from an outside perspective, anyone who knows me personally knows I admire teachers and abhor bureaucracy. Maybe I will catch some flack, who knows, however I do know that if it was not for one teacher or maybe two in my life believing in my potential when no others did, I would have been in a much different place today. What the general public fails to realize is that it's not the students that are failing, but the system is failing them since most of these kids families are failing them, too. The idyllic era most adults, boomers and older generation grew up in no longer exists today, perhaps because of the choices those generations made, who knows. Subject to debate. Without teachers with dedication and commitment, many of these students would be lost. Some teachers see gossipers, I see public relations candidates, others see taggers, I see drafters, designers and artists, some see cheaters on computer tests, I see software testers. The teachers do their best to make sure the students learn the material and most importantly that they understand the material. The teachers are there not just for educational presupposes but they really do care about their student and want to see them succeed, they are willing to stay after class and talk to a student about anything they need help with whether that be a school thing or not, they are there to make sure that their students are in the right mind set to keep in the right track for them to succeed. Their building is not built to be a school but some how they have made accommodation and made some what functional for it to be a school. The first thing you see when you walk in is their classroom that is the heart of the school. To your left is the main office and to your right is the hallway into the school. The hallways are a little small for the size of their student body. The over view of the school is too small buildings with orange an blue floors. When you first walk in to the building it has a very unique smell because every classroom has their own smell. This is because almost every teacher has their own classroom. For example two tears ago a teacher there had a glade plug in that smelled like a man colon. Then the hallway started to smell like that and over time it started to clash with other scents which gives the whole school its own scent. My only complaint about this school is their lunch food. They don't make the lunch food there, they have someone cater. Something are really good, the flavors are amazing for example, they used to have a chicken tostada salad that was amazing. The tostada was nice and chunky, and the beans had just the right amount of salt and the chicken was well made. But then they have lunch like their spaghetti and meat sauce. That was one of the lunches I could not stand when i was at this school. The pasta and the meat sauce had no flavor to it. It tasted as if it had no salt or any kind of flavor in it. Other than just this complaint , they are a great school. If you are looking for a school that holds their students to a high standard and is going to help them have a bright future please check this school out they will not disappoint.

Valley Waldorf is a tiny school. It has only a few teachers and few students, but it has so much…read morejoy. I heard that it was a large and thriving school before the pandemic and it is now growing, but organically. But currently, the classroom size is about 6 or 8 kids in my son's class, it has room to grow. The timbre of the theory of the school is to develop the child with wonder, curiosity, desire, and the confidence to learn and create, and then they could pursue the facts to learn. In this world of technology changing everything exponentially, some educators wonder if they should drill the children with facts and figures when computers will be providing all of that. These educators seem to think that the children who will succeed in the future are those who think and create. My son likes this school. He was recently diagnosed with ADHD, and the instructors are continuously learning and growing to work with him. And the biggest thing they seem to be teaching are social skills. This school currently runs from pre-k to 5th, and they are in talks about going up to 6th grade.
