There is information both in English and Norwegian, and kids love it because it is interactive with instruments, laser guns and touch screens! Adults love it because of the music, and the reminiscing! Absolutely worth stopping by if you have the time.

Luckily when we went it wasn't so busy. We decided to walk around a little and there is a hallway that leads to this little eating spot. This place looked like it was torn right out of the sweetest little bookshop fairytale. It looks like beauty and the beast library pretty much. Just more of a vintage feel to it. And then we found this tiny nook big enough for two people to eat at. It was right on the water. I couldn't stop smiling when I was here. I got the corn and jalapeño soup. It was just the most perfect thing on this cold day. We had a warm soup. Some blankets. A view of the river and houses and a crisp beer. Life couldn't be better.

Reading the name, I can assure you that you are expecting something different than what this museum…read moreactually displays. Sure, it was a palace at one point, but there isn't much left that would make you think it was. This is not a bad thing at all, as it is replaced with something just as great: a museum of the cathedral and the palace grounds. The ground floor of the museum is all about the cathedral. It has a slew of busts, statues, and gargoyles recovered from the cathedral during excavations. They are very beautiful and are incredibly old. Several of them date back to 1270-1300, which is always really cool to see. Upstairs is a small area dedicated to more about the cathedral and religious artifacts. There is a display of numerous models of the cathedral through time, which I liked. You could see its growth, downsize, and then growth again, to what it is today. There was also a display of colorized black-and-white pictures of the architects and workers who worked to renovate the cathedral. There were a lot of cool things about the pictures, and very interesting to see the pride many of them had in their reconstructions. Downstairs, however, is the big event. This area has artifacts from the archbishop, and the previously existing buildings on the site. There are coins from Holland and Germany (from trade), manuscripts, a broken archbishop staff, combs, buttons... I could go on and on about the stuff here. It covers an enormous area and is cool. You can spend a very sizable amount of time here, so be careful. Another cool thing about this area is that you can see the ruins of the castle, and later a mint. Only the bare foundations and the floor are remaining, but it was cool to see.

The museum takes you through a historical tour, complete with original sculptures and elements from Nidarosdomen (prior to the fire and restoration). The most magical part was a viewing of the crown jewels, robes, and all sorts of gorgeous royal fashion! I'm not kidding, kids. If you're a fan of Disney princess movies, go see Nidaros and then stop by the Archbishop's Palace.

It stung a little to pay the entrance fee to begin with - mainly because I believe churches should be accessible to all - but then to "double dip" and ask for yet another payment to see certain areas seemed over the top. During my trip planning, I saw that there was a cathedral there. I thought that was interesting,…read morebut I wasn't expecting much, as Trondheim didn't strike me as a place where there would be such an enormous cathedral. I was very wrong. The cathedral is a giant figure in Trondheim. Walk within any distance of it, and you cannot avoid it. It is always there, and ever-present. Moving closer, you can understand how large it really is. Although the city is small, this cathedral is like one you might find in a much larger city, like Paris or somewhere similar. Walking in, you aren't immediately exposed to the size of the cathedral. You exit slightly on the side, so you don't get a great look down the cathedral- at least at first. Walking along, you get to see some incredible stained glass windows. Beautiful, but also surprisingly sophisticated. Unlike many others, these are made up of much smaller pieces of glass. The result of this is windows with much more color and detail. The alters are on the simpler side, but that doesn't mean they are ugly. Many of them have more beautiful glass windows, although smaller than the others, and with beautiful white statues. Although the main altar is simpler, the rest of the cathedral is not. Soaring stone columns with arches upon arches upon arches, and beautiful indoor lighting. This made great for pictures, and a great opportunity to experience the beauty. I'd spend at least 30 minutes in here looking around. Sure, the entry ticket might be a little expensive, but it is worth it. You not only get to see the beautiful cathedral, but also help fund restoration and church matters.
