What a lovely park. You don't even feel like your in the city. We loaded up the kayaks and headed out onto the lake. Nice dock to help get in and out. Lily pads galore. Nice clear water. We were the only people on the lake for hours. We pack sandwiches and ate in the lake. Nice wild flower fields. We could hear horses on the trails. They also have bike paths and a dog park. Bathrooms were very clean. And picnic tables. I would totally come back here. Also fishing was great! We just caught and released. read more

Want to hike in a forest-like setting with lots of hills? Go here! During the pandemic, I've enjoyed hiking. This park is pretty similar to Lebanon Hills, but it has more elevation and seems more vast. The unpaved trails are wide and there's plenty of room to social distance. The trail map is available to download at home. Some of the trails were closed in early May. I can't wait to go back in later months, to explore all the trails. There were some birds, and more will come. Plenty of wildflowers. Wild strawberry plants, too! This is a gem in the Twin Cities. read more

Such a nice area for:hiking, walking, biking trails, skiing, snowshoeing, enclosed dog park, and it even has a horseback riding trails (horses not included). It has many trails that you can chose from which is why I like it most. And don't forget to check out the amazing colors come fall time! read more

I consider this more of a heavily wooded nature hike with trails that aren't manicured but, I enjoyed that aspect of it. We parked on the side of a road and walked into the woods being that my boyfriend knew where he was going. We entered into the woods on what definitely wasn't a trail so to speak and then ended up coming out into a field and finally ending in a place where there was a picnic table with a definitely carved path. There is plenty of wildlife on this trail and apparently people hunt for chicken of the woods mushrooms here. I was butterflies, cattails, streams, deer and loved watching the breeze blow over the fields. It was peaceful and I was glad to sit and enjoy it while letting the daily stress melt away. read more

Why did I wait so long to return? Only a review of the hiking trails, the thought ROLLER COASTER FOR YOUR LEGS! comes to mind. That being said, I was told these trails were a challenge. Yes, that's definitely correct. I'm not one of those super endurance runners, however I can generally hold my own on the trails. I've been here a handful of times now and each time I'm pushed. Describing the layout, it's managed by the Three Rivers Park District, so one can figure ahead of time (or assume) that it's well taken care of. The trails are groomed by what appears to be off-road 4 wheelers with some wide areas where a truck likely took over. Occasionally there are spots where trucks obviously travel through for maintaining the area, however that seems minimal. If you like it narrow and don't mind a few road apples, run on the horse trails. Typically they are shared with the hikers anyway. Another huge positive about this park other than sounds of nature; the abundant canopies created by trees; and the lack of gym rats, is it is teeming with dragonflies. What that means, for those scratching your heads questioning why that matters, is less mosquitos. Dragonflies eat mosquitos and don't concern themselves with humans. Lest I forget, there are mountain/trail bike trails too. They don't intersect with the hiking trails, I think, which is massively great! read more

The hiking trails here are not good. They are more like abandoned roads that have some cow paths but prepare to spend half the time in knee deep grass (ticks anyone?). Once you are in the woods they are fine but a huge loop was closed when we were there. Dogs are not allowed - so party foul big time right there. We will not be back. read more

Murphy-Hanrehan is a rare jewel, but only if you have the right expectations. If you are looking for a city park, you will be disappointed, and that is why we LOVE it! Murphy is for those of us who crave a place to put boots on miles of unpaved trails, to get out of the view of homes, to experience wildlife, and savor meadows, wetlands, lakes and forests in one park. It is a huge multi-use park, so choose your entrance wisely. Some trails are for mountain bikes which do not mix well with dogs or hikers, so owners of leashed dogs should choose other segments. Horses and dog owners can share some trails, but some are horses welcome and dog-free to give a space for horses that might need separation. If you want a park intentionally underdeveloped for that State Park hiking experience without the crowds, this is hard to beat! (Please pack out trash and leash all dogs on trails out of the dog park to keep it a paradise for its many fans!) read more

My husband and I are on a self-imposed challenge to go on at least one hike per week for the entire summer and as far into the fall as the weather will allow. Tonight was our third hike since beginning the challenge. We thought the trail was interesting with a nice variety of scenery. however, the trail didn't seem to be very well-maintained in a few areas. There were trees down in several areas and also the grass on the trail was very long in some places. If you don't grab a map at the trailhead and take it with you, the trail can be very confusing as there are numbered posts but no maps along the trail to tell you where you are. They were also several sections of the trail that were closed. It was nice that there are restrooms (actually just a stool with hand sanitizer nearby in a building). There is also a dog park in the same place if you want to take your dogs for a run, but know that dogs are not allowed on the walking trail. read more

Let's call this the park that could be so much more. They have an off leash dog park that you must have to pay through a parking kiosk. I was a little confused so I asked some mountain bikers if you need to pay to park. The answer no. I sat down to eat some Chinese take out with my dog. There were only 3 picnic tables. Done eating and glad there was garbage cans and recycling. Ready to walk. Wait a minute, dog signs with diagonal lines through them. What the..No dogs allowed on hiking trails! We walk across road to mountain bike trails, no dogs allowed either. This park caters to mountain bikers, people who hike without dogs, and people who pay to use off leash dog park. We decide to leave and go to Cleary Park around 2 miles away. I probably won't ever return but am giving information about park. read more

Nice walk for me and the wife. Lots of wildlife and the fellow hikers/bikers were kind. Would go back.

What a great park to hike through. You will see a lot of birds and wildlife, nature enthusiasts will love this park. Many trails are shared with horses making for an enjoyable hike, but you will need to be careful where you step. read more
