Not even a decade old, Musas is a fairly new museum in Hermosillo. I've been visiting the museum ever since it opened several years ago and even in the beginning I realized it never looked quite finished: unfinished construction, bad paint and plaster jobs, inaccessible areas, etc. That's always struck me as odd, that for all the spectacle and funding that was put into this museum of the state of Sonora, they seem unable to "finish" or upkeep it well. Last time I visited, I noticed some faulty light fixtures. When we were there, we also noticed one of the large glass entrance doors was completely shattered, so that adds to the sense of General disrepair. Also, the space is large and beautiful but there are only 2-3 exhibits available at any given time, too many closed off areas. Anyway, on to the substance: they have had some excellent exhibits for Sonora, I cannot complain about that? And I'm sure glad it exists in a city like Hermosillo. However, another downside is that the staff seem unable to tell you what's coming next. Once I called to find out what exhibits would go up the following month and they said they didn't know, as if there wasn't a calendar. They aren't great at up-keeping the website either. With just a little more attention to detail, this place could be an amazing monument in the state of Sonora. read more
