When we first arrived at the cafe, I was overwhelmed by the number of people and I hate playing the waiting game of getting to the counter and what not. But boy my first impression was quickly changed. My friends and I wanted to try a lot so we all split things. We got a large jamon platter (3 different kinds of meat), a seafood & chicken paella, a tortilla, and some €.90 cervezas! The jamon platter was mind blowing. One was very jerky, one had a kick, and one was just very savory and perfect. Our waiter (or helper really) GAVE US THE WHOLE PACKAGE. He ended up serving us some extra so we could try some more things. He was extremely sweet and funny that we ended up taking a picture with him because he was so cool. Good place to buy meat and a sandwich, but a bit touristy. There are a lot of other good places to buy Jamón in Madrid, for the same price or cheaper and it is sometimes tastier. Unlike many other tapa places in Madrid, their bocadillos are GINORMOUS! Hubby didn't realize how big the croissant bocadillos were, and ordered 4! We initially tried this place out of convenience--b/c we needed a quick breakfast & it was literally around the corner from our hotel--but ended up loving it as a reliable "cheap eats" option (& went back a 2nd time). The bocadillo de jamon was only about 3 euro, and the meat super soft & tasty!! The bread was also very good--crispy outside but nice & soft inside--probably b/c they have an in-house bakery as well. Some people might not care for the "chain-store" status--it seemed like there were 10 locations within walking distance of Puerta del Sol alone!--but every time we passed by, this location was always packed with a combination of (what seemed to be) tourists & locals, and everyone seemed quite happy with their food. read more

We walked by Museo del Jamon and noticed that it was PACKED. We were intrigued by the 1€ menu that had a bunch of Bocadillo and drinks. The bar that wrapped all around the restaurant was completely we full. We found a spot at the bar and squeezed on in. We ordered 2 bocadillos, expecting tiny sandwiches. We received 2 huge sandwiches full with meat and we thought they were the regular sized. We ordered a croissant sandwich (1.50€ ) and again, it was huge. Husband had a beer, I had sangria. Both great. You cannot beat the 1€ bocadillo and drinks. 1.5€ for croissant with ham/cheese. The bar area is crazy, but worth it! The total, for 3 sandwiches and 3 drinks was a whopping 8€ !!!!!! This place sort of caters to the tourists based on location, but I will be honest, its not a bad option if you want a cheap bite to eat. As if you're American traveling in Europe eating can be a bit pricey. For a quick bit and not much in the way of frills this is a solid option. They of course have ham since it is called the museum of ham. I'd recommend just going to the bar and dining there. Its simple, quick, and cheap. Super cheap foods that all the locals frequent. They have Jamon from €12 per kg up to €50 per kg. the sandwiches (bocadillos) are incredibly cheap as low as €1! The bread on both sandwiches was very good and they have meats and cheese of all varieties. They also serve coffee and sell large bottles of water on the cheap. No frills place to grab a bite. Can get crazy busy at peak times. We came at 11, which seemed to be a good time. You order up at the "bar" - they have pictures of all the sandwiches and menu items on display, so no problem if you don't speak Spanish. The service was super friendly (the "bartender" even took a photo of us with our sandwich, ha!). We got some basics: bocadillo de jamon iberico with queso and tomato (3.30) and a glass of orange juice (1.60). I love me a good ham sandwich (like proscuitto). This one we found on our way into Madrid late for us but they were supposed to be open later...waitress a pill, shook her head no at our first three choices... They have pix on the menu but stuffed mushrooms should not morph from an appetizer to a chopped side dish.... Maybe 2.25 but the service was off putting... First of all, I was a tourist, and my friend told me that Meseo del Jamon could be quite touristy. He still strongly suggested me to try it out since, obviously, they offer real good Jamon. I planned to visit the one beside plaza de mayor but accidentally bumped into this one on my way to the plaza. Put it in short, I had good experience here. First thing I like - This place wasn't touristy at all, locals started ordering beers in the morning along with their breakfast - all very Spanish. Downside was that I speak no Spanish (not even one word) at all and it took me a while to communicate with the staff - manageable though. Second - I had a cheese + Jamon combo plate and it was great. It was like 5ish euro and with that quality of ham&cheese, it could be easily charged $20+ in nyc. Third - the coffee was great. Since i didn't speak Spanish, I just ordered cafe con leche everywhere I went to avoid confusion. I might not be a professional coffee connoisseur, I have tried out almost all those artisan coffee places in nyc. So I guess I have a say here. I usually don't do reviews. But I later visited the other museu del Jamon (the one at plaza) and the experience was so below par. That is why I decided to write this review. read more

First off you have to understand that the prices are great. Where else in Madrid can you get a pitcher of beer and 2 large plates of meat and cheese for 9 euro! That being said having the wait staff drag a bag of garbage through the restaurant and vacuum all around while you eat leaves a lot to be desired. I came here because of their cheap prices for a quick meal. They have tons of cheap sandwiches and beer. however it is a standing room only so you have your plate on the counter. If you order a beer, they give you a free mini sandwich with your beer even if you order a meal. read more

Even though the name suggests otherwise the Museo del Jamón isn't a museum but a place to buy fine ham and grab a quick beer. The Boccadillos de Jamón (Ham-Sandwich) for 1EUR saved my life more than once and the small Beer (caña) with the complimentary tapas is also a nice during a small stop. Of course, in terms of athmosphere you can't expect much. Apart from eating there the wide selection of ham and cheese you can purchase completes the picture of a convenient place to get a small snack. read more
